Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Sasuke, the obsessive girl who kidnaps the girl
As the heavy sound of footfalls approached, Setsu stumbled and fell to the ground in panic, her breath catching in her throat. The massive black bear, its fangs bared and saliva dripping, loomed closer. It roared with savage hunger, sensing an opportunity. Setsu's heart raced as despair crept into her wide, frightened eyes.
"Am I going to die here?"
The thought echoed in her mind, accompanied by the vivid recollection of her lonely and tumultuous past. Tears filled her eyes as the bleak reality of her situation sank in. She clutched her glasses tightly, frozen in terror.
Suddenly, a commanding voice cut through the chaos:
"Rasengan!"
A figure emerged between her and the charging beast, his voice steady and resolute. Setsu barely registered what was happening as a brilliant orb of energy spun in the stranger's hand. In an instant, the black bear let out a deafening cry, its massive form flipping backward. The sheer force of the attack ripped through the beast's thick fur and muscle, leaving it lifeless on the ground.
Setsu blinked, stunned, her glasses slipping from her trembling fingers. As she fumbled to retrieve them, the figure turned toward her, his dark blue outfit familiar yet distant. When she finally slid her glasses back on, the face before her came into focus. His calm, confident expression was framed by the soft dapple of sunlight filtering through the trees.
"Are you all right?" he asked with an air of nonchalance, his gaze steady but gentle.
Setsu's breath hitched, her cheeks flushing a deep crimson. She struggled to form a coherent thought as her heart hammered in her chest. The young man standing before her, his black hair slightly tousled, exuded an unshakable sense of strength and charm. Her mind raced, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.
He spoke again, breaking the silence.
"You're a genin from the Grass Village, right? I remember seeing you during the exam."
His words pulled Setsu out of her daze. She nodded hesitantly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Y-Yes... That's right."
The memory of his piercing gaze during the exam returned to her, making her lower her head shyly. Her fingers tightened around the scroll she held, and a sudden realization dawned on her.
"Thank you... for saving me," she stammered. "If you need this scroll, please take it."
She offered it to him without hesitation, her hands trembling. It wasn't just gratitude that drove her; it was survival. She had learned long ago to gauge people and adapt to circumstances. The young man before her was clearly someone she couldn't afford to cross.
However, instead of taking the scroll, he smiled faintly and said something that left her speechless.
"I don't need the scroll. But I do need you."
Setsu froze, her mind spiraling into confusion and disbelief.
"You... You need me?" she repeated, her voice trembling.
Her face turned scarlet as the implication of his words sank in. Could it be...? Her heart raced wildly at the thought, her imagination running unchecked.
But before she could say anything further, sharp voices rang out behind her.
"Setsu! Did you really give the scroll to someone from another village? Are you betraying the Grass Village?"
Her teammates emerged from the shadows, their faces contorted with anger and distrust. The accusation stung, and Setsu turned to protest.
"No! It's not what you think!" she cried, desperation in her voice.
Her explanation was cut short by the sudden whistle of kunai slicing through the air. Setsu's eyes widened in horror as the weapons hurtled toward her.
Before she could react, the young man moved with lightning speed. He intercepted the kunai effortlessly, catching them with a precision that left her breathless. In the same motion, he tossed the scroll into the air, where it was struck and split by the incoming kunai.
The two Grass Village genin glared at him, their hostility evident.
"You destroyed our scroll!" one of them snarled.
The other hesitated, clearly uneasy. "We can't handle him. Let's retreat."
The first genin's eyes darted nervously toward Sasuke, who remained calm and composed. Without another word, the two turned to flee. However, their retreat was short-lived.
"Did I say you could leave?" the young man said coldly, forming hand seals with practiced ease. "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
A massive orb of flames erupted from his mouth, roaring toward the fleeing genin. The fireball's heat scorched the air, leaving no room for escape. The Grass Village genin screamed as they were engulfed in the fiery blast, their cries echoing through the forest.
Setsu watched in shock, her knees giving way beneath her. Her former teammates' fate left her with mixed emotions—relief for her own safety, but also guilt and sorrow. Their deaths meant there was no going back for her. Even if she returned to the Grass Village, she would be viewed as a traitor, ostracized and punished.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she struggled to process the situation. The young man, unfazed by the carnage, turned back to her. His voice was calm but firm.
"Setsu, you're from the Uzumaki clan, aren't you? Judging by your hair, that seems obvious."
Setsu nodded hesitantly, unsure of where he was going with this. He continued, his tone softening slightly.
"Your teammates abandoned you and tried to kill you. You have no place to return to. If you stay here, you'll face nothing but hardship. Come with me instead."
His words caught her off guard. "With you?" she asked, her voice barely audible.
"Yes," he said simply. "You can't continue as a ninja for now, but I'll make sure you're taken care of in Konoha."
His offer was both shocking and reassuring. Setsu's mind raced. Staying with him meant becoming a traitor in the eyes of the Grass Village, but what choice did she have? Her teammates had turned against her, and her future in the village was bleak at best.
"Why?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Why would you help me? Aren't you afraid I'll betray you?"
The young man's expression remained unwavering. "I don't fear betrayal. I see potential in you, Setsu. As long as you stay loyal to me, everything will be fine."
His confidence was infectious. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, hope flickered in her heart. She hesitated briefly before nodding.
"All right... I'll go with you, Sasuke."
A small smile played on his lips as he extended a hand to help her up. Setsu took it, her cheeks flushing once again at the contact. She felt a strange sense of security in his presence, as though no harm could reach her as long as he was by her side.
As they walked away from the clearing, Setsu glanced back at the smoldering remnants of her past. A mixture of emotions swirled within her—fear, guilt, and an odd sense of liberation. The future was uncertain, but for the first time in her life, she wasn't facing it alone.
And in the depths of her heart, a new feeling began to take root—one she couldn't yet name but was unwilling to ignore. Sasuke had not only saved her life but also offered her a chance at something she had long thought impossible: belonging.
Setsu's journey with Sasuke had just begun, and though challenges surely lay ahead, she was ready to face them. For now, she allowed herself to hope, clinging to the possibility of a brighter future in Konoha.
