Chapter 4: Why didn't you enter the University of Tokyo? Did you not want to?
The night passed slowly, and dawn brought with it a deceptive calm.
In his room, Haruno opened his eyes to the sound of his alarm. He glanced at the clock on his phone: it was 8:20 in the morning.
With a resigned sigh, he got up and began to prepare for his day at Tokyo University.
After washing his face and brushing his teeth, he remembered something: Maki was still in his apartment.
With a frown, he walked to the room where she was supposed to have slept. The door was ajar. Haruno gently pushed it open, and as he did so, he saw the mess inside.
The bed was a complete mess. The sheets and blankets he had prepared were scattered across the floor. Maki was lying face down on the mattress, wearing the same large t-shirt from the night before, which was now slightly lifted, revealing part of her abdomen.
"This girl…" Haruno sighed, trying not to stare any longer than necessary.
He walked over and lightly knocked on the door frame to call her.
"Wake up, Maki. It's eight thirty. It's time for you to do something with your life."
Maki groaned and tossed around in bed, but didn't respond.
Haruno sighed and decided to leave her for now. He had to get to his classes on time and didn't want to miss the morning train.
After a quick breakfast, he left his apartment and took the train to Tokyo University. The ride was routine, but his mind was still busy thinking about Maki. He couldn't help but wonder what he would do with her.
On campus, Haruno arrived at her class and sat down in her usual seat near the back of the classroom.
The teacher hadn't arrived yet, and the students were chatting amongst themselves as they waited.
"Haruno, good morning!"
A soft, relaxed voice brought him out of his thoughts. He turned his head and saw his classmate, Shiori Mine, walking towards him.
"Good morning, Mine," he replied with a slight smile.
Shiori was an outstanding student at the faculty. Her pale skin, straight hair, and slightly sleepy eyes gave her a calm, almost indifferent appearance. However, behind that facade was a sharp, analytical mind.
"Haruno, can I ask you something?" she said as she sat down next to him.
"Sure, tell me."
Shiori looked at him with a thoughtful expression.
"What do you think about siblings? Do you think they always get along?"
The question took him by surprise.
"Why do you ask that?" he replied, cautious.
"I'm just curious. I've recently been reading a book about sibling relationships, and I was wondering if you think it's natural for there to be rivalry or if there should always be harmony."
Haruno crossed her arms, considering her answer.
"Well, I think it depends on the siblings. Some get along and some don't. But I also think that sometimes rivalry arises because others compare them too much."
Shiori nodded slowly, as if she was pondering his words.
"That makes sense," she said. "Especially if one of the siblings is more successful than the other."
"Exactly. Comparisons can be cruel," Haruno added, her tone more somber.
Shiori stared at him, as if she wanted to say something more, but before she could continue, the teacher entered the classroom and the class began.
Meanwhile, in Haruno's apartment, Maki finally woke up.
After tossing and turning in bed for a few minutes, she got up and walked barefoot to the living room. She looked around and noticed that Haruno was no longer there.
"He left without saying anything…" she muttered to herself, a little irritated.
She headed to the kitchen and opened the cupboards in search of something to eat. She only found a packet of cookies and a bag of chips.
"Is this all he has?" she sighed.
After eating a little, she sat down on the couch, wondering what to do with her day. She didn't want to go back home and face her mother, but she couldn't stay in Haruno's apartment forever either.
However, as she stared absentmindedly out the window, an idea crossed her mind.
"Maybe I should go to college…" she thought. "If Mana could get in, there's no reason I can't."
But she immediately dismissed that thought with a sarcastic laugh.
"Me, at Tokyo University? I didn't even finish high school."
Despite her self-deprecating thoughts, something inside her was still curious about what Mana would be doing right now. Without thinking too much about it, she quickly got dressed and left the apartment, intending to explore the surroundings.
Back at university, Haruno finished her morning classes and headed to the cafeteria for lunch. As she ate, she checked her phone to make sure Maki hadn't texted her.
"I hope he didn't do anything stupid…" he muttered.
However, just as he was putting his phone away, he saw a familiar figure in the distance entering the campus.
It was Maki.
