I Level Up With In-app Purchases

Chapter 15 - Rebecca (1)

I Raise With In-app Purchases – 15

EP.14 Rebecca (1)

Several days had passed since Shine and a friend had stopped by the general store.

Saintess, who had been tailing me to see where I was headed, surprisingly hadn’t made any news since that day.

Honestly, it was unexpected.

‘Aren’t you curious about the relic?’

I had anticipated that they would barge in right away, demanding that I hand over the relic.

‘Maybe they’re not that crazy yet.’

Since Shine and her friend had left the general store, not a single customer had come in.

Only the flies buzzed annoyingly around my ears.

‘But still, Shine has played her role as a benefactor well.’

The deal with Shine had been a great help in acquiring this shop.

And just when my living expenses were barely scraping by, Shine’s purchase at the general store allowed me to overcome the problem.

However, without other sources of income besides Shine, the money I had would eventually run out.

‘Of course, I could sell new unique equipment before that happens.’

I had thrown bait to Saintess, but since she wasn’t biting, I had to think of other strategies.

What I could do here was…

“Summon one more.”

I still had two guaranteed SSR character summoning tickets.

Although the first draw was a bust, the second one could be a different story.

“I want to find another lucky spot.”

The so-called lucky spots in the game that had brought me happiness were proven to be trash through Saintess’s actions.

I decided to discard that place without any regrets.

‘But still, Saintess was too much from the very start.’

I needed to find another lucky spot, but where should I look?

Perhaps the lucky spots for drawing have also changed with the reality patch.

It seemed I would have to physically bump around to find a new one.

“An ordinary place can’t be a lucky spot.”

The bitterness of a great failure made it necessary to embark on an adventure to find another lucky spot.

If the plaza sought luck amidst the crowd, this time I decided to try for concentration in silence.

The city where the nobles reside.

They always pursued convenience and luxury that others couldn’t enjoy, and the city built around the academy was no exception to this imposition of luxury.

In other words, it meant that various facilities and parks were well-maintained.

“I didn’t know such a place existed.”

As I looked around for a lucky spot, I found quite a few decent places.

But since I was looking for a lucky spot, I examined every nook and cranny carefully.

It was because I believed that if I kept looking, I would find a place that felt just right.

‘Isn’t this a place I’ve only seen in event cutscenes?’

As I wandered around, I came across several familiar places.

They were locations I had seen in the game scenarios.

I never knew that exploring around the academy could be this enjoyable.

Memories of playing the game in the past came flooding back.

During my time as a mercenary, surviving was more important, so I never had the chance to deeply think about my past life.

It seems I was only focused on how to earn more money and how to stay safe.

“Oh! I definitely know this place,.”

Especially when I came across a location I had seen in an event cutscene, I instinctively thought, ‘This is it!’

A clear waterfall that refreshes the soul just by looking at it.

– Kwaahhhhh!!! –

It was a lucky event location that randomly appeared when completing a character scenario.

Spending a day having fun near the cascading waterfall significantly reduced a character’s stress.

And if you were lucky, you could even receive a bonus of stat growth.

‘To draw the best performance, the waterfall event was essential. That’s why I rerolled quite a few times because of it.’

There are always those who reach the top yet still aim higher.

And the waterfall event was a must-enter event to create the best of the best characters.

‘It wasn’t just about appearing; it had to come with stats, so the probability was incredibly low.’

In short, this waterfall was nothing short of a symbol of luck in the game.

And such a place, I thought, surely deserves to be considered a lucky spot.

I looked around the waterfall area and smiled contentedly.

‘No one’s here. It’s a perfectly prepared lucky spot.’

Thanks to coming at night, there was no risk of being disturbed by others.

This was exactly the feeling I had been hoping for.

Isn’t it calm, quiet, and refreshing?

There was no reason to hesitate.

There couldn’t be a place more fitting for a lucky spot than here.

‘Summon.’

I put my hands together and closed my eyes.

– Flash! –

– Rumble rumble! –

This time, it had to be good…

– Kwaang!!!! Kwaang!!!!! –

– Thud thud thud thud!!!!! –

The ground shook as the SSR character descended from the sky, riding a beam of light.

The first thing that caught my eye was the solid brown muscular S-line figure.

Next was the flamboyantly red hair, and on one side, a purple eye fiercely sparkling.

Ears adorned with a series of gold piercings, and a gold necklace around the neck, combined with the brown skin, exuded an imposing aura.

At first glance, the woman appeared to be well over 180cm tall.

With her solid brown thighs exposed, she wore an outfit reminiscent of a dancer’s costume, revealing her navel, and as the character opened her eyes, she looked around and tilted her head in confusion.

“S~up?”

“…..”

“…Why am I here?”

– Scratch scratch. –

The puzzled SSR character scratched her head as she surveyed her surroundings.

–  Jingle~ Jingle~ –

The sound of her ornaments clinking echoed with each movement she made.

After looking around and apparently not sensing anything unusual, she yawned and started walking back towards the academy.

As usual, the character treated me, the summoner, as if I didn’t exist.

Of course, given time, she would come to recognize my presence.

But I had no desire whatsoever to make a noise and draw her attention to me.

“…Rebecca.”

[Name: Rebecca (SSR)]

[Rank: S-grade]

[Skills: ]

[Stats: Power (S) Health (S) Agility (B) Magic (A) Charm (A)]

Rebecca

She’s a fusion dealer character.

A princess from a desert kingdom.

Her character carries a tragic narrative, having been forced to abandon her country as the contaminated lands eroded the desert.

Despite such a tragic past, her personality is not gloomy.

Rather, she is an ambitious character who aims to purify the contaminated lands that destroyed her kingdom and to rebuild the desert kingdom.

‘She’s a fiery lady.’

The illustration of her standing in high heels, whip in hand, over a subdued monster is particularly well-done and memorable.

‘And her performance isn’t bad either.’

When you want a party with good endurance, Rebecca pairs well with Saintess.

She’s not an extreme damage dealer, but she’s favored by many because, despite her decent damage output, she has a high health pool and doesn’t die easily.

While she may not be a mandatory character for party composition, she’s a 1.5-tier character who can be quite beneficial if well-raised.

‘…And Rebecca was definitely a teacher, right?’

Not all SSR characters are students.

While many are students, there are also characters who serve as teachers.

‘Her unique equipment was high heels.’

Fortunately, I had Rebecca’s unique equipment.

She usually wears high heels, and that doesn’t change even in battle.

“Rebecca is good enough to be considered for the lucky spot candidate pool.”

After all, isn’t this field all about relative evaluation?

The first draw might be a dud, but I think the area near the waterfall will prove to be a good lucky spot.

Fran and Rebecca.

If asked which one I prefer, naturally, I would choose the latter.

‘While Fran can easily go astray and become twisted with just a slight misstep, Rebecca will be worth her salt if her PTSD is properly addressed.’

Fran is a difficult character to handle.

It’s not so much Fran herself, but the burden comes from having to fight against the cult-like organization she’s involved with.

On the other hand, Rebecca is affiliated with the academy, and if mutual interests align, she could very well build a good relationship.

‘Especially, I can see her becoming a regular customer at the general store.’

To become a teacher at the academy, one must meet strict requirements.

They can’t just give anyone the authority to nurture children who will be responsible for the future of the world.

One might be recommended for teaching if they have significant skills and have suffered a major disability that prevents them from further action in the contaminated zones.

Or, after completing ten years of military service, aspiring teachers are gathered and selected through an examination process.

‘In the end, the minimum requirement is that only those who have risked their lives fighting for humanity in the contaminated zones can become teachers.’

In Rebecca’s case, she lost an eye while fighting in the contaminated zones.

That’s why she only has one purple eye.

Where the lost eye was, she wears a black eyepatch, and although she didn’t want to be discharged, she acquired PTSD from a severe incident and was forced to retire.

However, she is someone who dreams big, aspiring to rebuild her desert kingdom.

‘She thought she couldn’t just retire and grow old without accomplishing anything, so she came to the academy to teach students.’

It’s an academy for teaching students.

It means that the training facilities are exceptionally well-equipped.

There was no better place than the academy for rehabilitation training, and even as she taught students, she never neglected her rehabilitation exercises.

Someday, curing her PTSD and returning to the battlefield would be her life goal.

‘If she’s a teacher who earns more than a student, she’d have the purchasing power to buy unique equipment at its proper price.’

Selling her unique equipment to her, who is eager to return to the contaminated zones, would be an easy task.

She might even pay much more than what I expect.

‘In fact, Shine paid much more for the equipment I sold her than I had anticipated.’

Having worked as a soldier in the contaminated zones and now serving as a teacher at the academy, she wouldn’t be short on money.

So, I had the expectation that she might pay a bit more for the unique equipment than Shine did.
