I Became a Terminally Ill Magic Genius at the Academy

Chapter 37

Huh.

This was a picture he had witnessed many times before.

In the Alchemy class, they asked if he had any thoughts about studying seriously; now it was a club invitation.

It was nice to receive the professors’ interest and affection, but at the moment, he didn’t have much time to spare for club activities.

In the end, Yohan chose to decline.

But that didn’t mean he could just say, ‘No. I don’t like it.’

“I’m still a first-year student, and I’m worried that if I join a club recklessly, I might just be a burden to you, Professor.”

“No. That’s nonsense.”

Professor Leodvan raised both hands as if he’d heard something absurd and quickly waved them.

“Student Yohan Hart, I appreciate your consideration, but I sincerely made the suggestion because I admire your drawing skills.”

“Ah…”

He failed to politely decline.

Yohan gave an awkward smile and trailed off, and Professor Leodvan continued with a pleasant smile.

“Just by looking at your drawing, one can see how much you love art. Since you’ve already expressed how you think about art in a single drawing, don’t worry and join the club…”

“I, uh… I’ll think about it.”

Before he was forced to fill out a club application form, Yohan replied.

He didn’t know how ‘I’ll think about it’ sounded to him, but Professor Leodvan nodded as if that was sufficient.

His encouragement to join the club stopped, but the questions continued.

“There’s something I’ve been curious about since earlier.”

“Yes, Professor. Please feel free to ask.”

Yohan glanced at Professor Leodvan’s bald forehead and replied.

Professor Leodvan was unable to take his eyes off Yohan’s drawing and asked.

“Here, the back view of yourself is a bit different from how you currently look. May I ask what intention you had in drawing it this way?”

“Hmm…”

Since he couldn’t explain that it was Kang Ji-hoon and not Yohan Hart, Yohan pondered for a moment before speaking.

“I tried drawing myself from another world.”

“Because you hadn’t yet entered the academy, you’re expressing that you thought you were an adult before enrollment…”

That was absolutely not the case, but Yohan realized that if he opened his mouth to refute it here, it would only make things more troublesome, so he just kept his mouth shut.

After muttering to himself for quite a while, Professor Leodvan finally took his eyes off Yohan’s drawing after quite some time had passed.

Even then, his gaze was directed at Yohan.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such pure drawings, not magic.”

“I see.”

“To think that someone with the temperament of a true artist is being called a ‘scoundrel’…”

Professor Leodvan shook his head as if he couldn’t believe it.

At the sight of Professor Leodvan muttering, “Perhaps the world still doesn’t understand Yohan Hart,” Yohan involuntarily took a half-step backward.

———

Fortunately, Professor Leodvan didn’t bombard Yohan with any more questions.

Although his eyes were filled with lingering attachment, Yohan could only feel bewildered.

‘I mean, I did draw well, but is this something to react to so intensely?’

As Yohan looked around, he began to understand Professor Leodvan a little better.

All the students were accustomed to drawing magic circles using magic pens.

Not a single one found the act of drawing itself unfamiliar.

However…

‘They seem to have a hard time creating something original.’

All the students who were drawing wore rather distressed expressions.

‘Their compositions are all very similar.’

They were using layouts that seemed all too familiar.

Some students were drawing magic circles, others were sketching surprised faces.

In any case, these were the clichéd compositions Yohan had seen countless times when he was preparing for art school in his past life. Even the textures of their drawings were remarkably similar.

There were few who used various techniques and drew skillfully like Yohan.

While they had no hesitation in moving their pencils according to predetermined compositions and content, they seemed to constantly worry about how to draw the next line.

Among such students, it was perhaps natural that Yohan—who suddenly used two different drawing styles in one piece and effortlessly created a drawing utilizing numerous techniques—would attract attention.

‘It’s not that they lack drawing skills.’

It appeared they had focused their whole lives on drawing magic circles rather than proper illustrations.

Even Kyle, who was right next to him, was in a similar situation, which said it all.

As soon as class ended, Kyle looked at Yohan, and after releasing supressed breath, he spoke up.

“Hey, what’s going on?”

“What is?”

“Why are you so good at drawing?”

“I just draw. Whatever comes to mind.”

“It’s amazing that you can draw like that without anything predetermined.”

At Yohan’s words, Kyle replied as if he found it incredible.

He had drawn so much that he was tired of it. M

Although he had spent more time than expected to add details, that was still within Yohan’s expectations.

He tried to draw without overthinking anything.

This was the result.

Rather than transferring what’s in his mind exactly as is, he drew with his own perspective but adjusted it to fit the world’s standards, which unintentionally caught the professor’s eye.

“Professor Leodvan’s eyes are quite intense right now. Isn’t he going to ask you all sorts of questions again?”

“No way. And for now, I have somewhere to go.”

Yohan shivered slightly.

“Where?”

“The Student Council.”

“Why there…?”

“I have something to receive.”

Yohan muttered with a slight smile.

———

Yohan briskly walked, fluttering a piece of paper.

The Student Council room was not in a difficult place to find.

No, from the beginning, there was no way Yohan couldn’t find the Student Council room.

Since it was one of the frequently appearing locations in Arcana Academy.

Knock. Knock.

As he knocked on the dark wooden door,

Click.

With a small sound, the lock was released, and the door opened by itself.

This was the automatic door of this era.

“Excuse me.”

Yohan quietly stepped inside.

The first thing that caught his eye was the chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

The wooden table right beneath it.

The large sofa against one wall…

“It’s just as it is.”

It’s exactly as he had drawn it.

However, if there was something that caught his eye a bit.

“Who is it?”

“It’s Yohan Hart. I’ve come to submit an application form.”

Yohan answered without hesitation to the question of the female student who was lounging on the sofa.

She had wavy, forsythia-colored hair.

It was a face Yohan knew.

She was the person who seemed to have made a bet with Herzyn over the Dormitory Battle last time—a supporting character in Arcana Academy.

“Ah! You’re the one Violet mentioned. Nice to meet you. I’m Chloe Beatrice.”

She said that as she got up from the sofa and stretched.

The bear-shaped badge on Chloe Beatrice’s chest glinted.

Since the Student Council needed to be a fair organization, it naturally included students from various dormitories.

Violet, the Student Council President, belonged to the Golden Lion dormitory, but Chloe Beatrice was from the Cautious Iron Bear dormitory.

“Here is the outing permit application.”

“Let me see…”

As Yohan handed over the paper he was holding, Chloe nodded and took the outing permit application, skimming through it.

“Violet told me to stamp it right away if you came asking for an outing permit.”

She shrugged as she spoke.

Yohan quietly looked at Chloe.

It was something he had already discussed with Violet.

He had already talked about the Student Council providing him with an outing permit.

“But I don’t want to approve it. Or rather, I’m still thinking about it.”

“Huh?”

It seemed Chloe Beatrice had a slightly different idea.

“I’ll approve it for you, but instead, you join the Student Council starting today. Scoundrel or whatever, you seem like the talent we need right now.”

Yohan couldn’t hide his astonishment at Chloe’s words.

In the original work, Arcana Academy, Chloe was the finance manager of the student council.

She was the one who always cleaned up after the troublemaking student council and struggled with managing the finances…

“No way.”

“Hmm?”

“You’re not saying I have to pay money to join the student council, are you?”

Come on. No matter how much she worried about the budget as the finance manager, there was no way she’d do that.

Thinking that, Yohan looked at Chloe, and she subtly avoided his gaze.

“What are you talking about? Why would you pay money to join?”

“Then…”

“Our student council doesn’t charge membership fees or anything like that. We operate honorably with the support funds provided by the academy, legitimate income earned through the student council’s labor, and occasionally, donations that come to the student council.”

Her explanation was getting somewhat lengthy.

And Yohan quickly grasped the key point in Chloe’s words just now.

“Donations.”

“That’s right.”

No matter how widespread the rumors are that Yohan Hart was a scoundrel and incompetent… Still, he was the only son of the Hart family, one of the empire’s four great houses.

Given the wealth the Hart family had accumulated so far, making a donation shouldn’t be a problem.

Yohan gave a hollow laugh and looked at Chloe.

Then maybe Chloe felt embarrassed herself, cleared her throat and spoke up.

“Well, you know. Being part of the student council means you have the freedom to go out, and there are many benefits…”

“That’s enough. I’d appreciate it if you’d just approve this application as the student council president mentioned.”

Saying that, Yohan looked at Chloe, and she clicked her tongue as if disappointed.

But in the end, she moved her magic pen and wrote ‘Approved’ on Yohan’s application.

And at the same time…

“I’m back.”

The student council president, Violet, appeared.

After she glanced at Chloe and turned her gaze toward him, Yohan let out a sigh.

He finally fully grasped what was going on.

“Were you watching?”

“Huh? No, what?”

Violet quickly shook her head and replied.

But despite her answer, Yohan silently looked at Violet.

Eventually, Violet raised both her hands and spoke.

“Why are you glaring at me like that? I just thought it wouldn’t hurt to try.”

Last time, Yohan refused to join the student council on the airship, but it appeared she hadn’t given up.

Violet anticipated that Chloe would suggest he join the student council and deliberately set up this situation.

Yohan lightly shook his head.

Seeing him do that, Violet chuckled and then spoke.

“The student council does issue permits, but you still need to get an exit pass separately.”

“Yes.”

“Let’s go together. I’ll show you how to get it issued.”

Violet said as she watched Yohan receive the permit from Chloe.
