Chapter 19
Yohan slowly turned his head and looked around.
Traditionally, the freshmen assigned to the dormitories on Aaron Island were summoned to the garden in front of the dormitory buildings.
The garden was divided into four equal sections, each designed to reflect the characteristics of the respective dormitory.
Yohan was summoned to the center of that space, a large circle.
Around him were four flags, all depicting the symbol of the White Wolf Dormitory.
“Haha! Once again, it’s our dormitory!”
A large man from the White Wolf Dormitory area laughed loudly.
He waved at Yohan, who was looking around, and then turned his head to address the Golden Lion Dormitory side.
“See that, Violet? This is the White Wolf Dormitory, I’m telling you.”
The student council president, Violet Heinz responded to the large man dismissively.
“Stop making a fuss in front of the freshmen, Geron.”
Speaking in a voice more composed and refined than usual, Violet approached Yohan.
“Congratulations on officially becoming a student at Arcana Academy. I am Violet Heinz, the student council president and the representative of the Blazing Golden Lion Dormitory.”
Yohan shook the hand that she extended to him, and as they shook hands, Violet added in a quiet voice,
“Being from the Hart family, I naturally thought you’d be assigned to our dormitory. It’s a pity, but let’s get along well.”
Yohan nodded at her words.
In the original story, Yohan was assigned to the Blazing Golden Lion Dormitory.
Not just Yohan, but historically, most members of the Hart family had been assigned to the Golden Lion Dormitory.
About half of the Hart family members throughout history came from the Golden Lion Dormitory.
So it wasn’t unusual for Violet to expect Yohan to be assigned there.
‘It’s me being assigned to the White Wolf Dormitory that’s the odd part.’
He hadn’t quite figured out what had happened, but standing here in silence wouldn’t solve anything.
“Yes, thank you. I’ll visit you later.”
Yohan said quietly and released her hand.
Violet continued the introduction as if nothing was amiss.
“You’ve been assigned to the White Wolf Dormitory, and for the rest of the orientation, you can speak to Geron, the representative over there.”
“Thank you.”
Yohan briefly thanked her and then moved towards the White Wolf Dormitory area.
As soon as Yohan crossed into the White Wolf Dormitory area, Geron approached him with long strides and hugged him tightly.
“Welcome. I’m Geron. Let’s get along well.”
“Yes, I’m Yohan Hart. Pleased to meet you.”
Yohan instinctively raised his arms to push back against Geron’s grip carefully as he replied.
‘Is he really a mage?’
Just brushing against him for a moment was enough to tell that Geron’s body was packed with muscles.
Not only was he large, but all of it was muscle—quite astonishing.
When Yohan gently pushed Geron’s arm away, Geron chuckled and gestured behind him.
“We have to wait until the other freshmen arrive, so go ahead and introduce yourself to your fellow dormmates.”
“Yes. Understood.”
Yohan briefly replied to Geron, then passed by him and headed toward the back.
There were already some students standing in each dormitory area.
Including Yohan, there were only four of them.
‘I did come out pretty early.’
Still, he aimed to be the first one out, but he couldn’t achieve that.
As expected, the protagonist —Cedric, naturally, had arrived first.
He was assigned to the Blazing Golden Lion Dormitory.
There was one more familiar face assigned to a different dormitory.
Tania Orfen.
She was from the Orfen family, which was known for their spirit magic.
Like most members of the Orfen family, she was assigned to the Gentle Fawn Dormitory.
This, too, was in line with the original story, but there were differences.
‘For one, I’m in the White Wolf Dormitory.’
And the fact that Cecilia would be assigned to a dormitory later than Yohan Hart.
In the original, she was the third to finish dormitory assignment.
But now, even though Yohan had finished fourth, she still hadn’t been assigned.
Well, this was expected since Yohan had a battle with Cecilia.
However, there was one thing that made no sense at all….
“Yohan Hart, let’s get along.”
Yohan greeted the freshman assigned to the White Wolf Dormitory along with him.
He had no idea about the identity of this fellow dormmate.
Since she was assigned earlier than him meant she was in the top three, but having a character he didn’t recognize in the top ranks was baffling.
“Leila.”
He attempted to make conversation, trying to figure out if he simply didn’t remember or if she was someone he truly didn’t know.
However. she just tersely gave her name, showing no intention of engaging in a longer conversation.
‘Leila… Still doesn’t ring a bell.’
Yohan repeated her name in his mind.
Just as he was about to speak to Leila again—
“Oh, here comes another one.”
Geron’s voice echoed.
Yohan turned his head to look at the teleportation device in the center of the garden.
Flash!
A burst of light spread out, revealing a familiar face.
Cecilia Diaz.
When Yohan arrived, the White Wolf Dormitory flags were present, but now they changed in an instant.
A bear forged from steel appeared on the flag.
“Welcome to the Cautious Iron Bear Dormitory, Cecilia Diaz.”
The dormitory to which she was assigned was the Cautious Iron Bear Dormitory.
Now, every dormitory had at least one member.
As they quietly waited, one by one, the students received their dormitory assignments.
Once all the students were finally assigned…
“You all worked hard.”
Together with the faculty, Serhen made her appearance.
As expected, she hovered in the air and moved to the center of the garden before speaking.
“In the end, what matters most is your scores, right? From now on, I will announce the entrance exam results.”
As she said this, Serhen moved her hand.
When she cast her magic, words began to appear in midair.
[Individual Scores]
1st – Cedric, Blazing Golden Lion
2nd – Leila, Solitary White Wolf
3rd – Tania Orphen, Gentle Fawn
4th – Yohan Hart, Solitary White Wolf
5th – Cecilia Diaz, Iron Bear
———-
The rankings of each student’s personal scores were displayed.
As expected, Cedric was the top scorer again.
Leila, a member of the same dormitory, was second, followed by freshmen from the Empire’s four great families.
Normally, Yohan wouldn’t have been among them, so placing fourth was quite an achievement.
“Which is the top dormitory?”
“Agh! If you’re the dorm representative, at least try to act with some dignity….”
Geron shouted, and Violet frowned, placing a hand on her forehead.
Despite Geron’s impatience, Serhen simply smiled and moved her hand once more.
[Dormitory Scores]
1st – Solitary White Wolf
1st – Blazing Golden Lion
2nd – Gentle Fawn
3rd – Cautious Iron Bear
“Oh my? This time we have a tie for first place. Congratulations to both the Solitary Wolf and Blazing Lion dormitories.”
Serhen spoke with a smile.
However, not everyone was ready to accept the results.
“This is nonsense! Our dorm has way more top scorers!”
First, the Solitary Wolf Dormitory’s representative, Geron, shouted in disbelief.
He wasn’t the only one dissatisfied with the outcome.
Even Violet, who had just been telling Geron to act with dignity, now expressed her own displeasure as the representative of the Golden Lion Dormitory.
“Being tied with the White Wolves? What a disgrace.”
“… What did you just say?”
At the mention of ‘White Wolves,’ Geron froze for a moment before turning to look at Violet.
She simply shrugged nonchalantly.
“Hah. Did you forget what I’m like? If you take back that comment and agree to your dorm being ranked second, I’ll let this slide.”
“Second place? A dormitory that’s been in last place its whole life gets lucky once, manages a joint first place, and now you think you’re something special.”
Geron and Violet took a step toward each other as they spoke.
Somehow, the atmosphere was more serious than Yohan had expected.
He already knew that the academy encouraged competition among the dorms and that pride battles were fierce.
But seeing it with his own eyes was a different feeling altogether.
To be honest, he wondered why they were making such a big deal out of it.
“Sure. Their personal scores are on the line too, but still….”
He wasn’t sure it was something to get this worked up over.
Then again, it had been a thousand years since the ‘Lord’ had vanished.
Which meant that the history of Arcana Academy, founded to stop the second coming of the Lord and the dark mages, also spanned a millennium.
A thousand years of pride battles between the dormitories.
“It’s practically like a match between Korea and Japan.”
Thinking about it that way, Geron and Violet’s behavior made sense.
“So what should we do? Settle it with a dormitory battle to decide first place?”
“Hah. Are you sure about that? You’ll only be more humiliated if you lose. If you’d just admit you’re second….”
“Back out if you’re scared.”
Geron threw out the words nonchalantly.
For a moment, a brief silence ensued.
Then.
“Principal. I officially request a dormitory battle against the White Wolf Dormitory.”
Violet looked toward Serhen and spoke.
Serhen had been watching the situation with interest, and at the mention of a dormitory battle, she smiled slightly.
“Hmm. What shall we do?”
She muttered as she glanced around at the students.
Serhen’s gaze lingered on Yohan for a moment before moving on.
“Alright. Let’s do this.”
Serhen clapped her hands once and continued speaking.
“We’ll have the top students from each dormitory engage in a magic duel.”
Geron and Violet both nodded, showing no objections to her suggestion.
Yohan was casually watching the situation when he suddenly froze. He turned his head to look at the text still hovering in the air.
Individual Score: 4th place – Yohan Hart.
In the White Wolf Dormitory, he was effectively in 2nd place.
‘Wait. If they’re selecting multiple representatives….’
“We’ll proceed with a 3-on-3 match.”
Damn it.
It appeared like Yohan would be included in this dormitory battle.
And as expected.
“From the Golden Lion Dormitory, Cedric, Helena, and Haverto will represent the freshmen.”
Serhen glanced over the individual score rankings and began selecting dormitory representatives based on their positions.
“From the White Wolf Dormitory, Leila, Yohan, and Kyle will be the freshmen representatives.”
He looked at each of the students chosen as representatives.
Yohan awkwardly smiled as he met Serhen’s gaze once again.
“The freshmen must be tired, so the time and date of the dormitory battle will be decided by the representatives of each dormitory. For now, let’s proceed with room assignments for the freshmen.”
Serhen said with a bright smile.
Well….
And so, Yohan began his first day at Arcana Academy as a member of the White Wolf Dormitory.
