I Became a Mythical Knight King

Chapter 103: Deployment (3)

[Legion Management]

Hero Units

Regular Units

“Oh, there’s now a distinction between the units?”
Previously, there was only one legion management tab.

At René’s observation, Yoo Seong nodded.
“Yeah, except for the Ballista Unit, all the pre-existing units belong to the Hero Units.”

Hero Units and Regular Units.

Jillian, pondering the straightforward naming, soon turned back to Yoo Seong and asked,
“Is it based on whether knights are present?”

“Yes, knights—specifically, units containing hero-level knights like Kate and Vanadain are considered Hero Units. Units with ordinary knights, like Rando, belong to the Regular Units.”

“Hero-level… That makes sense.”

The knights of Camelot, including Kate and Vanadain, were the Knights of the Round Table, whose strength and memories were sealed.

They were the ones who, alongside King Arthur, had shaped the Age of Man, so the title “hero” wasn’t an overstatement.

Of course, Rando, who led the Ballista Unit, was also a knight of Camelot and a skilled warrior. It did feel a bit unfair to label some as heroes and others as ordinary, but there wasn’t much choice in the matter.

In the history of mankind, only other members of the Round Table could compare to the Knights of the Round Table.

After hearing Yoo Seong’s explanation, René seemed to quickly calculate something in her head and tilted her head as she asked,
“Successor, does the separation into categories mean the number of Regular Units has significantly increased?”

If it was still just the Ballista Unit, there wouldn’t have been a need to create a new category.

At René’s remark, Yoo Seong smiled and replied,
“Exactly. The new unit types don’t allow the inclusion of hero-level knights.”

In truth, “hero-level knights” ultimately referred to the Knights of the Round Table.

Understanding this, René nodded again.

“That makes sense. Since there’s no Knight of the Round Table commanding the Ballista Unit, someone like Rando, an ordinary knight… Oh, I feel like that sounds disparaging, but you know that’s not my intent, right?”

Yoo Seong and Jillian responded with awkward smiles, making René cough to cover her embarrassment before continuing.
“Anyway, it’s probably a similar concept to adding an ordinary knight like Rando to the Ballista Unit, right?”

“That’s likely the case.”

After all, it wasn’t feasible to assign a Knight of the Round Table to every unit.

However, Yoo Seong was considering another possibility.

‘Excluding King Arthur, there are twelve Knights of the Round Table. There’s no guarantee all their souls remain.’

So far, he had directly encountered only Vanadain—whose memories revealed him to be Tristan, the divine archer of the Round Table. Based on what he’d gathered and the scenery beyond Yoo Seong Fortress, he could easily speculate.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table had perished after a fierce battle.

Could their souls all have survived to be passed down to this day?

It was only a hypothesis.

Perhaps the other knights, aside from Vanadain and Diana, met fates Yoo Seong hadn’t anticipated.

Yet, it was a hunch.

‘Sir Kay.’

A Knight of the Round Table.

A figure from the past who had imparted various lessons to Yoo Seong before departing.

Yoo Seong liked him.

He wanted to meet him again but for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling it wouldn’t be possible.

If it was through past memories or records, perhaps, but to meet him whole and complete seemed increasingly unattainable.

It was just a gut feeling.

Yet, because of that, even without any solid evidence, he couldn’t dismiss it.

‘So far, I’ve gathered six knights.’

How many more would join from here was anyone’s guess.

Taking a deep breath to clear his thoughts, Yoo Seong looked back at René and Jillian.

Noticing Yoo Seong deep in thought, René and Jillian exchanged glances. Jillian chuckled lightly before asking,
“Successor, what’s the new unit type this time?”

“Archer Cavalry.”

Yoo Seong immediately responded, and with a flick of his fingers, the newly added Archer Cavalry appeared before them.

“Ah, now I understand why there are no heroes in this unit. While the Knights of the Round Table were proficient with multiple weapons, the only one who primarily used a bow was Tristan.”

Tristan, the divine archer of the Round Table.

Upon saying his name, René unconsciously smiled.

The thought of a figure she’d read about in fairy tales, folklore, and history books since childhood now standing by her side filled her with delight and amusement.

‘And Vanadain, too.’

A gruff elf knight who often wore a stern expression and grumbled frequently but was undeniably kind.

It wasn’t just Vanadain.

Kate, Hector, Roland, and even Morgan—they were all Knights of the Round Table.

Though depicted as perfect beings in history, legends, and myths, they were ultimately human.

They laughed, cried, and felt emotions just like anyone else.

‘If Vanadain is Tristan, then who are the others?’

She had strong suspicions about a few of them but was completely clueless about others.

As René pondered over Kate, Morgan, and the others with a faint smile, Yoo Seong and Jillian exchanged knowing glances and chuckled.

After a few seconds, René snapped out of her musings, startled. Not wanting to embarrass her, Yoo Seong turned to Jillian and spoke.

“As I mentioned earlier, several Regular Units can now be added.”

René tilted her head at Yoo Seong’s words but quickly understood after seeing the information displayed.

[Infantry]
[Archers]
[Heavy Infantry]
[Heavy Cavalry]

These weren’t elite infantry or royal guards—just standard infantry.

Even the Heavy Infantry didn’t look like the formidable warriors of Hector’s unit but rather ordinary soldiers clad in heavy armor.

“Regular Units are simpler, with lower individual combat power but significantly larger numbers.”

For example, the Infantry Unit started with a staggering 100 members, making them numerically impressive.

“Regular Units can be attached to related Hero Units. Once attached, they are led by the hero, enhancing their combat capabilities.”

With a few finger movements, Yoo Seong demonstrated two Infantry Units joining Kate’s royal guards.

“Wow…Over 200 infantry alone. It really feels like the scale is growing.”

Though it was merely a simulation, if three Infantry Units were created, nearly 400 infantry soldiers could be deployed simultaneously.

‘If I recall them and summon new units, the usable manpower would increase even further.’

While only hundreds could be deployed at a time, the total potential force could easily surpass a thousand, fundamentally altering combat strategies.

“Successor, do you have enough points for this?”

“Unfortunately, no. I’ve already allocated some to urgent areas like the Magic Tower, so I can’t increase everything at once.”

Considering the addition of Archer Cavalry, Yoo Seong only had enough points to add one Regular Unit for now.+

Maintaining, repairing, and upgrading existing units also required points, making it impossible to dedicate everything to new units.

“So for now, I plan to focus on expanding the Heavy Cavalry.”

“Understandable. Because infantry are already abundant in the allied forces?”

“Exactly. The only notable cavalry is Juliet’s Baltois Cavalry.”

The Western Lords’ Allied Forces consisted of 8,000 infantry, 500 cavalry, and about 1,000 logistics and support troops.

While 500 cavalry in a force of 10,000 wasn’t insignificant, it was relatively small, making cavalry the obvious choice for reinforcement.

“Heroes are important, but battles between soldiers can’t be ignored.”

This had been evident during the fight against Rat Lord.

While the knights had united to defeat the Rat Lord, they’d nearly suffered defeat due to the overwhelming numbers of the monster army.

To win, an army of humans was essential to counter the monsters’ forces.

“And… there’s finally a change in the warhorses.”

Both René and Jillian reacted immediately.

“Wow, really?”

“Yes, truly.”

With the addition of Pegasi and even Griffins to Yoo Seong Castle, the status of warhorses like Alphonse had grown ambiguous.

Even though René’s warhorse, Rainy, and Jillian’s, Jerome, had joined him, regular horses couldn’t compare to griffins.

But that was no longer the case.

“With the upgrade of Yoo Seong Castle, it feels like this feature has finally unlocked. All three of them can now undergo promotion.”

Just as the Light Cavalry had evolved into Pegasus Cavalry and then Griffin Units, the warhorses could now evolve as well.

“Alphonse.”

At Yoo Seong’s call, the jet-black warhorse—no, the jet-black dragon horse—appeared.

A horse with the head of a dragon.

Its previously large stature had grown even more massive, exuding overwhelming majesty by simply standing still.

And it wasn’t just for show—it could now fly.

“Wow.”

René expressed pure admiration. Alphonse grinned and snorted as if pleased with himself.

“Successor, may I try summoning mine?”

“Of course, go ahead.”

“Rainy.”

At René’s call, Rainy appeared.

A pure white horse standing next to Alphonse, who had become a dragon horse.

Unlike Alphonse, Rainy didn’t grow bigger, but… how should one put it? Rainy had transformed into something sleeker and more elegant.

Especially sensitive to magical energy, René could feel Rainy’s changes more distinctly.

An Elvensteed, a mystical being that, like fairies, was partly a spirit.

When René quietly reached out her hand, Rainy slowly approached and rubbed its head against her chest.

Even after becoming a fairy horse, Rainy’s gentle personality remained unchanged.

“Then I’ll go next.”

Excited by the previous transformations, Jillian, more energized than usual, immediately stood up and summoned her warhorse.

“Jerome.”

Jerome had originally been a gentle brown horse.

However, the new creature that appeared had an entirely different coat color, a unicorn with a horn protruding from its forehead.

With its pure white body and golden mane, it was a sight that left René in awe, and Jillian couldn’t hide her bright smile either.

“A unicorn for the Saintess! It’s absolutely perfect for you!”

As René’s excitement raised her voice, Yoo Seong nodded in agreement.

A unicorn suited Jillian remarkably well.

The sight of Jillian stroking Jerome’s mane resembled a scene from a holy painting.

“And, lastly, there’s one more.”

At Yoo Seong’s words, René and Jillian dismissed Rainy and Jerome and turned their eager gazes to him, their faces full of anticipation.

Although it seemed like they already had a rough idea of what Yoo Seong was about to say, their cheerful expressions made it clear they were enjoying the wait.

Thus, Yoo Seong didn’t prolong things unnecessarily and switched the screen on his status window.

[Time remaining for invitation recharge: 159 hours, 30 minutes, 11 seconds.]

The fourth expedition.

Smiles spread across René and Jillian’s faces.

“Good night, then.”

“Mm, you too, René. Saintess, sleep well.”

“Yes.”

“Sleep well.”

By the time the meeting at Yoo Seong Castle had ended, it was already past midnight.

Considering the hour, Yoo Seong briefly debated whether to escort them to their tents, but since they were within the safety of the military camp, it seemed excessive. He saw them off just outside their tents before returning to his own and sitting down at the table with the map, rather than lying on the cot.

However, he wasn’t planning to review the map again.

It was one of the new features of Yoo Seong Castle he had already mentioned to René and Jillian.

Closing his eyes and straightening his posture, Yoo Seong murmured the activation phrase softly, summoning the status window.

“Sword Forest.”

The Forest of Swords.

The moment he uttered the words, a familiar sensation surged through his body. Slowly opening his eyes, Yoo Seong realized he was no longer in the tent.

He was inside the training hall of the swordsmanship pavilion within Yoo Seong Castle.

A simple rectangular room with a high ceiling and wide open space, painted entirely white and devoid of windows.

He had thought Morgan, the owner of the swordsmanship pavilion, might be waiting, but fortunately—or unfortunately—that wasn’t the case.

Instead, the familiar text of the status window appeared before him.

[Welcome to the training hall.]

[You can visit the training hall once a day.]

[Please envision your sparring opponent.]

Who would he fight?

It wasn’t possible to create an opponent like the Lion King, whom he hadn’t encountered yet.

The only ones he could conjure were opponents Yoo Seong had already faced.

Thus, the choice was obvious.

Naturally, the name and face of someone came to mind.

“It’s me, as expected.”

But it wasn’t the same.

The opponent created by combining Yoo Seong’s memories and the data from the swordsmanship pavilion wasn’t the same as the one who had appeared before.

Even the continuity of memories didn’t exist.

Yet, since it was based on Yoo Seong’s recollection, it was natural for them to speak this way now.

A handsome young man with a cheerful smile.

Sir Kay, a Knight of the Round Table.

The weakest among the Round Table’s knights but simultaneously the 13th strongest man in all humanity.

He smiled once more, drawing his sword and gesturing lightly.

“Come.”

His opponent was a Knight of the Round Table.

Moreover, this time, there were no chivalry boosts to help Yoo Seong.

How long could he hold out?

It was a sparring match with an inevitable loss, but Yoo Seong smiled back and drew his sword.

He charged at the Knight of the Round Table.

Princess Elizabeth lay on her bed, sifting through documents.

As the de facto pillar of the Kingdom of Silatein, her concerns extended far beyond the immediate front lines.

The royal capital’s state.

The current affairs and movements of neighboring nations.

Domestic issues.

The world’s political climate remained precarious.

The Kingdom of Cabal went without saying, and the Five Kingdoms and the Empire were all under siege by monsters.

The Five Kingdoms and the Empire were relatively better off due to the presence of Master Knights.

After all, the Master Knights served as the ultimate defense, holding back the hordes of monsters.

However, smaller kingdoms in the eastern part of the Empire were crumbling without any means of resistance.

“Truly…an age of disaster.”

The ancient prophecy of the end times, passed down like a legend.

Muttering softly, the princess unfolded the continent’s map.

While magic existed, it was impossible to know other countries’ situations in real-time.

Perhaps, alongside the minor kingdoms, some of the Five Kingdoms were facing crises similar to—or worse than—the Kingdom of Cabal.

“Lately, it’s been nothing but bad news.”

Or was it? Perhaps not entirely.

There was at least one land where good tidings were reported.

The princess’s gaze shifted westward within her kingdom.

“The Black Knight of Lothian.”

A miraculous man who emerged in this age of calamity.

Was he truly a descendant of Camelot?

“I’m curious.”

What sort of person was he?

Was he truly a hero, as the rumors suggested?

His exotic, handsome appearance was also intriguing.

The princess chuckled briefly before putting the map away and gazing at the ceiling.

The Black Knight of Lothian.

Whether she liked it or not, fate dictated that they would meet.

What kind of relationship would they forge when they finally crossed paths?

“Well, I’ll know when the time comes.”

With that thought, the astute princess chose not to dwell on needless worries and closed her eyes for a deep sleep.

The Lion King did not sleep.

Standing still, he gazed at the night sky.

“It’s beautiful.”

The deep blue night sky filled with countless stars.

The beauty within the walls was not just the golden sunlight and warmth.

The spectacle of the stars shining above was breathtaking as well.

When he first crossed the wall and witnessed the night sky, the sea of stars had left him at a loss for words.

The Lion King stared at the night sky.

It was still beautiful.

No matter how many times he saw it, it never grew old.

But he couldn’t merely stand and gaze.

For him, indulging in beauty was nothing but a luxury.

His gaze shifted downward to the fortress where frightened and weary humans huddled together. He raised his fist.

“All troops, advance.”

“Take the fortress before us.”

The Lion King stopped gazing at the night sky.

Following the roaring charge of his beastly army, he took a step forward.
