Chapter 119: What Did You Say to Him
Chapter 119: What Did You Say to Him
“Me, no longer human… how is that even possible?”
“It can’t be! I just signed a Contract with Aier, how could it turn me into a Blood Clan member? The transformation between species can’t be that simple!”
After a couple of cold sweats, Yake meticulously thought through this rather absurd statement. Maybe Carl was just trying to intimidate him with a lie.
If he remembered correctly, aside from himself and Aier, Gaia and Ailin, Yaser and Weirafiya—they all had signed contracts with each other! And they had been at it for a much longer time than he had. Yet, he saw no signs of dragonification or phoenixification in Gaia and Yaser.
“Right now, you’re probably thinking about Gaia and Yaser, wondering why they haven’t shown any signs of mutation, right?”
Carl effortlessly saw right through Yake’s thoughts. Honestly, it was easy to guess with just a little common sense.
“Yes! I was thinking about them. If this Contract will cause mutations, why haven’t they experienced any?”
Having his thoughts laid bare, Yake decided to ditch the pretense and just be honest with Carl. At the very least, if he was going to mutate, he wanted to know exactly what that meant.
“Because the Contract Yaser and Weirafiya signed was just a standard Storage Contract. It doesn’t affect the bodies of those who signed it. As for Gaia and Ailin, the Contract they made is utterly meaningless; it’s just a piece of scrap paper.”
Carl had no trouble deducing the situations of the other two pairs.
“And what about me? What kind of Contract do I have with Aier?”
“You and Aierjisi’s Contract… that’s a Soul Contract.”
“A Soul Contract? What in the world is that? I’ve never heard of such a thing.”
Though clueless about this so-called Soul Contract, just hearing the name made Yake feel it couldn’t be anything good.
“A Soul Contract, as the name implies, involves the souls of both you and Aierjisi. Through this Contract, she shares her life with you, but it’s not a simple matter of sharing life. The true effect of this Contract is to gradually assimilate your soul with hers.”
“Assimilation?”
“Correct. To put it simply, under the influence of this Contract, you will cease to exist as Yake the human and will gradually become a part of Aierjisi.”
If that’s the case, it explains why the Adrian People wanted to capture him along with Aierjisi. Because he was part of her, a necessary sacrifice for them!
However, what really scared Yake wasn’t that; it was the notion that Carl mentioned—he would gradually become a part of Aierjisi.
He would no longer be himself; he would turn into another life…
Just thinking about it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
“Feeling scared, huh? That’s perfectly normal. Generally, living beings feel fear when faced with death. No matter how many battlefields a warrior has faced, they will inevitably feel fear when confronting death.”
Looking at Yake’s trembling legs, Carl understood him very well. After all, what he had just told him was essentially, “You are slowly dying because of the Contract, yet there’s nothing you can do about it.”
“But I hope you don’t blame her, don’t blame my daughter, Aierjisi. She doesn’t truly understand the real effects of this Contract, so I hope you won’t take your anger out on her.”
If he had the chance to teach her, he definitely wouldn’t have let her use the Soul Contract.
But unfortunately, there’s no such thing as “what if” in this world. What’s done is done, and all he could do now was to try his best to make amends.
“I’m sorry, I need some time alone to calm down…”
After learning such news, Yake really had no desire to attend some Celebration Feast. He just wanted to find a place to cool off by himself.
“That’s fine, go ahead. But remember to come back soon. If you’re not back by the time the feast starts, my daughter might come looking for you.”
Watching Yake’s retreating figure, Carl sighed, uncertain whether revealing the truth of the Contract to him was the right decision. His daughter might end up resenting him for it.
Still, Carl felt an obligation to inform Yake of the truth. It wouldn’t be fair to let him continue with the Contract while remaining completely in the dark.
“Aierjisi, didn’t I tell you to properly kneel on the floor? Why are you standing and eavesdropping on the door?”
Carl glanced at the door nearby, and even though he couldn’t see the situation inside, he could clearly sense Aierjisi’s presence hiding behind it.
“Because I feel it’s my duty to know the truth of this Contract. So I listened in, what’s the problem?”
Having been caught, Aierjisi decided to stop pretending and directly opened the door to face her father.
“It’s nothing. However, there are some things you might be better off not knowing.”
“Other matters might indeed be better left unknown, but this? I believe I should know. Also, Father, stop treating me like a child.”
Aierjisi fixed her gaze on Carl. This was related to her servant Yake; how could she not know?
“Even if you know, what can you do? The Contract has already been signed. There’s no way to stop the Contract between you and that human named Yake.”
Carl was well aware that if the Contract were to be severed, they would have to return the shared life. If that happened, the human named Yake would undoubtedly die.
Aierjisi seemed to care quite a bit about that human, so naturally, she wouldn’t allow his death. Therefore, she would not allow the Contract to be severed.
“Forget it. Father, why do you still speak so annoyingly like you did 300 years ago? I’ll go look for Yake now.”
Aierjisi shook her head; no matter how much time passed, she and her father still struggled to communicate.
What more could she do? The Contract was irreversible?
What a joke!
