Chapter 5: Murmur wants to meet the Demon God!
Murmur was busily moving her hands, her dark red horns swaying back and forth.
“♬”
In front of her was a table that reached just below her chest, and on it were piled up a bunch of orange ‘tangerines.’
The tangerines were quite large in Murmur’s small hands, so she carefully picked them up one by one and stuffed them into her uniform pockets until they were bulging.
“What is that kid… doing?”
Esme Bloodberry frowned, watching Murmur’s actions from afar.
“Hmm… Maybe she likes them?”
“Still, is there anyone who eats that many tangerines?”
“Isn’t it something demons like?”
The children behind Esme each said a word, but none of them had the right answer.
“I don’t understand! I don’t like it at all! Does eating tangerines make you good at magic? That’s not it, right?! It can’t be?!”
Esme stomped her little feet and shouted, but she couldn’t even imagine how absurd Murmur’s actions were about to become.
* * *
Meeting the ‘Demon God’ in Legend of Academy was quite difficult.
It was so difficult that the ‘CG’ of the Demon God, discovered after the game’s release, was treated as outright dummy data. It was even said to be a hint for a future DLC, so it was considered an entity that could never be encountered through normal gameplay.
Of course, the Demon God existed perfectly well. It was just that the method of meeting her was very dirty, sneaky, and ‘hidden’.
“Hmm… Did I take too many…”
The Demon God was an entity that could be met after school hours. Professor Aiaie would definitely say something later, but if I said I ran away because I was scared of the professor, what could they do to me?
In the first place, who knows what kind of things you would be subjected to in supplementary classes, it would be foolish to just participate!
I had about seven ‘tangerines’ bulging in my pockets right now. These tangerines were needed to meet the Demon God. To be honest, when I first saw this strategy, I thought it was someone with nothing to do spending a lot of effort to go fishing for people.
“Later, I found out… that the Demon God really likes tangerines.”
The strategy, which seemed like a lie, was actually written metaphorically in various books that could be read in the game. Moreover, the strategy excluding the tangerines was, in a sense, normal behavior to meet the ‘Demon God’.
But, it’s taking longer than I thought. Is it because I’m moving around like a little 5th-grade chick because of my small body?
“Hoo…”
The place I arrived at was the secret underground space of the ‘Club Room’, which is not used at all in Cosmos Academy now. There were several club rooms in the academy, and I, Murmur, could join if I wanted.
What should I say about clubs? To make an analogy to martial arts, it was like learning hidden weapons in the Sichuan Tang Clan or swordsmanship in the Huashan Sect.
Each club had its own history, and there were many places that existed as a miniature of various ‘factions’ outside the academy.
Talented wizards were taken by places like the ‘Strega’ club, educated in various things, and then, after graduating from the academy, they were scouted as a priority by a place called the ‘Tower of Wizards’.
So, in the game, ‘which club to join?’ was one of the major factors determining the ending.
“In that sense, the ‘Curse of Knowledge’ club, where I am now… must have had a great history in the past…”
The ‘Curse of Knowledge’ club is a club that has now gone bankrupt and disappeared. The fact that an amazingly splendid building has turned into a desolate ruin overflowing with bitterness could only lead one to guess at its former glory.
Anyway! The Demon God is in the basement of this club room. The way to enter the hidden secret room is simply to remove the fourth brick on the left of the sixth from the top.
─ Swish
As I pulled out the large brick, a hidden door appeared as I expected. When I opened the door with difficulty with both hands and went inside, a small garden with a warm sunlight that I couldn’t tell where it was pouring from unfolded before my eyes

[ 《Time: After school》]
─ Bouncing sounds!
In the garden were weeds growing wildly and ‘slimes’, making soft bouncy sounds as they flitted about. There were red, blue, yellow, and sky blue slimes… The colorful slimes filled the place truly.
“Hoo… I have to tidy these up.”
Meeting the demon was simple.
Originally, this garden, made for the demon, needs to be tidied thoroughly. The slimes bouncing around the grassy field need to be sorted out, all the weeds pulled out, and the puzzle game at the messy, broken altar should be completed.
And finally, place tangerines peeled perfectly onto a plate atop the altar.
“Alright…! Let’s do this! I can do it, Murmur!”
Anyway, there was no future for me if I couldn’t meet the demon.
* * *
“Yaaawn…”
The ‘Demon God’, who was lazily sprawled belly down on the throne, slowly opened her eyes to the raucous noise that tickled her ears.
“It seems my minions are being noisy yet again…”
As the Demon God rolled over on the throne, her ample bosom jiggled tantalizingly, but there was no one in this world who could witness it. She thought the commotion that had arisen was just an extension of her usual daily life.
─ Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Fwoosh!
“Go away…! Don’t eat that! Shoo! Shoo!”
But it was not. The Demon God, who had intended to nap forever in the garden, was startled by the clear sound of a ‘child’s’ voice and quickly got up.
In front of her eyes was Murmur, diligently cleaning in a sky-blue apron.
“How on earth did a descendant of Nectar get here…”
The Demon God was genuinely surprised but also noticed that the little Murmur had uprooted and organized all the weeds in the garden.
‘This little fellow… Is she cleaning this body’s garden? There’s no way the young descendants of Nectar know about this body, is there?’
To be completely honest, the Demon God was touched. A small child who seemed barely fifth-grade age was meticulously tidying her garden, unlike the arrogant demons born these days.
To the Demon God, Murmur was an incredibly polite, lively child who knew how to serve a god.
‘Ugh…! I almost got carried away and let my blood flow… let’s calm down. It’d be quite troubling to suddenly bestow a grand blessing upon such a tiny child. Yes, yes. Let’s first decide how the great and noble appearance of this body should be…’
The demon god had already made up her mind. From the moment little Murmur neatly tidied up her garden, Murmur was already ‘accepted’.
— Poof!
“Oh?”
The demon god, who was pondering what kind of entrance to make, burst into a wry smile when Murmur lifted a slime with both hands.
“Well… I guess it can’t be helped. Even if you are a descendant of Nectar, those children must look like very dangerous monsters to you.”
It was only natural. Demons born these days do not learn how to ‘coexist’ with monsters. That path was cut off a long time ago. It had long been dismissed as an old-fashioned method of dusty old-timers.
“Hmph… cha!”
Murmur took the slime she had lifted to the wettest and most watery part of the garden and placed it down. Then, with her tiny hand, she stroked the slime’s head.
“Wait here for a bit. Okay? I’ll make you a pretty house. It hurts when your mucus dries, right?”
“Huh?”
The demon god was taken aback. Before she could even think it was a misunderstanding, Murmur picked up the colorful slime siblings, one by one, in her hands and arms, and took them to a secluded spot.
After that, she didn’t care about getting mud on her hands and diligently stroked the slimes, then dug into the soil with her hands to create a space where the slimes could rub against each other and sleep.
‘She understands the slime’s pain and knows how to handle them?’
The demon god gulped.
‘That can’t be… The descendants of Nectar born these days… That can’t be. It can’t be.’
The demon god felt a joy that went beyond emotion. Murmur didn’t beat the monsters in front of her because they were ‘obstructing’ the cleaning, and took them to a damp place to build them a house.
After that, she washed her hands clean and approached the broken altar.
“This cute thing…”
Murmur tried to lift the shattered pieces of the altar that had fallen on the ground, with her tiny hands. It goes without saying, but it was not possible with Murmur’s small strength.
“Let’s see how far you will move this body. Yes, yes… Good!”
The demon god couldn’t hold back and ended up grabbing the piece that Murmur was struggling with and lifted it.
“Oh… Did this kid read some old grimoire or something? She should be enjoying playing at that age.”
The demon god smiled contentedly and took the piece to the location where Murmur wanted to move it. The location was accurate. Murmur had a perfect memory of what the ‘altar’ looked like and moved the broken parts one by one.
“I can’t do this… I need to show my noble and grand appearance for this cute kid… I…”
The demon god felt a slight dizziness and wiped her forehead, then looked down at Murmur with a surprised expression. This little demon, covered in dirt, had suddenly washed her hands and sat in front of the altar and began to peel a ‘tangerine’.
“… …”
The demon god, who had been smiling, was speechless and stared blankly at the tiny Mallang Mallang.
Murmur peeled the tangerine delicately with her small, seemingly frail hands. Then, she took the white threads with her fingers and carefully separated them one by one.
The demon god could recall a memory she had left in her heart a long time ago.
“Hmm… It’s harder than I thought… But the demon god will like it…”
Murmur kept moving her tiny hands without rest. She desperately wanted to meet the demon god. She knew well how harsh and dangerous the coming future would be.
So, even with her hands swollen red, she kept peeling the tangerine. She wanted to meet the demon god. She wanted the demon god to be happy. With that in mind, she peeled the tangerine and carefully dropped the white threads.
One tangerine.
Two tangerines.
Three tangerines.
“This kid…”
The demon god smiled loosely as she watched the tangerines being placed one by one on the white plate. The demon god, who looked like a mother looking at her daughter with maternal love, silently watched her adorable ‘disciple’ prepare offerings.
“Descendant of Nectar. Do you know this? A long time ago, I really hated eating such fruits. All I desired was bright red blood and fresh flesh.”
Murmur placed the fourth tangerine.
“There was a very audacious one who offered tangerines to me. That one carefully peeled the fruit and presented it as a precious item for me…”
Murmur placed the fifth and final tangerine.
The Demon God made up her mind. She was moved and felt joy.
Murmur was not a fool who, enchanted by the name of the Demon God, would bring a cartload of evil-filled grimoires or offer a pure maiden as a living sacrifice.
This little girl, the soft and cute girl in front of her, was ready to serve the god.
“Descendant of Nectar.”
The Demon God gave up her grand and flamboyant entrance, grabbed a tangerine from the altar with her hand, smiled, and pushed a piece into her mouth.
“Demon God… maam?”
“Why are you so surprised? The great and noble being is now before you. Worship and revere.”
The Demon God, emitting a purple light, appeared before Murmur, holding a tangerine in her right hand and embracing Murmur with her left hand, placing her on her thigh.
“Descendant of Nectar, answer me.”
The Demon God’s heart pounded. For a very long time, no one had answered the question she was about to ask.
“Did you come here of your own free will? Or were you sent?”
Murmur swallowed and opened her small mouth.
“I came here 75% of my own free will and 65% out of compulsion, Demon God Armonia.”
The Demon God, looking at Murmur who gave an unexpected answer, ended up with a nosebleed.
