When the small paper figure before Itachi Uchiha completely vanished, Kaito Uchiha, who was conversing with Mikoto, also received the message returned from that fragment of consciousness.
The progress there was smooth, pleasing Kaito immensely.
The special scale powder he had given Itachi in the little bottle came from Yūrei. As long as Itachi found an opportunity to fulfill the task assigned, Kaito would be able to use Yūrei's yokai power to pinpoint the target's dreamscape, thereby gaining free access.
Regardless of who it was, dreams are the most undefended places. Kaito could then unearth more secrets.
After all, facing Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, who nearly obliterated the world a millennium ago, Kaito now had the advantage of preparation. He intended to maximize this advantage as much as possible.
For the next two days, besides his study and training time, Sasuke clung to Mikoto, allowing Kaito to tease him thoroughly.
At first, Sasuke would blush, but he seemed to get used to it eventually and completely ignored his uncle.
Hmph, you're just taking advantage of my study time to be with mom.
Sasuke thought indignantly.
Time flew, and on the third day, before Mikoto's departure, Kaito had another lengthy discussion with her.
Since every helper mattered, naturally, he aimed to recruit strong members from the Uchiha clan first.
This conversation mainly revolved around the world's impending threats and Kaito's plans.
Mikoto agreed to persuade Fugaku Uchiha when the time came.
Finally, under Sasuke's reluctant gaze, Mikoto's figure vanished, leaving behind only a broken paper figure.
Kaito patted Sasuke's shoulder, consoling, "Don't worry, if I could summon her once, I can do it many times."
"Yeah."
Sasuke nodded, still looking somewhat forlorn. After all, the separation of life and death couldn't be bridged by such means.
Kaito encouraged, "Keep it up, Sasuke. Once you've mastered the psychic techniques, I'll summon both your mother and father to see you."
"I'll get back to my studies then."
And with that, Sasuke dived back into the ocean of knowledge.
Days passed, and finally, Yūrei arrived at the Uchiha residence.
Kaito was quite satisfied with this development.
Considering a yokai's sense of time, Yūrei's prompt arrival was quite commendable.
"So, you're planning to perform the summoning here?" Yūrei elegantly knelt in the living room, gracefully sipping tea.
"We'll go to the castle tower," Kaito decided, "I'm thinking of letting Lady Chiri meet that legendary Uchiha as well."
"Hmph, whatever suits you," Yūrei set down her teacup, leisurely smoothing her sleeves, "Anyway, I'm not interested in this 'Madara'."
"Alright then, let's go," Kaito also rose from his seat.
Together with Chiri Uchiha, they headed to the castle tower, selected an empty hall, and began their preparations.
Unlike the summoning of Mikoto, this time there wasn't a specific target. Kaito first opened the gateway between the Pure Land and the present world.
As the dark passageway opened, Chiri Uchiha instinctively distanced herself a bit.
"I feel drawn to the Pure Land," she said, frowning at the portal before smiling resignedly. "Though it's been many years delayed, it seems I'll eventually pass on."
"It's not just you, Lady Chiri; eventually, everyone goes," Kaito Uchiha remarked, his eyes shining with an unprecedented determination. "However, going to slumber in the Pure Land isn't my goal; reconstructing the underworld is."
"Ah, rebuilding the underworld? Kaito, your ambition is truly grand," Yūrei complimented, gazing at Kaito with a tender look.
If the underworld were rebuilt, Kaito would become a deity, meaning she and Kaito could be together forever.
Yūrei's cheeks flushed pink at the thought.
However, Kaito didn't pick up on her signal, continuing instead, "Without the cycle of reincarnation, this world will weaken over time. Rebuilding the underworld is necessary. And Lady Chiri's Sharingan will be a key step in that process, so it's not yet time for her to cross over."
"Whether for the world or for Kaito, I'll give it my all," Chiri nodded in agreement.
"Though I've thanked you many times, I'm profoundly grateful, Lady Chiri."
"After all, Kaito is like a child to me, having watched him grow up."
"...You didn't need to say that," Kaito responded, visibly exasperated, then turned to Yūrei, "Miss Yūrei, it's your turn to act."
"Hmph."
So you finally remembered I'm here?
Yūrei, with a wave of her sleeves, released countless colorful, translucent butterflies. They sprinkled sparkling powder as they flew towards the portal.
"Let's take a good look," she said, as the butterflies entered the Pure Land and she closed her eyes, her body becoming ethereal and then vanishing as if passing through a barrier.
Dreamscapes were numerous.
Yūrei frowned.
Really, if it weren't for Kaito's request, she wouldn't bother with such a troublesome task.
Yūrei quickly navigated through various dreamscapes, searching for possible clues.
Back in the real world, Kaito maintained the stability of the portal while waiting.
Hours passed without Yūrei's return.
"It seems not easy to find the right person," Chiri remarked.
"Ah, this is actually a crude method," Kaito admitted. "Right now, it's the only method I can think of."
"Don't worry, Yūrei is very capable in this regard," Chiri reassured.
"I don't doubt her abilities," Kaito said, "but since she has no idea who Madara is, there's a chance she might find the wrong person. After all, dreamscapes are varied and bizarre."
As he finished speaking, Yūrei's ethereal figure reappeared before them.
"I've found him," Yūrei announced, her body solidifying back in the real world.
"Thank you for your hard work," Kaito smiled gratefully. "Let's start the summoning."
With an increase in his ocular and spiritual power output, a new formation appeared beside the portal to the Pure Land.
This time, since the summoning targeted a male, the new formation was placed on the left.
Kaito then tossed a prepared paper figure.
"Miss Yūrei!"
Prompted by his reminder, Yūrei sprinkled some shimmering powder on the paper figure, which gently landed in the center of the left formation.
"As per the divine command!"
As Kaito acted, both formations started to shimmer, and the paper figure began to shake.
Is he coming? Could it be Madara Uchiha?
Kaito watched the paper figure, a look of anticipation on his face.
