Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Prophecy
Back in Wakanda, T'Challa reclaimed his throne and declared the war officially over. He ordered all Wakandan forces abroad to return home and pledged reparations for the damage caused during the conflict. Yet, unlike a typical defeated nation, Wakanda's immense wealth and resources ensured its recovery would be swift.
Following his return to power, T'Challa announced a historic decision: Wakanda would open its borders to the world, embracing global collaboration. It was a choice mirroring his path in the original timeline, a step toward making Wakanda a beacon of hope and progress.
Thor, however, had no part in these developments. His mind was occupied with more pressing concerns.
The year was drawing to a close, and 2017 loomed on the horizon—a year that Thor knew would bring the ultimate confrontation. Thanos, the Mad Titan, was coming.
Among all the enemies Thor had faced, Thanos was not the strongest. But he was undoubtedly the most formidable in other ways. His cunning, his determination, and his singular focus had allowed him to achieve what no other villain had: defeating the Avengers. The weight of that knowledge gnawed at Thor.
In the fiery realm of Muspelheim, Thor confronted the towering Flame Giant, Surtur. The giant's molten form glowed as he peered down at the Asgardian.
"Thor Odinson," Surtur growled, his voice like grinding stone. "Odin's runt. What brings you to my domain?"
"And here I thought you were dead," Thor retorted, a smirk playing on his lips. "Didn't my father finish you off half a million years ago?"
"Foolish boy," Surtur sneered. "It will take more than Odin to kill me. My destiny is to fulfill the prophecy—to bring about Ragnarok and destroy Asgard."
Thor raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Go on, then. I love hearing about 'great prophecies.'"
Surtur straightened, his voice booming with pride. "When my crown is reunited with the Eternal Flame, I shall rise again. My power will awaken, and I will pierce Asgard with my sword! All will burn in the great fire, and Asgard will be no more!"
Thor tilted his head, unimpressed. "Nice speech. But prophecies are made to be broken."
Lightning surged around Thor as he gripped Stormbreaker tightly. Without another word, he swung the axe, the crackling blade slicing toward Surtur.
Outside the cavern, a massive dragon roared and swooped to Surtur's aid. Its wings spanned the sky, its scales glinting with firelight. But before it could reach Thor, another dragon intercepted it.
A female voice cut through the chaos. "You dare call yourself a dragon?"
Onyxia, the Black Dragon Princess, lunged forward. Her claws dug into the opposing dragon's neck as her teeth tore into its throat. The creature thrashed, trying to retaliate, but Onyxia slammed it to the ground, her immense strength pinning it down.
"Crack!"
With a brutal twist, Onyxia snapped the dragon's neck. Its lifeless body hit the ground with a thunderous crash, sending dust and debris flying.
Inside the cavern, Surtur roared in defiance. A massive, flaming crown burst from the ground, its glow illuminating the chamber. Thor wasted no time.
"Seal it," he ordered.
Using ancient Asgardian magic, Thor and his allies transported Surtur's crown to the frozen wastes of Jotunheim, where its power would be weakened by the icy environment. Over time, its strength would diminish until it faded completely.
"I'll handle Hela without Ragnarok," Thor muttered, satisfied with the outcome.
Elsewhere, at Kamar-Taj, Thor sat across from Doctor Strange, his tone uncharacteristically grim. "Thanos is coming," he said plainly.
"Who?" Strange asked, his expression puzzled.
"Thanos," Thor repeated. "A tyrant collecting the Infinity Stones."
Wong, who was standing nearby, let out a long sigh. "Are you sure you're not talking about yourself? You already have three stones in your possession. And, if we're being honest, you have all the makings of a tyrant."
Thor ignored the jab. "I only wield power against enemies. But the arrival of the Infinity Stones isn't something you should take lightly."
Strange and Wong exchanged glances. "The Infinity Stones are recorded in the ancient tomes of Kamar-Taj," Wong admitted. With a flick of his wrist, he conjured a glowing magical construct illustrating the Stones' origins.
"At the dawn of the universe," Wong explained, "there was only chaos. Then, with the Big Bang, six singularities were forged into elemental crystals—the Infinity Stones. They drifted through the nascent cosmos, each embodying a unique aspect of existence: Space, Time, Mind, Power, Reality, and Soul."
Strange nodded, adding, "The Eye of Agamotto, the sacred relic we protect, is none other than the Time Stone."
Chanting softly, strange activated the Eye, and a green glow filled the room as the Time Stone flickered to life.
