I am Thor

Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Asgard’s Daily Life

It was Thor's second day back in Asgard, and Wanda had gone to Frigga. Though their powers differed, as witches, they shared a kinship, and Frigga, the wisest person in Asgard, could teach Wanda a lot about controlling her abilities. Spending time with Frigga would help Wanda develop crucial skills—at the very least, learning to create a shield to protect herself.

With little else to do, Thor decided to take a vacation. He wasn't planning to intervene in the Ultron project on Earth just yet. Tony, with his genius-level IQ, was unlikely to listen to advice until he saw the project's flaws himself. Thor suspected that Tony had moved forward with the Ultron experiment without consulting anyone precisely because he didn't want to be talked out of it.

Privately, Thor had his own doubts about the Ultron initiative, even if it succeeded. The idea of surrounding Earth in an armor of protection sounded appealing but was fundamentally flawed. Earth's technological foundation was still too weak; even Tony's genius couldn't bridge that gap alone.

If the Ultron project succeeded, it could handle minor threats, keeping most villains from setting foot on Earth. But against true supervillains like Thanos or Dormammu, the technology would prove useless. In fact, Thanos' own technological mastery was evidence of how limited Earth's advancements were. He'd even been able to duplicate Pym particles—technology no one on Earth could replicate for years. Thor doubted an army of Iron Legion suits could do much more than delay a true cosmic threat.

There was another reason Thor was willing to let the Ultron incident play out. The Sokovia event was bound to catch Washington's attention, sparking debates over superpowers and governance. It would serve as the perfect catalyst for introducing the Sokovia Accords, a tool Thor planned to use to expose and flush out corrupt politicians. Once they revealed their true colors, cleaning up would be easy.

Thor turned to Carol with a smirk. "So, got any big plans? Do space cops even get vacations, or did you just sneak away?"

Carol shot him a glare. "Even 'space cops' need breaks! Most planets don't need my help every day, you know. Not every street thief out there needs Captain Marvel to step in."

Suddenly, her eyes lit up. She'd remembered something. "Hey, remember our deal? We said we'd go all out in a spar when we met again!"

Thor shook his head quickly. "Nah, forget it. You know how it'd turn out anyway."

Realization dawned on Carol, and her enthusiasm waned. "Yeah… Neither of us can break through each other's defenses. We'd just be punching air."

After a pause, Carol asked, "By the way, how's Earth been these past few years? I hear a lot more people with superpowers are popping up."

"Right," Thor said, nodding. "Since you left, Nick Fury started the Avengers Initiative. He's been recruiting all kinds of heroes from around the world to help protect Earth. There are already over a dozen Avengers now, though their strength varies. Wanda's a recent recruit, and her power is terrifying. Honestly, she could end up being the strongest Avenger."

Carol raised an eyebrow. "Really? The strongest? Coming from you, that's saying something."

Thor shrugged. "Her power is very specific. She has incredible offensive capabilities but low defenses. She's strong but also easy to target—an obvious flaw. But her potential is unparalleled."

"Think she's stronger than me?" Carol challenged.

"In a way, yes," Thor replied. "Do you know what her power is?"

"No. What is it?"

"Reality manipulation," Thor said. "She can alter anything she chooses. She could rewrite your past, make you believe you were born Kree and that Yon-Rogg never lied to you. Or she could change the pilot roster for the mission where you got your powers, meaning you'd have no powers at all. Captain Marvel would've never existed. If her power is fully realized, she could decide Earth is the center of the universe, and it would be true. She could even erase the Big Bang itself, collapsing the entire universe."

Carol laughed, a bit incredulously. "So, you're saying she can alter reality itself?"

Thor shook his head, smiling faintly. "No. I'm saying she has the power to play god."
