I am Thor

Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Odin Appears

The tension in the air was thick as both sides stood ready, eyes locked, prepared to strike at any moment. Thanos knew his plans had failed, but he wasn't about to leave empty-handed. If nothing else, he intended to inflict significant losses on his opponents.

His gaze settled on Wanda. Her abilities were too dangerous, and her defenses nearly nonexistent. If she grew stronger, she'd pose an even greater threat than Thor or Captain Marvel. It had been Wanda, after all, who initially held him back, leading to the death of Cull Obsidian and the severe wounding of Proxima Midnight.

Thor instinctively stepped in front of Wanda, shielding her. Thanos would undoubtedly target her first; her powers posed the greatest danger to him, but her weakened state made her an easy target. Thor and Carol lacked the means to kill Thanos directly. Only Wanda had the potential to turn the tide—if she could recover her strength.

Wanda, unaware of Thanos' intentions, was deeply moved by Thor's protective stance in the face of such a powerful enemy.

Suddenly, Thanos struck, hurling his Tyrant's Blade toward Wanda in a spinning arc.

"Get down!" Thor shouted, pushing Wanda out of harm's way. The blade narrowly missed them, embedding itself in the ground. Carol retaliated with a powerful energy blast, but Thanos blocked it with one hand and caught his returning blade with the other. He sidestepped, leaped into the air, and launched an attack on Carol.

Meanwhile, Ebony Maw raised his fingers, summoning boulders that morphed into sharp spikes and shot toward Wanda. Activating her powers, Wanda enveloped herself in red energy, disintegrating the spikes into dust.

From behind, Corvus Glaive lunged at Thor with his double-edged spear. Thor caught the weapon mid-strike, kicked Corvus back, and was about to finish him off when Thanos broke free from Captain Marvel's assault and charged at Wanda. Thor had no choice but to turn and intercept Thanos, shielding Wanda once again.

Frustration simmered within Thor. Thanos had no qualms about sacrificing his own allies, but Thor couldn't abandon Wanda. As a mage, her defenses were fragile compared to her offensive power, and Thanos clearly intended to exploit this weakness, aiming his attacks at Wanda whenever possible. Without full strength, she was vulnerable, and the danger was escalating.

Just then, a loud boom echoed across the battlefield. The sky split with a brilliant light as the Bifrost descended between the two sides. Gungnir, lying nearby, flew up and disappeared into the beam of light.

An ancient, resonant voice rang out.

"Thanos, you are in a hurry…"

Thanos froze mid-action, his expression darkening as he stopped dead. He raised his blade in defense, signaling Ebony Maw and Corvus Glaive to hold back as well.

Carol tensed, ready to fire, but Thor quickly stopped her. "Wait—he's one of ours. I don't think we'll need to fight anymore."

As the light faded, Odin emerged, holding Gungnir, his entire presence radiating divine power. He fixed Thanos with a wise, penetrating gaze.

"Centuries ago, you faced defeat here in Asgard. And now, in my twilight, you seek to invade the Nine Realms again. I thought the destruction of the dark elves would deter forces that meddle with death, but it seems some are simply born to invite ruin upon themselves."

Thanos sneered. "Do you think you can still defeat me, old man? Your time is running out. Destroying Svartálfheim exhausted what little strength you had left. Even if you have some hidden power, your prime is far behind you."

Odin smiled faintly. "Is that so? Then you're welcome to test it." The light from his Destroyer armor glowed, covering his entire body in an aura of raw power. "But I would suggest you consider the consequences carefully. This time, there may be no escape for you."

Thanos' mind raced. Odin was indeed past his prime, with little time left, but he clearly still wielded immense power. Any battle would likely end in a costly stalemate, a mutual destruction that Thanos could ill afford. Odin had nothing to lose, but Thanos had much at stake—especially with Thor and Captain Marvel waiting nearby.

A fight with Odin would be protracted, and Ebony Maw and Corvus Glaive wouldn't last ten seconds against Thor and Carol. If he were to be overwhelmed, Odin's presence would make escape nearly impossible.

After a tense pause, Thanos made his decision. He turned and spoke in a low voice. "The Infinity Gauntlet's mold was destroyed in the battle. There's no point in remaining here. We retreat."

Ebony Maw nodded in understanding, and with a wave of his hand, a small spaceship appeared in the distance, speeding toward them.

Thanos glanced back at Odin with a cold stare. "You may have won this time, but you won't last much longer. I look forward to seeing what happens to Asgard after you're gone."

He turned and stepped onto the spaceship, issuing the order. "Let's go!"

The ship rose into the sky, entering a wormhole and disappearing from sight.
