Hp:Merlin From Azkaban

Chapter 9: 9

Dana hadn't expected to finish everything so quickly.

By the time he returned to his room at the Leaky Cauldron, it wasn't even lunchtime.

He raised an eyebrow, picked up the note from the floor, and quickly stepped inside.

Dispelling the Disillusionment Charm, he restored his appearance and changed into Hannah's brother's old clothes.

The girl had good taste—the clothes fit perfectly.

And despite being twenty years old, they weren't out of fashion.

In the wizarding world, fashion trends had barely changed for centuries.

To Dana, the few sets of clothing Hannah had given him were practically brand new.

He sat by the window, staring into the distance.

His thoughts drifted—

Sometimes, he thought of his mother.

Sometimes, he thought of his previous life.

Sometimes, he wondered who his true enemies were.

And sometimes, he imagined what life would be like at Hogwarts.

A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts.

Dana stood up and opened it.

Outside stood Hannah, holding a plate of food.

Beside her was a tall, thin witch, dressed in emerald-green robes—

Her square spectacles, her sharp yet kind features—

Dana immediately recognized her.

Professor Minerva McGonagall.

Before his transmigration, the actress who had played Professor McGonagall, Maggie Smith, had recently passed away.

Dana had mourned for days.

After all, McGonagall had always been his favorite character in the Harry Potter series.

"Hey, Dana!" Hannah greeted him cheerfully.

When she noticed Dana wearing her brother's clothes, she beamed.

"This is your lunch. Also, this is Professor McGonagall from Hogwarts. She wants to talk to you."

Dana took the plate with a small nod.

"Thank you, Hannah."

Hannah's smile grew softer.

"Dana, you look much better than this morning!"

Dana offered a gentle, sunny smile.

For some reason, Hannah's face suddenly turned red, and she hurriedly lowered her head.

"W-Well… enjoy your meal! See you later!"

With that, she scurried away.

Dana turned to McGonagall.

"Professor, please have a seat. If you don't mind, can we talk while I eat?"

McGonagall studied him carefully.

His eyes held deep sorrow, his expression haunted.

It was understandable—

He had survived Azkaban for four years.

And now, his only family was gone.

Even an adult would struggle with such grief.

Let alone an eleven-year-old child.

For a professor so strict about rules, McGonagall found herself unexpectedly softening.

She nodded.

"Of course, child."

Dana lowered his head and began eating, murmuring:

"Thank you, Professor."

McGonagall sighed.

Then, regaining her usual composure, she said:

"We originally planned to have our groundskeeper escort you for your school shopping. But after speaking with Professor Snape, we grew concerned about your well-being."

"So today, I will personally take you to Diagon Alley to buy your school supplies. Afterward, I will escort you to Hogwarts."

Dana paused, putting down his knife and fork.

He swallowed his food before speaking—a detail that made McGonagall nod in approval.

"Professor, I deeply appreciate your concern. However, I must decline the early departure to Hogwarts."

McGonagall raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

Dana sighed internally.

If I leave early, how will I meet Mr. Borgin for my information?

But instead, he said:

"My mother always told me that every Hogwarts student must take the Hogwarts Express and cross the Black Lake by boat to reach the castle. That is the true beginning of a Hogwarts journey."

"She imagined that moment for years, dreaming about how it would be when I first stepped into Hogwarts."

"This was one of her greatest wishes."

"So, Professor, I believe that if I experience this the way all first-years do, my mother's spirit will be at peace."

McGonagall stiffened, eyes slightly widening.

She lifted a hand to cover her mouth.

This child…

Despite everything, he still cherished his mother's dream.

Surely, a boy with such kindness and devotion could not be a bad child.

Perhaps Snape was worrying too much…

Even if this boy had shared a cell block with Sirius Black, he would never be led astray.

McGonagall sighed and nodded.

"Alright, child. Eat quickly. Afterward, we will go shopping. I believe you should have your first wand."

She expected this to make Dana excited.

After all, every young wizard thrilled at getting their first wand.

But Dana's expression remained unchanged.

He simply nodded.

"Okay."

Buying robes, books, and a cauldron—none of that required detailed descriptions.

As for pets—

Sorry, but Hogwarts was paying for Dana's expenses.

As the school's Deputy Headmistress, McGonagall wasn't about to approve funds for unnecessary luxuries.

However, she did personally buy Dana a copy of One Hundred Magical Applications of Transfiguration—

A gift, paid from her own salary.

Finally, they arrived at Ollivander's Wand Shop.

The sign was old and faded, but the words were still legible:

Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.

Seconds after they entered, a ghostly figure emerged from behind the towering stacks of wand boxes.

"Minerva! A rare sight indeed, bringing a student in person!"

McGonagall nodded.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Ollivander. This is Mr. Avery. Please help him find a wand."

Dana suddenly turned to McGonagall.

"Professor, I don't want to use the name Avery anymore. I want to take my mother's surname. Is that allowed?"

McGonagall's expression softened.

"That is your personal decision. But… does this mean you are leaving the Avery family?"

Dana let out a bitter smile.

"Professor, do you really think they ever considered me family?"

McGonagall sighed and said nothing.

"From today onwards, my name is Dana Emrys."

McGonagall nodded, turning back to Ollivander.

"This is Mr. Emrys, Mr. Ollivander. Please assist him."

There was no need to detail every wand failure.

In the end, Dana's perfect match was a 12.5-inch ebony wand with a Chinese Fireball dragon heartstring core.

McGonagall clapped her hands.

"Oh, ebony! An excellent wood for Transfiguration!"

As a Transfiguration professor, she naturally favored students with potential in her subject.

Ollivander nodded.

"Indeed, but this wand is also exceptional for combat magic."

After paying seven Galleons, McGonagall led Dana back toward the Leaky Cauldron.

As they walked, she gently took his hand.

Then, just before reaching the brick wall, she asked:

"Mr. Emrys, I heard from Professor Snape that your hair was dark chestnut… but now it's white. Why?"

Dana lowered his head.

His voice was soft.

"I don't know. I woke up one morning… and it was white."

"Which morning?"

"The day after Professor Snape brought me here. I think… maybe it's because I miss my mother too much."
