Chapter 12: 12
Sally Avery lay motionless on the ground, his face frozen in an expression of pure terror.
Dana raised his hand—
"Incendio!" [Blaze]
Dana didn't use Fiendfyre—although he knew the curse, it was far too unstable.
A simple Fire-Making Spell would do.
The moment the spell activated, he was grateful he hadn't used Fiendfyre—
Because the flames that erupted weren't the usual orange-red.
They burned blue-white—a sign of incredibly high heat.
In an instant, Sally Avery's corpse disintegrated into ashes.
The fire spread, threatening to consume the entire house.
"Aguamenti!" [Water Fountain]
Dana considered using Aqua Eructo, but it was too forceful—in his current state, it could demolish the entire house.
Instead, he opted for a gentler spell.
Water flowed smoothly from his fingertips, and with a series of hissing sounds, the fire was extinguished.
Only a few wisps of smoke remained.
Dana stepped through the front door, casting a Confundus Charm and a Muggle-Repelling Charm over the house—
Now, no Muggle would notice Sally Avery's absence for at least three months.
By then, his ashes would have blended with the dust.
Not even Merlin himself would be able to trace who did it.
Speaking of Merlin…
Dana felt stronger than ever.
Regular flying in his bird form had strengthened his body.
And thanks to Hannah and Old Tom's care, he was no longer as thin as before.
Perhaps, killing Sally Avery had released some of his pent-up rage.
Dana finally started eating in the Leaky Cauldron's main hall instead of hiding away.
It wasn't right to trouble Hannah and Old Tom forever.
He still had unfinished revenge, but for now, he needed to wait—
The Avery family was untouchable for now.
John Flint and Gaius Avery were still missing.
And then, there was the mysterious Ministry official who had helped them…
Dana needed time.
Hogwarts would be the perfect place to grow stronger and gather information.
He had plenty of patience.
Looking back, his revenge on Sally Avery had been too quick.
A single Killing Curse had been far too merciful.
Wouldn't it have been better to let the man live in misery for decades instead?
Dana would take his time from now on.
Slowly.
Carefully.
One by one.
As Dana walked down the stairs, he bumped into a boy.
Messy black hair, round glasses, and a lightning-shaped scar.
"Hello, are you a new student too?"
The boy looked startled.
"Ah? Me? Yes, I am."
"I'm Dana Emrys. What's your name?"
"Harry. Harry Potter."
Dana paused for a moment, then smiled.
"Oh, I've heard of you, Harry. You're famous in the wizarding world."
Harry winced slightly.
"Oh, really? Everyone's been too enthusiastic. I can't stand it."
It was funny, really—
Harry had been staying at the Leaky Cauldron this whole time, yet they were only meeting now—
Just one week before school started.
"Hahaha, don't worry, Harry. Once we get to school, I'll help share the attention."
Harry looked at Dana, confused.
"Are you famous too, Dana?"
Dana chuckled.
"I was the first student in Hogwarts history to receive an acceptance letter in Azkaban."
Harry's eyes widened.
"Azkaban? What's that?"
Dana patted his shoulder.
"It's the wizarding prison. They keep the worst criminals there, guarded by Dementors—soulless, terrifying creatures."
Harry looked horrified.
"You're kidding, right?"
"I wish I was, Harry. But I was locked up there for four years. If Hogwarts hadn't sent me a letter, I'd still be there."
Harry shrank back slightly.
"But… four years ago, you were only seven. How could a seven-year-old be sent to Azkaban?"
Dana nodded internally.
Even after years of abuse, Harry still had empathy.
Unlike most, he didn't look disgusted or fearful.
Instead, he looked…
Sad.
"Let me guess…" Harry said slowly.
"You… didn't actually commit a crime, did you?"
Dana smiled slightly.
"You guessed right. I was framed—used as a scapegoat."
Harry gasped.
"That's horrible! That means—"
"That means the real criminal is still free, yes."
Harry's fists clenched.
"That's not fair! Can't you go to the Ministry of Magic and demand justice?"
Dana laughed softly.
*"Harry, the person who framed me holds a high position. The Ministry of Magic needs their money.
Justice? Doesn't exist."*
Harry lowered his head, deep in thought.
For the first time, he realized—
The world wasn't always fair.
"Okay, enough about that. I'm going down to eat. What room are you staying in, Harry?"
"Oh! I'm in 216!"
Dana blinked.
"You're right next door to me?"
"Yeah! I arrived on July 31st."
"Merlin, I've been here since August 2nd—and we're only meeting now?"
Harry laughed sheepishly.
"I guess I've just been… too overwhelmed."
Dana grinned.
"Well, now that we've met, feel free to visit me anytime."
And so, from that moment on—
Harry visited Dana's room frequently.
And every time, he found Dana reading.
"You're really studious, Dana!"
Dana smiled.
*"I don't have your genius mind, Harry. No powerful background.
The only thing I can rely on is hard work."*
Harry nodded seriously.
Dana had earned his respect.
On August 31st, Hagrid came to pick up Harry.
Harry excitedly invited Dana to ride with them, but—
Hagrid quickly refused.
"Ah, sorry, lad. The motorcycle can't carry too much weight."
Dana laughed bitterly.
Right.
The Azkaban label.
Hagrid looked at him like a ticking time bomb.
As if he'd said—
"Harry, don't get too close to this criminal."
Even before school started, the bias had begun.
Harry got a warm escort.
Dana?
He had to find his own way.
So, with a sigh, he opened his window—
Transformed into a peregrine falcon—
And flew toward King's Cross Station.
Fast.
Silent.
Unnoticed.
Just as he landed near the station, there was a knock on his door back at the Leaky Cauldron.
Standing outside?
Professor McGonagall.
