Chapter 72: Legacy(chapter 71)
Chapter 71
Trigon, noticing the shift, tilted his head with amusement. "Have you given up after seeing how futile it is to oppose Trigon the Terrible?" he taunted, his voice dripping with condescension. Grey said nothing, his silence a stark defiance. Stretching out his hands, he summoned his power: hellfire burned fiercely, ice crackled with frosty intensity, starlight shimmered brilliantly, and his magic surged like a raging tide. Trigon laughed, unimpressed. "It's pointless, human. No matter what form you take, no matter what powers you acquire, you cannot match Trigon. I am insurmountable." Grey remained unbothered, the elements in his hands swirling violently. They grew at a ridiculous rate, their energies spinning together like the collision of two stars on the brink of destruction.
The ground beneath Grey trembled as he began to float, his spinning energy gaining speed and ferocity. The swirling mass grew larger and more volatile with every second, its sheer magnitude causing the very air to vibrate with tension. Even Trigon's amusement began to waver as he noticed the raw, uncontained power Grey was summoning. Still, he made no move to intervene. Instead, he sat back with an entertained smirk, watching the display unfold as though it were a trivial spectacle. Grey ignored him entirely, focusing on the ever-intensifying sphere of energy. The spinning reached a critical point, and the elements collided.
At first, there was nothing—no air, no magic, no sound, no color. Then, the destructive force erupted: chaos energy, raw and unrefined, burst forth in a cataclysmic explosion. The uncontrolled force tore through reality itself, shaking existence to its core. Trigon's confidence wavered as he shouted in disbelief, "Impossible! How can you attain chaos?" His voice was drowned out by the relentless onslaught of chaos energy spreading across the battlefield, obliterating everything in its wake. When the light finally faded, only Grey remained. He knelt in the center of a massive crater, armless and legless, his body torn apart. Yet, in moments, his limbs began to regenerate, flesh knitting itself back together with eerie efficiency.
Before Grey could regain his footing, a massive red hand reached down, plunging into his chest with terrifying precision. The hand went beyond his physical body, reaching into his very soul. Trigon, now reduced in size and missing a horn, snarled as his horn quickly regrew. "That was raw, unrefined chaos, but I have tamed chaos. Now give me your soul," he growled, his voice a sinister echo. He attempted to pull Grey's soul free, but suddenly, his hand turned to stone. Trigon recoiled in shock as the petrified hand shattered into pieces. He stumbled back, his gaze wary. "The power of destruction... What are you?" he demanded. From the depths of Grey's soul, a green light emerged, taking form before them.
The light solidified into a dynamic, jagged, cat-like figure with sharp, angular lines that emphasized its destructive nature. Its body glowed with intense green energy, contrasted by dark, shadowy undertones. Piercing, feline eyes glared menacingly, and its posture radiated an aura of overwhelming power. The entity spoke, its voice reverberating with destructive energy. "I am Plagg, the Kwami of Destruction. I am everything that is and will not be." Trigon and Grey both stood frozen in confusion, but before they could process this revelation, another light appeared. This one was luminous and ethereal, forming a humanoid, butterfly-like entity. Its slender form radiated glowing red and white patterns, and expansive, translucent wings shone with divine brilliance.
The second being spoke in a voice both soothing and authoritative. "I am Tikki, the Kwami of Creation. I am everything that isn't and is yet to be." The two entities stood side by side, their voices harmonizing as they declared, "And we are the guardians of Grey Agreste." Grey's confusion deepened as he staggered to his feet. "Why were you in my body?" he demanded. Plagg, with a smirk, replied, "We were left by your parents to protect you in case of danger you could not handle." Tikki added, her voice calm, "Like an interdimensional being who can warp reality." Plagg chimed in with a grin, "Don't worry, kid. With us by your side, warping reality is easy-cheesy."
As both Kwami fused with Grey in an instant, Trigon, observing, muttered with irritation, "This is getting more annoying." Grey's appearance shifted as he merged with the two Kwami, his form taking on features that resembled theirs but with a radiant golden hue. Feeling the surge of his newfound powers, Grey was momentarily speechless. Plagg's voice echoed in his mind, "Kid, hurry up and send him back to his dimension. The longer he's outside and not in hibernation, the more unstable this reality will become. This demon can't die." Despite the warning, Grey attempted to destroy Trigon. He tried dismantling him atom by atom, flipping his palm to erase him, but each attempt was futile as Trigon regenerated instantly. Determined and angry, Grey tried repeatedly, ignoring the futility.
"Kid!" Plagg shouted in frustration as Tikki joined in, her tone firm yet empathetic. "Grey, I know you're angry, but that demon can't die. He's continuously growing stronger by feeding off the negative emotions in this world. You must send him back before we are forced into a hibernation state." Hearing this, Grey's rage subsided momentarily. With renewed focus, he lifted his hand, conjuring a dimensional rift—the same one from which Trigon had been summoned. "No, no!" Trigon roared as he was dragged toward the rift. His defiance echoed as he was banished, "This is not the end, mortal. Do you hear me? This is not the end!"
As silence fell, Grey gathered the remnants of darkness from Rachel's shattered cane and shaped it into a dark egg. He stared at the egg for a moment as reality trembled, becoming highly unstable. Not a second later, both Kwami unfused from Grey, reverting to their smaller forms. Plagg, now resembling a small black cat the size of a fairy, hovered lazily as he remarked, "You really are as hard-headed as your father." Tikki, a red, fairy-sized figure with delicate features, added, "Yes, he definitely has the same personality as his father. Marinette would have handled this differently." The two circled Grey, who remained fixated on the egg. Plagg yawned, muttering, "He even loves like his father."
"Are they alive?" Grey asked suddenly, his voice hoarse and deep as he clutched the egg. Plagg and Tikki exchanged a glance before Plagg replied solemnly, "No, not in the current timeline nor in this universe." Saddened, Tikki added gently, "But you father adrian agreste, and your mother marinate were our wielders, they loved you more than anything. It took everything in them to leave you at that orphanage, but they had to, to protect you." Her exhaustion was evident in her voice. Grey, seated in the middle of the massive crater left behind, sighed heavily and muttered, "Go back to where you were resting. I can't handle the noise," his tone empty and detached. Sharing a glance, Tikki and Plagg quietly returned to rest within his soul, leaving Grey lying alone amidst the devastation.
