Chapter 332: So, this little fairy is the one who’s been keeping Blake so busy
"Sister, where is big brother Blake?" Gabriel asked, tugging on her sister's sleeve.
"Didn't you say you could help me find him today? Sister! Sister! Why do you keep looking away from me?"
Fleur sighed, her patience wearing thin. She never thought her sister could be this relentless. They'd been searching all day, and Gabriel was still as determined as ever to find Blake.
Fleur thought back to when her parents dropped Gabriel off before going on vacation, saying she'd understand soon enough. Only now did she realize that they likely needed a break from her energetic little sister too.
But the responsibility had fallen on her, and with her parents due back tomorrow, Fleur knew she just had to hang on until then. For now, however, she'd agreed to help Gabriel find Blake, though she was starting to regret it.
That day, she'd sent an owl with a letter to Blake, hoping for a response that would at least give Gabriel some peace of mind. The owl had returned earlier, so Fleur knew Blake had gotten the letter, and he must have responded if the owl flew back.
"Look, Gabriel, I did send him a letter. He'll be here soon." Fleur tried to reassure her sister, hoping this would satisfy her for now.
But Gabriel was insistent. "I don't want to go home yet, Sister! I have to find him!"
Realizing Gabriel wouldn't be pacified without results, Fleur sighed and decided she needed to find Blake as much as Gabriel did.
Clearly, he'd done something to earn her sister's obsession. Why else would Gabriel be this infatuated with him? Fleur was growing increasingly curious, and admittedly, she wanted answers.
Finally, as they rested in a nearby park, an owl flew over, landing gracefully on a nearby bench. Fleur eagerly took the letter and noticed the paper looked familiar.
"Wait, it's the same letter I sent!" she muttered. Examining it, she saw a brief response scribbled on the back.
Two words stood out in bold letters: "No time."
Fleur's eyes narrowed, her grip tightening as she read the curt response.
"He… he actually said he's 'not free'? Not even a full sentence or an exclamation point!"
Blake's indifferent reply stoked her simmering anger. This was the boy her sister adored? The nerve! She'd seen her fair share of admirers and admirers rejected, but never this nonchalantly.
'No time!' The words replayed in her mind, adding fuel to her frustration.
Forcing herself to stay calm, Fleur glanced at Gabriel, who looked expectant, her wide eyes fixed on her older sister. Gabriel hadn't read the response yet, and Fleur wasn't about to tell her.
Putting on a neutral expression, she said, "Gabriel, it seems like your brother Blake isn't free today. Let's head home for now, okay?"
Gabriel tilted her head, considering this. "Alright! That's fine, Sister. Blake will come to see me soon anyway, right?"
Fleur blinked, astonished at her sister's calm acceptance. Gabriel's change in attitude was almost shocking. Had Blake done something to her? It wasn't like her sister to be so easily convinced to leave. Still, she wasn't about to argue, especially if it meant getting home without any further fuss.
But Gabriel's next words struck a nerve. "Since Blake isn't free right now, I'll just be patient and obedient. He'll definitely come to see me then!" she said, smiling. Fleur watched her little sister bounce ahead, her heart sinking.
"What… What has Blake done to my sweet little sister?" she murmured under her breath.
Seeing Gabriel's drastic change in behaviour gave Fleur a new plan. Tomorrow, she'd pull Blake aside and talk to him directly. Clearly, he had some sort of hold over Gabriel, and she wasn't about to let it continue unchecked. For now, she'd placate her sister, but once she got her answers, she'd put an end to this.
Yet, no matter how many letters Fleur sent, no owls ever reached Blake again. Weeks passed, and her frustration grew as Gabriel's obsession with him only intensified. Even when her parents returned from their vacation, Blake was still nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, Blake was blissfully unaware of the chaos he'd left in his wake. He was busy in the back garden of Nicolas Flamel's estate, hence why the letters could not be delivered, tending to his latest project: a growing Acromantula spider.
The creature, affectionately named Xiao Cai, was thriving under his care. In just a week, it had grown to the size of a carriage, its intelligence and strength far surpassing that of typical Acromantula.
Blake found his work with Nicolas Flamel endlessly fascinating. With the elder's help, he had crafted a set of armour that would grow with Xiao Cai, tailored perfectly to the spider's unique needs.
The old alchemist had never created gear for a magical creature before, and he marvelled at Blake's ingenuity, often remarking on the thrill of working alongside him.
"Blake, I've spent centuries researching alchemy, but since you arrived, it's been more exciting than ever!" Nicolas would often say, his voice brimming with enthusiasm.
"You bring a perspective I hadn't considered."
Blake couldn't help but smile at the old man's joy. The feeling was mutual. He'd learned more in these few weeks with Flamel than he had in years of study. However, as rewarding as the experience was, Blake knew he'd have to leave soon.
He'd promised to meet up with Cassandra, who was also in France. He didn't want to overstay his welcome here, especially since he was working to master alchemy himself.
Taking a deep breath, Blake began packing, carefully placing his notes and creations into his bag. With Xiao Cai safely stored in his mirrored space, he felt ready to move on.
Just as he left Nicolas Flamel's estate, Fleur was wandering through the streets of Paris, the frustration of her unsuccessful search weighing on her.
She absently glanced down at the bracelet she wore—a tracking charm she'd borrowed from an old family friend.
She'd tried using it before, hoping it would lead her to Blake, but it had been unresponsive until now. As she walked, the bracelet suddenly began to glow.
"Blake! You bastard… you finally showed up!" Fleur whispered, her eyes narrowing as she checked the location the bracelet indicated. The light was pointing toward a bustling area in the heart of Paris.
Without hesitation, she grabbed her wand and started off in Blake's direction. She wasn't letting him slip away this time. He owed her an explanation, especially after how he'd treated Gabriel.
Just as she sprinted off, Cassandra, who happened to be nearby, overheard the name "Blake" as Fleur dashed past her. Curious, Cassandra stepped out of the shop she'd been browsing and watched Fleur race away.
"Wait a minute… that girl… is she looking for Blake?" she muttered, suddenly recognizing Fleur.
Memories clicked into place, and Cassandra recalled Blake mentioning a particular girl he'd met before—one who'd caught his attention. Realizing Fleur might be that girl, Cassandra couldn't resist the urge to follow.
'So, this little fairy is the one who's been keeping Blake so busy,' she thought with a smirk.
