Chapter 207.1
A wandering soul in the void found a woman sobbing, holding the body of a young girl.
‘Black hair, red eyes.’
Earlier, that poor-looking woman called her ‘Marianne’, didn’t she?
‘Huh?’
As I approached to take a closer look, my body was suddenly pulled in.
‘Am I entering that corpse?’
It felt strange. There was a sacred, sweet, and warm sensation filling the young girl’s body.
The girl’s body began to twitch and come to life.
‘Is this a possession or something?’
Am I going to live in this body now?
Then it happened.
‘Ugh!’
It hurt. An immense pain hit.
“What, what’s happening?”
Marianne looked down at her with a puzzled face.
“You fool, if you use that much divine power in a human body, of course, it’s going to break!”
The red-eyed man scolded Marianne.
“Oh, I…”
“Seems she still had a breath left seeing she came back to life. Wait. Baal. Where is he? Baal?”
Han Yuna. Or perhaps, Lee. Even as she was losing consciousness, she saw the man looking down at her.
“I could have died if I’d endured just a bit longer.”
“…”
“I’m not talking about you. I sent Baal away. But to save you, I have to give you my power… I’ll have to call Baal back.”
“…”
“Just wait a bit, baby.”
The man whispered as he looked down at her.
‘I know you, mister.’
It was undoubtedly the face she had seen in her dream. A handsome and flawless face, red eyes with black pupils.
‘Collen, that’s your name, right?’
But she couldn’t hold on any longer.
She closed her eyes.
The soul named Han Yuna opened her eyes.
“Oh my, Saintess! Our child has come back to life! Saintess!”
Excuse me, ma’am. I’m not your child. Your child was smiling and asked me to send you regards earlier.
I am-
I am Han Yuna. Born in South Korea…
The child wanted to say that.
‘But… why are my memories fading?’
When she opened her eyes again, all memories were gone.
‘Who am I?’
The ignorant woman from the slums was relieved to see her beautiful daughter back. But then she was startled.
While it seemed the Saintess was treating the child, suddenly a man with black hair rushed in.
‘Clearly someone of high stature…’
Then, like the Saintess, the man also collapsed bleeding from his nose.
“If the Saintess and her company died treating our daughter…”
The woman from the slums believed she deserved any punishment that came. Out of fear, she took her daughter, Lee, and fled.
When Lee woke up again, all her memories were gone. Lee’s mother patiently re-taught her everything.
The revived child was now much sharper than before she died.
Lee, who lost her memory, occasionally spoke of strange tales.
“Mom, I had a weird dream. But how old am I? Fifteen?”
While she felt something was off, the joy of finding her child again overshadowed it.
“My name is just Lee.”
Soon after, Lee stopped speaking strangely as if she had completely forgotten everything.
Lee’s mother managed to find a small house under a bridge. Beneath it, Lee used to run around barefoot and learned letters in her mother’s arms.
One day, while her mother wasn’t looking, Lee found something strange under the bridge.
A tall person with shimmering platinum hair and purple eyes was crouching under the bridge.
Lee smiled brightly and reached out.
‘But why does this child have an arm like that?’
That day, they had a piece of bread. It was saved for when her mom and she would have to go hungry due to lack of money.
‘He looks hungrier, let’s give it to him.’
Lee offered the bread.
“You eat.”
The platinum-haired young man, who had been cautious, began to eat the bread hurriedly.
* * *
Her mother left some cryptic last words and died.
Lee didn’t understand. Her mother’s words before dying were too fast and too faint.
“Mom, mom.”
Leticia held her mother’s body and cried. She also had suffered from the plague but miraculously recovered.
“It’s strange.”
“What?”
“A poor child like this wouldn’t have been treated by a high priest… But there are traces of divine power. That’s why her immunity is stronger than average.”
Volunteer priests said so.
Leticia didn’t understand their whispered conversations about her.
“Did she have talent in divine power?”
“No, it’s just a trace. It will fade soon.”
“Then it’s not a big deal.”
“Yes… No. Since she’s young, maybe…”
“What?”
“Maybe, just maybe, if it settles, she might have the talent to become a priestess.”
“Talent?”
“In the past, they would intentionally give divine power to young shamans until they were close to death to awaken various powers. It’s like a legend. Now it’s a forbidden ritual. There are side effects sometimes.”
And so, Lee became a street child, still having lost all her memories.
Until the day she encountered him.
* * *
“My name is Collen de Lewellton.”
Lee shivered as she looked at him.
“Come to me. You understand, right? We need to discuss the ‘help’ you gave me.”
Lee nodded.
But it’s strange. Why did she feel like she had seen this man somewhere?
‘It feels like I’ve actually seen him, not just read about him.’
Another strange thing. Her heart felt heavy and painful.
‘He seems rich, very intimidating, and successful…’
Yet, why did she feel this pity and sympathy for him?
It felt like meeting someone she knew.
Suddenly thinking about a past life, Lee tilted her head.
* * *
“She does look like him.”
Jade looked at Leticia and tilted her head.
“Huh?”
“Aren’t you by any chance a cat?”
“What do you mean?”
Leticia’s eyes widened. They were just like those of Popo. Besides, eat well and play well. Her behavior pattern was exactly the same as Popo.
‘She seems fragile, but she’s full of motivation for life.’
The girl, Lee, gave off the same bright and warm feeling as when Jade thought he had seen Popo’s soul on the day he failed to summon it.
‘Father said she wasn’t brought to be killed. But he’s an unreliable adult.’
I hope she’s not a prey. If she really is meant to die, could I take care of her?
‘I want to feed her, care for her, admire her, and observe her as a substitute for Popo.’
Still, life would be the same, always boring and foolish. Jade thought.
