98. Are All Newcomers Monsters These Days?
“Alright, everyone, let’s take a break. I’ve already asked Sister Zhou to buy some lunch for everyone.”
He Miaomiao gazed at Ling Ning with an almost fanatical admiration in her eyes. Though Ling Ning had insisted on taking one more shot, He Miaomiao had honestly not been hopeful at all. Who could have imagined it?
This third attempt—something had definitely changed. Ling Ning seemed like a completely different person compared to the previous two tries. Every expression, every movement, was flawless.
“Are all newcomers monsters these days?” He Miaomiao thought to herself as she looked at Ling Ning, utterly impressed.
“Sister Miaomiao, was that okay just now?” Ling Ning walked over to He Miaomiao, her eyes filled with hopeful anticipation.
He Miaomiao nodded lightly, a smile tugging at her lips. “It was great. You’ve done well. Go and take a rest now. For lunch, I’ll make sure you get an extra big drumstick.”
Hearing that, Ling Ning finally let out a breath of relief. If it hadn’t worked this time, she wouldn’t have known what else to do.
Ling Ning walked slowly to the pavilion nearby. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to move faster, but the long dress she was wearing made walking difficult. Coupled with high heels, it was easy to imagine tripping and falling flat on her face, which would have been beyond embarrassing.
Since Xia You and Sister Zhou had gone to help buy lunch, Ling Ning found herself alone in the pavilion. She missed Xia You’s lap. If Xia You were here, she could have lain down and napped on her lap.
Just as she was thinking about Xia You, she appeared, carrying lunch boxes into Ling Ning’s line of sight.
Perhaps because everyone was hungry, even though it was just takeout, they all enjoyed their food, especially with the extra drumstick He Miaomiao had gotten for everyone. It tasted even better.
Ling Ning had a habit—she liked to save the best part of her meal for last. Unfortunately, that habit often led to situations like today: she was already full but still had half of the drumstick left.
Truth be told, Ling Ning hadn’t expected the portion to be so generous. She was stuffed after only half of it. She didn’t want to waste the rest, but she truly couldn’t eat another bite. So, she found herself in a dilemma.
“Ling… Ling Ning, are you not going to eat that?”
Just as she was fretting over it, Xia You approached, eyeing the remaining half of the drumstick in her lunchbox.
Ling Ning sighed, shaking her head. “I’m full. I can’t finish the rest.” Honestly, the drumstick tasted great, which was why she was so reluctant to waste it.
“Then… can I have it? I don’t know why, but I’m extra hungry today.” Xia You blushed a little, clearly embarrassed by her request.
Ling Ning glanced at the drumstick, noticing her own bite marks on it. “I already took a bite. Are you sure you don’t mind?”
Xia You nodded eagerly. In fact, to her, the real value of the drumstick was that Ling Ning had eaten from it. If it were untouched, she wouldn’t have wanted it as much.
“Alright then, it’s yours~” Ling Ning casually transferred the half-eaten drumstick into Xia You’s lunchbox.
Looking at the drumstick, still bearing Ling Ning’s tiny bite marks, Xia You suddenly hesitated. She had this odd urge to take it home as a keepsake.

In a small park pavilion, two beautiful young women sat together. One of them was lying on the other’s lap, seemingly asleep, while the other girl looked at her with an entranced expression.
Yes, it was Ling Ning and Xia You. Because of Ling Ning’s remarkable improvement that morning, the team got to take a break after lunch. Those who needed rest went back to the car to sleep, while others went to find a quiet spot in the park.
Since the car’s space was limited and Ling Ning disliked cramped areas, she had pulled Xia You along to find a place to rest. She had originally only leaned against a bench to nap, but Xia You’s lap had some inexplicable attraction—before she knew it, she was lying down on it.
This scene was seen by Zhao Dashu, who had been wandering around the park aimlessly. Without saying a word, he took out his camera and began snapping pictures.
The car was occupied by the three women, and as a gentleman, Zhao Dashu didn’t feel comfortable squeezing in. So he had taken his camera to wander around the park, hoping to take some random shots. He hadn’t expected to capture such a heartwarming moment. It was well worth the trip.

“Alright, that’s a wrap! Great work today, everyone!”
With the last group of photos taken, He Miaomiao officially announced the end of the shoot.
Ling Ning, upon hearing He Miaomiao’s words, stretched her arms lazily. She had gotten better and better throughout the afternoon, rarely needing retakes. Most of the shots had been perfect on the first try.
“Ling Ning~”
“Huh?” Ling Ning looked at He Miaomiao, her expression confused.
He Miaomiao took a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking slowly. “Have you ever thought about pursuing systematic training in modeling?”
“Systematic training?”
“Yes. You have a natural talent for this. If you undergo formal training, you could learn a lot,” He Miaomiao said seriously, her eyes never leaving Ling Ning.
Ling Ning smiled, though a bit ruefully. “I’m in my final year of high school right now. Even if I wanted to, there just isn’t enough time for that.”
“Then you could consider applying to N City’s University of the Arts. Many famous models in the country graduated from there. Y University in Y City is also a great option.”
Ling Ning shook her head, indicating that she wasn’t planning on leaving her city. She didn’t want her daughter to grow up in a completely unfamiliar place because of her own decisions. She had already made up her mind—she would apply to S University in her city.
“I see… Well, there are some excellent training programs as well. If you get a chance, I hope you’ll give it some thought,” He Miaomiao said earnestly.
Ling Ning nodded. “If the opportunity arises.”
After that, Ling Ning climbed into the car to change out of her dress. Halfway through undressing, she encountered an awkward situation: the zipper on the back got stuck and refused to budge.
She struggled for a while, ending up drenched in sweat, but the zipper wouldn’t move an inch. Eventually, she gave up and quietly cracked open the window, spotting Xia You standing not too far away.
“Xia You! Xia You!”
Hearing her name, Xia You looked around and quickly noticed Ling Ning waving from the car.
“Wh-what’s up?” Xia You asked timidly as she approached.
“Uh… the zipper on my dress got stuck. Can you come in and help me pull it down?” Ling Ning asked, her face flushed with embarrassment.
“Sure.”
After getting in, Xia You found Ling Ning sitting helplessly on the car seat. Xia You leaned in to inspect the zipper, gave it a tug, but found it firmly stuck.
“I’ll try pulling harder.”
Taking a deep breath, Xia You grabbed the zipper and gave it a strong yank. Finally, it gave way.
Hearing the sound of the zipper coming undone, Ling Ning sighed in relief. She wanted nothing more than to quickly change out of her clothes and get some fresh air—she felt suffocated. Not even considering that Xia You was still in the car, Ling Ning began changing, thinking that they were both girls, so it didn’t really matter.
In the dimly lit car, Xia You stared at Ling Ning. Her fair skin seemed to emit a soft glow, making Xia You feel a strange desire to immerse herself in that sight.
