Chapter 12: Chapter 12 All Hail World Serpent
Raven's thoughts were surging onto how to deal with this situation. Gray Serpent did warn her that it'd be possible that she'd run into Schicksal Valkryires but not the Overseer!
What type of bad luck cursed her this time, she could run away but that would mean leaving Luna behind and one thing was sure...She wouldn't abandon a child, especially in front of this man!
"Miss, are you okay? You seem a bit pale." His tone was filled with concern and worry but his smiling expression said otherwise.
"Cut the formality. You already know who I am don't you Schicksal Overseer?"
Otto's face sunken a little seeming as if he was figured out.
"Oh, it seems my outfit couldn't hide who I was...I do know of you, Miss Raven but I wanted to ease the tension...Especially because you brought a child and judging from her appearance it was from that nasty Cult."
"Something we agree on, Overseer."
"Indeed but what's a Mecenary like you doing in such a place like this...Did the Church of the Monster hire you to protect the girl or were you hired to do something else, Miss?"
"Don't associate them with me I rather do your dirty work than theirs." She said with a venomous tone hearing this.
"Thank you for the compliment. Schicksal does try to keep itself in the light, but even our organization has some gray areas." Instead of feeling offended, the Overseer kept up his smiling facade.
"That's an understatement if it's coming from you...What do you need from a lowly mercenary like me, looking to hire me for your dirty work?" She confidently spoke but underneath was simple pure panic.
"Trying to change the topic are you? I still don't understand why you're here...Natasha Cioara?"
The Mercenary let out a scowl hearing this and wasn't surprised...This was the Schicksal Overseer she was facing...She would be surprised if that man hadn't Doxxed her exact location yet.
"You already know who I am and you already found me...It's obvious you know what I want?"
'You want to play Mind Games, Overseer then so can I!' Raven piped in her mind.
Otto smiled at her and he said with a warm innocent tone, "You really are a good person!... Exposing the fact you revealed the location of that disgusting cult and trying to hide it...Are you like the modern Robin Hood? You even saved a child from the grasp."
Raven tilted her head hearing this, "What?" Her mind was starting to break down from being unable to process his words...Her mind and body sharpened to its absolute limit. If this was an attempt to lower her guard, she wouldn't fall for it!
Otto reached into his pocket and Raven immediately reacted to such an action by flinging a talon straight for his head. It didn't matter if the Overseer died after all he could be backed up...So this was just Self-Defense!
The Doctor didn't notice or care for the attack as he tilted his head to the side and it flew past him silently.
"H̴̖͔͊̔a̶̟͇͆-̷̛̜̊z̷̨̬̾-̴̘̘̈z̶̝͓̒-̵̳͍̈́͑-̸̤̖̈̀z̶̭͙̔͝."
Otto turned his head back on the sound of something flying past his face when a sudden sneaking Archangel Honkai Beast was hit by a talon and pierced into its head. It let out its dying breath with inhumane wailing.
Seeing such a sight, Otto stood still for a moment before he started to clap in amazement,
"You are the best mercenary, being able to notice this sneaking wild Honkai Beast and immediately take it out...I am tempted to offer you to join Schicksal."
Raven's mind turned blank, 'What! How! What just happened?!...Haaaaaaaaaaa!?'
"Here you go." The Overseer handed her a piece of paper and she absent-mindedly took it.
What was written was a string of addresses and a certain bank account filled with a deposit of money.
Out of her stupor, she hesitantly took the piece of people and quickly scanned it with her silted crimson eyes.
"What is this?"
"An uninhabited island and a bank account filled with a generous amount of money. You can choose to take it or not...It doesn't matter which. You'll need it for some time in the future."
"Why?" She questioned and raised her vigilance, a free lunch truly doesn't exist in the world that was what she learned as a mercenary.
Otto responded with a gentle bow and said kindly, "For your service, Kind Stranger."
The Mercenary was left speechless and flabbergasted. A sense of trouble was stirring within her mind, unable to figure out what this Overseer wanted for her. The unknown was the most terrifying thing and with Luna beside her, it would be trouble to get out of this situation.
"Cat got your tongue, Mercenary?" Otto teased but he soon felt a tug on his white coat.
It was a pale little girl with crimson eyes who was looking up at him as if he were the most delicious treat in the world
Raven's eyes widened upon such a sight, and yelled, "Luna get away from him!" The Mercenary knew if that Overseer figured out Luna's specialty and condition...he would have a field day on an interesting subject.
But her words were ignored by the child as Luna asked one simple question to the blonde man.
"Hey, Mister this might sound weird but you smell delicious...Can I sip your blood?"
Otto's eyes stutter a bit at the very similar-looking girl who had a close resemblance to his granddaughter.
'Ain't this Teri Teri Vampire from that Sanguine Nights event then came back all grown up? Damn, I guess Canon got shot up with the introduction to this Church of Monsters...I wonder how many things this World will pull up its a*s?'
"Little Miss, it's very impolite to ask someone for their blood...At least introduce yourself?"
The girl noticed and smiled brightly at this mysterious but delicious-smelling man, "I am A-872, that's what they used to call me when cultivating my blood but now I am Luna...Introduction finished. Can I suck your juicy neck now?"
Otto turned his head toward the still-glaring Raven and smiled, "Sure you can but I don't think your guardian would like that and I have a few questions of mine before I could feed you...Once I sort out these two things...You may drink me."
She smiled brightly with her fangs letting out a white tint, "Make it quick if I don't have anything red in my mouth in 10 minutes...I am biting your neck off."
Hearing her agreement he soon turned back his face toward the Mercenary.
"Miss Raven may I interview her..."
Raven twitched at his comment and remarked earnestly "I am not her Parent! But what makes you think I'll accept whatever interview you're doing? How can I be so sure it's not a scheme you're planning and a way to deceive me?"
"Very hostile aren't you? I must have done some things you might have disagreed with."
"I do have a personal vendetta against you but not to the point of it disturbing my work...Are you trying to stall for time or are you taking your sweet damn time to gain my trust somehow? I am curious about how you'll be able to pull off such a Miracle."
"Don't worry I'll be the greatest Miracle Invoker you'll ever see...Here you go!" After his sentence, Otto suddenly threw a black object towards the Mercenary.
She caught it effortlessly a took a glance at...It was a finely crafted Desert Eagle with the words, a Fool's End engraved into its base. Her crimson eyes scanned it intently to figure out if it was rigged but it wasn't.
"You're one crazy madman! What do you expect me to do with this?" Raven said in confusion.
Otto replied with a cheerful expression, "Shoot me of course. It's a reasonable agreement of trust, whenever you think I am up to something just pull the trigger."
"What makes you think, I won't blow out your brains right here, right now!?"
"Because you're an honorable Merc, after all, you did hit that Archangel behind me plus there's a young child here...Who wouldn't want me to suddenly blow their head into a Red Mist."
'Don't shoot him! Don't shoot him! Don't shoot him!' Raven repeated in her mind or she would fall victim to his provoking expertise.
With the mercenary letting out a conflicted face, she set down the gun in her hand and took a heavy breath.
"Go ask your questions but if you pull anything...Bang!"
Having her consent, Otto soon started asking questions of the young vampire. Due to Otto's absurd memory, no paper or electronic recording would be necessary.
"Age?"
"13...I think. Oh, and my birthday is on March 28."
"So born in 2000, I'll be sure to sing you Happy Birthday if I get the chance...Do you have any recollection of your childhood, Miss Luna?"
"I had a sort of kind Elder Sister when I was indoctrinated of the Church but she died trying to save me and sent me free...Her last words were my name" She somberly said.
"You didn't have to say that if you were uncomfortable with it but you have my condolences. She must have been a wonderful person...What was her name?"
"Kallen..."
'Of course it was!' Otto mocked himself, Fate was always so goddamn cruel and petty...He'll have his vengeance of course! What will Fate do when he weaves it into a piece of coal?
"May we have a moment of silence for your dearest Elder Sister then."
....
.....
...
....
The two and the tense mercenary stood silent and still for the fallen girl, who was coincidentally named Kallen.
After the warm moment between the two, Otto asked his next question.
"How do you feel about Humanity as a whole?"
Luna took some time to ponder upon the question and answered confidently, "From my experience...I think they suck. They're greedy and indifferent to those around them. I've seen their greed and darkness firsthand."
Her crimson eyes shined as if her emotions of pure disdain were showing.
"...Especially that crappy Church, constantly draining my blood and experimenting on me! They made me into a freak who craves Blood! I don't want the feeling of wanting to devour everyone in my mind and be swallowed by my regret of draining everyone alive."
A soft warm hand suddenly was placed on her head, it was gentle akin to her Sister's warmth, and soon her outrage was culled to a calm tide because of his touch.
"But I know it's wrong to think that way and...Not all humans are bad especially you and that pretty Lady...Thanks for letting me rant, it feels better when I scream at you rather than myself."
He chuckled at her words and unlatched his hand from the grumbling girl, "I get that a lot but don't I look quite suspicious coming from out of nowhere?"
"Well I don't sense any ill intent on you, and you smell like a 5-Star Course. Plus you're just like me, a person holding back their madness!"
Otto didn't rebuke but instead responded with a slight chuckle.
"Yeah, I am just a miserable wretch who is constantly fighting against threats and madness but should a child really be saying these things?"
"No, but am I a normal child...I have to drink blood before I go on a rampage to sate my bloodlust which you should do...I am not me when I am hungry." She flashed her teeth for a quick moment before smiling once again
Raven stepped back a little hearing this, "...I should have seen this coming."
Otto let out a shaky sigh. " Well, as a Doctor, I keep my promises and am committed to treating my patients. So open your mouth real wide, and you might taste a little metal—Soulium, to be exact."
"What in the hell!" Raven couldn't believe her eyes as the Schicksal Overseer shoved his right hand into the open maw of the little vampire.
Luna wickedly smiled and bit hard onto his digits. Once the sweet crimson liquid hit her tongue a sense of delicious pleasure engulfed her mind with dopamine.
The flavor was out of this world!... She had tasted the blood of many before but this was above even the Heavens and Earth! She couldn't even begin to describe it...If such flavor was taken away from her, she would murder this entire world and then herself!
"Ah!"
A feeling of emptiness devoured her body as the once-savoring fingers shoved into her mouth were now gone.
"Hmm...Your teeth are quite sharp."
He took a look on top of his still bleeding fingers dripping crimson...It wasn't real blood but simulated. His avatars although made out of Soulium could replicate the normal functions of a body which included bodily fluids.
With his left hand, he took out a handkerchief and wiped the bits of saliva and blood covering his other hand.
"I assume you are full now since you took a few ounces out of me. With my curiosity now gone I'll be leaving now. May we meet again and have fruitful cooperation Miss Cioara!" As he turned to leave once again the Bloodfiend stopped him.
"Wait! Please take me with you! My blood bag!" Luna cried out in despair. Before she could run to catch up with him, Raven blocked her way.
Raven's casual atmosphere disappeared into that of a cold-blooded mercenary and her crimson eyes starred deeply into the girl's souls but her hand gently grasped the young vampire's wrist.
"Do you realize what you're getting into kid...That man might seem kind and caring on the surface but inside is a Devil who'll do anything to achieve his goals! He's not at the level of the Church of Monsters but his morals are bordering on it..."
Luna softly unlatched the hand grabbing at her risk and gave out the same bright smile she usually had.
"Pretty Big Sis...I appreciate you saving me! But I know what I am getting into and it's not like you're a goody two shoe...I can smell it, the stench of blood coming from you...You've taken the lives of many didn't you but you still save me...So I will follow my instincts and cold-blooded beating heart to follow him!"
Raven winced at her comments but still tried to persuade her with an unmoving face.
"Luna I want you to think about this carefully...Do you want to go with him?... You can't just suddenly make a life-changing choice on a whim."
Luna stared back with indescribable eyes and without hesitation answered thoroughly.
"I do...I know you care about me and it's weird to go with a stranger who you just met but this is the choice I want to meet and if it bites me in the back...So be it. Goodbye, Miss Mercenary." Those were Luna's words as she left Raven's grasp and catcher up to the blonde doctor.
The Mercenary was left breathless on this serene beach and its usual tranquil didn't deter the amount of this one particular feeling of shame engulfing her being.
Shame she couldn't a child stop herself from getting into that grasp of that man...Being able to manipulate the entire situation into the palm of his hand while putting on a charming smile.
She didn't want to risk losing her cover, so she stood silent as she watched the pair's figures grow smaller until they disappeared from the sandy beach.
Her hand tightened onto the same piece of paper he had given her...She wanted to rip it apart into shreds and dip it into the ocean but she knew better. That Overseer wouldn't do anything meaningless! Why give her this...She would figure it out with some help.
After lingering in her thoughts she took the time to admire the scenery but it was all a spoiled sight...The feeling of being powerless and unable to do anything, she had experienced it many times before but right now...It all felt bitterly cold.
Foolish...She was reminded of the weapon in her hand and a sense of dread overwhelmed her nevertheless maybe shooting up into the sky would quill her freezing heart.
With a press of a trigger, a little flag came out of the gun barrel and the words that were displayed on its fabric were, 'Bang!'
Raven's eyes darkened upon such a sight and crushed the gun in her hand. She was hoodwinked, bamboozled, and most importantly played like a Fool!
...
A small one-story building lay within a forest near the town of Murdeshwar. It was nothing all too suspicious, and it could be seen as a cabin for passing wanderers to take refuge from the heavy weather.
One wanderer that passed through the shaded path had a black cloak covering her body and her movement stopped as she reached onto the door of the vine-covered building.
Her hand knocked on the door with a dedicated pattern.
Two Heavy Knocks, One Light Knock, and then a Single Kick to the door...It wasn't meaningless it was the great sound of a Serpent devouring its prey.
After remembering the instructions and following them properly the door in front of Raven automatically opened and what was in sight was but an empty dusty room with nothing the eye could see.
Until a latch on the floor was apparent, Raven quickly opened it and went down into it. Her feet softly touched the hard metal ground and numerous sources of light beamed into her eyes.
Numerous computer screens flashed through various images and scenes with numerous lines of code consuming it all.
The man present handling all of this was wearing an oversized hood with neon green highlight and various high-tech gizmos on it. With robotic limbs and joints on each of his body parts.
...It was the second-in-command of World Serpent, Gray Serpent, an artificial life form created by a scientist from the Previous Era. Now he was following his creator's Will to defeat the Honkai by any means necessary.
"Welcome back, Raven...I presumed you completed your objective, if not there will be some consequences." His robotic voice was cold and devoid of life.
"You're the one who hired me in the first place...Wouldn't be your fault for not fully picking the right guy or gal to do the missions?"
"Oh, perfect you didn't run too any trouble...Hand me the chalice and I'll transfer the payment."
Raven soon complied and gave him the following items along with the piece of paper.
Taking a small glance at the slip, with his "eyes" he soon looked back at the Mecernary, "I assume this is the trouble you've encountered."
She nodded and dropped the bombshell while explaining what happened, "The Schicksal Overseer physically intended the operation for dealing with the Shepard and he somehow figured out where I was...Then gave me this paper...Took the child and played me like an instrument."
"This complicates things then...I assume he took that child with him. It wouldn't matter much to me but to you...You are obliviously taken at a loss. Logical you did the right but morally you failed."
Raven scowled at his words and replied, "Which Gray Serpent are you? Most of them aren't usually this upright."
"We're a Hive Mind but we can act and think independently of ourselves. I have some certain degrees of morals but I won't hesitate to abandon a child when it is deemed logical...
You are filled with angst that you couldn't save her but it's clear that she isn't normal and if you were to take her in, you would have far more trouble, and if you decided to have the aid of World Serpent helping you take care of...
She wouldn't have a happy life, so I would say you made the rational choice...Otto Apocalypse may be our advisory but he's the lesser evil than us."
The Mercenary took a light breath, "It feels weird hearing this come from you...I hope you're the next Grey Serpent I work with."
"I am going to ignore that comment and analyze it thoroughly. The Address is indeed for a private island in Hawaii and the account is anonymous, you can keep it if you want to. The paper Isn't compromised and doesn't have any trackers...Which is surprising"
"It's a piece of paper...How would it be tracked!?" Raven commented.
"You would be surprised by the genius and stupidity of humanity."
Gray Serpent placed the suspected object on the desk where the numerous monitors flashed, and when he looked at the backside he noticed something.
"I see now how you didn't notice this...He used cheaply made invincible ink on the backside to hide the message...As expected the Overseer uses an outdated and idiotic method to deceive us."
"Just get on with it...What does it say."
His eyes shined and engulfed the paper with a flash of light to reveal what was written.
"Congrats on finding my treasure, I left it in all one place...Who am I kidding? You already knew who am I when I gave you this, Raven well I just wanted to give you a little prank that's just it but before I run out of space...There's something I have to say. Your Creator is a very dashing woman akin to a Mobius Strip wouldn't you say so, Gray Serpent?"
Complete and abhorred silence engulfed the entire hidden space
A sense of despair and anger hit Raven's thoughts...Otto already knew of World Serpent and the point of keeping her cover was pointless along with that...He has information about one of the Pioneers of the Current Era.
Her thoughts were interrupted as maniac laughter hit Raven's ears. It was a cold cynical laugh from a snake.
"Hahaha...How interesting that Overseer, he knows. But how much does he know of the World Serpent...If he truly does intend to foil our plans we have no choice but to bite back!
...Raven, you can keep the paper as a Memento. Oh right, tell me again how thoroughly was your concealment when you sneaked out of the Gopera."
The Serpent's question took Raven out of her stupor and she answered, "I went the full nine yards...Hiding my tracks, creating new ones, going through the forest, swimming through the ocean, and switching boots mid-way."
"You need to leave then...He must have a Valkryie that can use some form of Precognition or Clairvoyance or a special means of tracking us. I've already deleted everything here...All I need to do is Self-Destruct the entire place...You'll be contacted whenever you're needed again."
"Damn! You were the most pleasant Gray Serpent I ever worked with and now you're about to blow yourself up."
"We'll meet again but don't take it for granted that I am this much open-minded."
Raven immediately ran for it and up the latch, "Goodbye, slightly better Gray Serpent may the Sire witness you in a fiery explosion."
She turned her gaze back onto his mask when climbing up and she could have sworn there he was smirking.
The Witch named Gray Seprent pulled out a button onto the desk and soon slammed it down with a cold dispassionate display..."All Hail the World Serpent."
...
A blonde man and a small white-haired girl walked on the path inlaid with grass and trees shading them from the sun they soon noticed a quake of shaking for a split moment before it returned back to normal.
"What was that?" Luna asked.
With a smile, Otto replied, "Oh...Just a little prank, I cooked up."
A/N: Very sorry for my lateness, I was grinding out Limbus Company but don't worry I'll try to keep on making a Chapter each week if my mood is good...I do want to pull a LOTM and get up to 1000 Chapters with the pacing I am going...It might be possible.
