Chapter 126: Bronya
She woke up with a start
"!"
Instinctively, she reached for her weapon holster-
Only to find nothing
Not feeling the familiar and comforting grip of her gun, she froze, her eyes instantly darting to her surroundings
A simple room came into her sight. She was lying on a bed made of wood, which had a nightstand right beside it
Memories appeared in her mind as the room's appearance was processed by her brain.
-She failed her mission. Not only that, she was also captured by the person she was supposed to assasinate
With tense movements, she moved her limbs, slowly sitting up. She sat cross-legged, ready to jump and escape at any time
Had the enemy captured her? Possible. There were not any restrictions placed upon her when she awoke, so that conclusion is doubtful
Did they take her here to interrogate her? By again, her limbs weren't bound, and this room didn't seem like a torture room or a dungeon…..
There were no chains, no locked doors, and no interrogation tools in sight.
If this was an enemy stronghold, or the enemy had captured her, they were either too confident or too careless.
Her breath steadied. Her training instantly making her act with instinctive ease despite the potentially dangerous situation
Then-
The door creaked open.
She reacted instantly.
She moved like lightning, lunging toward the figure that stepped inside—with a fast, precise, and deadly ease.
Even unarmed, she knew how to strike with lethal intent. Her hand shot for his throat, aiming to crush his windpipe before he could react-
But she never made it.
A hand caught her wrist mid-swing, the grip strong but effortless.
In a blur of movement, her legs were swept from under her, her body twisting in the air before she was slammed back onto the bed with a thud.
Pain shot through her spine, but she ignored it, already moving to counter—
She gritted her teeth, trying to yank her wrists free, but his grip didn't budge.
She kicked out, aiming for his ribs. He shifted slightly, and her foot hit nothing but air. Before she could adjust, one of his legs pinned hers down, completely nullifying her ability to strike.
She struggled harder, arms straining, muscles burning.
It didn't matter how she twisted, how she fought—he had her locked down, her body refusing to obey her instincts under the sheer weight of his control.
Her breath came faster, frustration and disbelief creeping in.
How?
She had trained for years, sharpened her instincts to perfection. Yet he had read her every move like it was nothing!
That was when she got a proper look at him.
A boy.
His blond hair was slightly messy, his face carrying a look of mild annoyance rather than concern.
He held a bowl of soup in one hand, the steam rising lazily into the air. His other hand was the one pinning her down—firm, steady, and completely unaffected by her struggle.
"Yeah, maybe I should have expected this type of welcome from you…" He muttered, his voice carrying more boredom than anger. "You done trying to kill me, or do you wanna go again?"
Her breathing was uneven, her heart pounding.
She kept struggling for another second, twisting with all her strength.
"...."
Nothing.
No openings. No weaknesses.
This wasn't just luck. He wasn't just strong—he had the kind of experience that made counters like hers feel slow. Predictable. Meaningless.
"....."
Her struggles slowed, then stopped.
She wasn't getting out of this.
Her body remained tense, her mind racing through possible scenarios, but none of them ended with her escaping unscathed.
Every instinct told her to fight, to resist, yet the logic in her brain—the cold, calculating part of her that was honed with countless experiences as a mercenary—told her something else.
She had lost.
And so, with no other options, she did what she had to.
".....Fine"
She stilled.
The boy raised an eyebrow. "So….. You won't attack anymore?"
She gave him nothing in response, merely staring up at him with blankly
"Haaah"
He sighed, clearly used to dealing with stubborn people.
"Alright then…."
The blonde boy said, finally letting go of her wrists.
He stepped back, standing at the side of the bed, still holding the soup in one hand.
"Sit up."
She hesitated for only a moment before obeying.
Slowly, carefully, she pushed herself up, keeping her guard raised. Even though her body was relaxed, she was still prepared to react at any moment.
"See?" He smiled slightly. "That wasn't so hard, was it?"
She remained silent, her face as blank as ever.
"Here." Ignoring her cold demeanor, he shifted the bowl of soup towards her. "You should eat. A kid your age needs to consume a lot of calories."
"I'm not hungry."
She instantly replied, not even glancing at it.
"That so?" The boy clicked his tongue. "You're quite stubborn."
"If you don't eat by yourself….." He smirked slightly. "I might just feed you instead…"
"No."
She kept her face emotionless, but her eyes narrowed.
"Whatever"
The blond kid who easily defeated her shrugged his shoulders, as if giving up
"....."
She remained silent, her gaze unwavering.
She wasn't sure what his goal was, or why he was acting so casual…. But she wasn't going to let her guard down just because he smiled a few times and offered her a potentially drugged soup
After a moment, the blond boy set the soup down on the nightstand, then leaned back against the wall, folding his arm
"I guess we should get introductions out of the way."
His expression turned more relaxed as he nodded toward her. "I'm Adam."
She gave him a dull, uninterested look. "…Bronya."
That was it. No warmth. No extra words. She truthfully told him her name
"Wow." Adam whistled. "Your introduction was quite cold. Should I say as expected from a famous mercenary like you?"
"....."
Bronya didn't respond.
"Well…" The blond boy- Adam- just grinned. "Nice to meet you, too."
"What will happen to me?"
She asked, not paying his words any mind.
Why had they captured her?
To extract information out of her?
To sell her?
She didn't know.
"I believe you know your current situation." Letting out a sigh, he put his hands in his… pockets? "Don't worry, nothing bad will happen to you."
Smiling, Adam pointed his hand at the door
"She will explain your new… living conditions."
-As if on cue, the door creaked open.
Bronya's head snapped toward it, her body tensing on instinct.
But instead of another enemy, a tall woman with blond hair stepped inside, her heels clicking softly against the wooden floor.
Her sharp purple eyes landed on Bronya, and almost immediately, they softened.
"Bronya...." The woman spoke, her voice surprisingly gentle. "It's good to see you awake."
Bronya stared at her, eyes cold and wary.
She recognized this woman.
Cocolia.
Of course she recognized her. This woman was her mission objective- the person she was hired to kill
Her fingers twitched. Though she was wary, her present situation didn't allow her any choice
Cocolia, however, acted as if nothing was wrong. She walked closer, her expression warm—too warm. Almost… motherly.
"You don't have to be so guarded…" She said, her tone laced with amusement. "This will be your home now."
Bronya's stare hardened. "..."
What is this woman talking about?
"Oh, Bronya…" Cocolia chuckled, as if entertained by her silent resistance "I think you'll find that…. things will change from now on, for the better"
Her hand reached out, slowly, as if offering comfort. Bronya didn't move, but she didn't accept it either.
"You're taking this pretty well" Adam, still leaning against the wall, rolled his eyes. "-Considering she tried to kill you just a few hours ago."
Bronya ignored him.
"I know this is sudden." Cocolia sighed as she ignored him, retracting her hand. "And I know you're confused. But I promise you—no harm will come to you here."
"…What do you want from me?"
"Nothing," Cocolia smiled. "I just want to offer you what every child of your age should have- warm food, a safe place to call home, and…. a life where you won't need to kill in order to survive."
Bronya didn't believe her.
Not for a second.
But for now, she remained silent, her mind processing everything.
She didn't understand what was happening.
This woman's words were ridiculous
But she had no choice.
Cocolia's conditions sounded tempting. But she knew that nothing is free in this world
But…. she had to stay here
And she would.
She had no choice…. And…. She hoped that this woman's words weren't deceitful, in fact, she didn't want to, but a faint hope couldn't help but emerge in her heart
…

.
Trudging through the dreadfully silent streets of Nagazora city, was a silver-haired girl of about 14 years old
Sitting atop a large robot of advanced technology that was moving rapidly throughout the city, Bronya blankly stared at the road ahead
"Fire!"
She commanded Project Bunny-
And it instantly obeyed, shooting a beam toward the honkai beast blocking her way
The robot, called Project Bunny, continued to advance swiftly towards a specific direction- Chiba Academy, where her mission objective was located
Before she recovered the objective of her mission, she first had to find Adam
"....."
She is sure that he is not dead. After all, even if his was honkai resistance is bad, it is only worse than her own
As long as he is cautious, he should be able to survive
But….Even if Adam doesn't die instantly from honkai corruption, he could still easily die from a honkai zombie or a honkai beast.
Despite the fact that he knows martial arts and has combat experience, his body is still human, and he doesn't have something like Project Bunny to protect him
"Cocolia….."
….. Matrushka didn't keep her promise
And it seemed that-
"!"
Eyes widening, she instantly commanded Project Bunny-
Tack
Project Bunny flattened as she stood up. It vibrated, launching her sideways. She flipped through the air, her assisting exoskeleton softening her fall as she instantly appeared a few meters away from the robot
"....."
She looked at Project Bunny-
It was frozen in the air, unmoving. Binding it above the ground were countless faint white threads that entangled it tightly
Fortunately, with the life detection of Project Bunny that detected a presence nearby, Bronya had enough time to follow her instincts to respond and put some distance
Though….
"...."
Her blank face showed a frown. Without Project Bunny, she has become weaker. She might not be able to fight with the new enemy that appeared
Tap…Tap….Tap…
Loud, overbearing stepping sounds echoed throughout the deserted and dead Nagazora
It seemed that, her enemy had finally decided to show themselves.
But, with their footsteps being so loud, did they think that she would not pose a threat now that she has lost Project Bunny?
"!?"
Bronya's eyes widened, her normally emotionless face expressing utter shock at the person who just appeared
"Adam?!"
Silver hair, blue eyes, a black suit, and his hands in his pockets
Compared to the boy she knew….. This Adam was different
There was also a… blue-haired woman with a weird outfit trailing behind him?
What is going on?!

A/N:
Had to split the chapter into two... Because not only was it getting too long, but I also didn't finish the later part
