Hogwarts: Please Graduate Soon

Chapter 44: Hogwarts, Please Graduate Soon, Ch 44

In the blink of an eye, it was Monday again. In the early morning, the young wizards arrived at the dining hall for breakfast. Harry looked a bit tired because he hadn't had a good rest over the weekend after joining the Quidditch team. He had been dragged into training by Wood during the day and had to stay in his dormitory at night.

At the moment, Harry's least favorite person was definitely Snape, followed by Malfoy. Even Dudley was ranked behind these two.

Suddenly, the doors of the hall burst open, and a cacophony of noise erupted, as if hundreds of birds were fluttering their wings. The young wizards were used to this and quickly filled their bowls with food, pulling the dishes close to protect them.

Soon, swarms of owls flew in, dropping letters and packages into the arms of their recipients or into nearby soup bowls, creating a scene of chaos. The twins discreetly hid their package, which was a dung egg and a nosebleed nougat from Zonko's Joke Shop—definitely something Professor McGonagall shouldn't see.

Harry also picked up the Daily Prophet for the day and began to read.

"Caw!"

Just then, a bird call pierced the air, causing the owls to tremble; two of them flying overhead even fell directly into the soup. Everyone looked up to find the source of the sound. Suddenly, a burst of flame appeared in the air, and from it emerged a soaring phoenix, clutching two packages in its talons.

As everyone stared in disbelief, the phoenix landed next to Wayne and let go of its two packages.

"This… this…"

Cedric, who had just been enthusiastically explaining the glorious history of Charlie's Cauldron, now struggled to find his words.

"Ah? These are my packages, what's wrong?" Wayne casually set the packages down at his feet.

"No!" Cedric finally managed to recover his voice. "The point is not the packages! The point is this... this phoenix!"

Cedric couldn't contain himself as he looked at the majestic creature on Wayne's shoulder, preening its feathers. "Why is a phoenix delivering packages to you?"

He asked the question all the first-year wizards were thinking about when Professors Sprout and Kettleburn, who were trying to have breakfast at the guest table, hurried over.

Kettleburn, who was missing a leg and floated over in his chair thanks to magic, looked at the phoenix with obsessive admiration. "Look at her! How beautiful!"

"Beautiful?" Wayne raised an eyebrow and reached out to pet the phoenix's head. Compared to when it had just hatched, the phoenix had undergone a huge transformation, growing bright orange feathers with a hint of green at the tips. It definitely looked a lot better.

However, in terms of beauty... honestly, Wayne thought his pet was just okay, better than those in Pokémon, but still not quite reaching the level of beauty.

Sensing her owner's discontent, the phoenix let out a dissatisfied call and gently pecked Wayne's cheek, almost like a petulant child. It was tough for her! She was once just a chirpy bird in Wayne's eyes, and now that she had finally grown into the legendary magical creature, her owner still wasn't satisfied. What more did he want from her? Did he expect her to turn human to express gratitude?

"Mr. Lawrence, what is this phoenix?" Professor Sprout asked after observing the scene for a moment.

"The phoenix came to me a few days after I received my acceptance letter. We clicked, and it decided to stick with me," Wayne replied, casually making up an excuse, not worried that anyone would doubt him. The magical world was full of wonders and legends, and he just wanted to take this opportunity to show off the existence of the phoenix.

"Clicked?" Hearing Wayne's nonchalant explanation made Cedric's eyes turn red, and the other young wizards felt the same. At the Gryffindor table, Hermione was practically straining to get a closer look. If the professors weren't there, she would have rushed over to examine it.

This was a phoenix! Since the start of the century, people knew of only two phoenixes: one was Dumbledore's pet, Fawkes, and the other was the mascot of the Quidditch team, the Montrose Magpies—Spark. Wayne's phoenix was the third!

A first-year wizard had a phoenix as a pet? Malfoy was so envious he felt like he might crush his own teeth. His favorite magical creature was a dragon, but that didn't mean he didn't like phoenixes. Such a rare and noble magical being suited the Malfoy family perfectly. For a moment, Malfoy even thought about asking Wayne if he could buy the phoenix from him. Unfortunately, anyone who wasn't foolish would never sell it.

After hearing Wayne's explanation, Professor Sprout opened her mouth, but a question was caught in her throat, and she ultimately didn't ask it. She wanted to know if Wayne's real surname was Dumbledore. Those well-versed in the magical world knew that phoenixes appear when the Dumbledore family was in need, which aligned perfectly with Wayne's story.

Just as the hall fell into an unusual silence, another clear call rang out. However, it was not from Wayne's phoenix, but from another one.

Sensing a familiar aura (due to localized system modifications), Fawkes had flown in. He wasn't alone, as he was also tugging on the sleeve of Dumbledore, who still hadn't gotten out of bed. He was wearing pajamas topped with a comical sleep cap.

Many young wizards couldn't help but laugh because Dumbledore's pajamas were quite cute, decorated with fluffy creatures and elves.

"Fawkes, what's going on? Why the rush?" Dumbledore clearly hadn't grasped the situation yet and looked a bit dazed.

Fawkes ignored him and flew right in front of Wayne, circling him, while Wayne's phoenix joined in and soared upward, flames flickering around her. Fawkes happily called out, lowering his head in a gesture of respect. He could sense that this young phoenix had even more noble blood than he did; even though she was still in her juvenile stage, he wished to show his respect.

"Incredible…" Dumbledore finally came to his senses, watching the display of the two phoenixes, his eyes filled with deep astonishment. "Mr. Lawrence, is she your pet?"

"Of course," Wayne nodded.

"Although first-year wizards are only allowed to keep toads, rats, and owls as pets, the role of a phoenix is similar to that of an owl, serving the function of delivering messages, so it shouldn't violate school regulations, right?"

The hall fell into silence.

Cedric's fists clenched hard.

You're being so ostentatious; it's so easy to get punched!
