Harry, after letting out a slight revelation to Bathsheda Babbling, walked into the classroom where he was supposed to serve his detention.
He had no idea what Dumbledore's next step would be, but he was quite curious to find out.
Snape's attack, a serious one, against him, followed by Harry's retaliation, was not something the old coot was going to take lightly.
Meanwhile, Dumbledore was preparing his plan, and his most important priority at the moment was to ensure that the piece of Voldemort's soul inside Harry's mindscape did not take full control over it.
Harry took his seat one on the wooden chair which had been placed in the centre of the room and made himself comfortable.
It had been more than two hours when Harry heard the gates of the room being pushed opened, and in walked Dumbledore.
Dumbledore seemed a lot calmer, and to Harry, it looked as though the headmaster had come prepared to take control of the situation once again.
"Harry," Dumbledore greeted warmly, a smile on his face.
"Headmaster," Harry responded neutrally.
Dumbledore approached Harry and, with a wave of his wand, summoned a chair for himself.
He sat down and the old man was appearing to be quite relaxed.
Dumbledore remained silent for a few moments.
"Harry," he sighed—not a sigh of disappointment, but one of resignation, "what happened in the classroom should not have happened."
"It was a very serious issue," he finished. Though Dumbledore did not say it outright, he was clearly trying to place the blame on Harry and make him feel guilty of his actions.
"Yes, Headmaster," Harry agreed with a nod. "A professor attacking a student with the intent to cause serious harm is indeed a serious issue."
Dumbledore narrowed his eyes slightly but showed no outward reaction.
"Headmaster," Harry asked, "did my mother love me?"
Confused by the question, Dumbledore none the less nodded. "Yes, Harry."
"And she was a powerful witch?" Harry asked again.
"Yes, Harry," Dumbledore replied. "Why are you asking these questions?"
"I sometimes wonder," Harry said with a 'grief stricken' expression, "if my mother had been alive, would this bat have still dared to act so blatantly against me?"
Dumbledore wanted to speak especially against Harry calling Snape a 'bat', but Harry continued.
"Draco Malfoy acts so blatantly inside the campus… almost to the point of being evil, yet he gets away with all of it," he said.
"Why?" Harry asked. "Because his father is Lucius Malfoy- a rich and influential man in wizarding Britain and a board of Hogwarts governing council."
"And anyone can get away by causing me harm, because my parents are not alive?" He almost snapped.
Dumbledore fell into thought for a moment and then shook his head, "I would not say that you are completely wrong, Harry."
"But," he added, "things are not so simple…they are a lot complicated. You will understand everything when the time comes."
"Anyhow," he continued before Harry could respond, "I am not here to discuss these matters."
"I am here to discuss the problem with your scar and the reason for your unexpected and unnatural behaviour."
Harry nodded, and Dumbledore's expression turned extremely serious.
"Harry," he said, "do you know what spell struck you- your forehead, to be specific?"
"The Killing Curse," Harry replied, as inwardly he raised his eyebrows, wondering where Dumbledore was going with this.
"Correct," Dumbledore continued.
"And the Killing Curse," he said gravely, "is a very foul, very unpleasant, and very dark piece of magic."
"I believe that a fragment of the curse has somehow remained attached to your forehead," he added, "and that fragment is still affecting your mind."
"A fragment of the curse?" Harry repeated, feigning confusion, though he was inwardly amused at the direction Dumbledore was taking.
If Harry had been unaware of the truth, this explanation would have made for a fine story.
"Yes, Harry," Dumbledore replied. "You know… a lingering effect, so to speak."
"Even if a pan is removed from the fire, it remains hot for some time…"
Harry nodded but maintained a confused expression.
"I know I am not making complete sense, but have patience," Dumbledore said.
"Now, I must tell you about one more thing—mindscape," he continued.
"A mindscape is one of the most important things for a wizard or witch. It is the place where their magic is stored. It is a kind of internal realm that represents a person's mind, consciousness, or soul," Dumbledore explained. "You can think of it as a vast, dreamlike landscape where thoughts, emotions, and memories take physical form. Especially, your memories are stored in a kind of physical form."
"Do you understand what I'm trying to say?" Dumbledore asked.
Harry nodded, slightly surprised. Although Dumbledore had not given a complete and detailed explanation, he had not said anything outright wrong.
"Now, as I said, this mindscape reflects your consciousness and emotions," Dumbledore continued, "I believe that since the Killing Curse struck your forehead, it somehow penetrated your mindscape, and its lingering effects are influencing your emotions and, consequently, your behaviour."
"Due to its evil nature, you become more aggressive… more violent," Dumbledore concluded.
Harry nodded gravely, though he was struggling to keep himself from bursting into laughter. Everything seemed fine, but Dumbledore's reasoning that his mindscape had been affected just because the curse had struck his forehead was lame and ridiculous.
Although it was called a mindscape, that did not mean it was some literal space inside the mind or brain. A normal curse had no way of penetrating the mindscape. Only spiritual attacks and spells could affect it.
But fine! He now wanted to see what solution Dumbledore would offer for this problem.
