Happry Potter: The New Player

Chapter 15: The Rise of Evan Mason

After yesterday's selection ceremony, Evan became famous throughout Hogwarts; almost every Hogwarts student knew who he was.

At least the first-year students knew, Evan became a new celebrity, enjoying the same treatment as Harry when crowds are around.

The most enthusiastic roommate was Colin Creevey; after breakfast, Colin invited Evan to walk to class with him, but Evan suspected that his purpose in doing so was Harry.

He saw Colin sneakily trying to take pictures of Harry.

"Colin, if you wish, I can introduce you to Harry. It seems you adore him," said Evan.

"Yes, please, Evan!" Colin responded excitedly. "I know all about Harry Potter; everyone has told me how he survived You-Know-Who, how You-Know-Who vanished, and how he got his lightning-shaped scar. Can you ask him to show it to me?"

"It's not polite to ask, Colin," Evan felt a headache coming on speaking with this boy. "But I think he will agree."

"Really." Colin seemed to have received an early Christmas gift. "Before knowing about Hogwarts, I never knew what I would do. My father is a milkman and can't believe my brother and I are wizards, so I'm going to take a bunch of photos and send them."

"Did you know you only need to use the right developing potion to make the photos move?"

After Colin finished talking about photos, Evan invited him to be the photographer for the Magic of Hogwarts. Evan feared Colin might decline, but his fears were unfounded because Colin seemed so happy he looked like he was going to run in celebration.

When they arrived in class, everyone was already seated.

Professor Flitwick was standing on a stack of books behind the desk holding the student roster, so Evan and Colin entered quietly and sat next to Ginny.

Gryffindor and Hufflepuff were together for the lesson; Professor Flitwick taught the students how to use a wand for about an hour.

Before the lesson ended, he asked everyone to take out their wands and practice some gestures.

These things were simple for Evan, but watching Colin and Ginny practice seriously, he decided to do the same.

The next class was History of Magic, taught by a ghost named Professor Binns.

Many of the Gryffindors thought Professor Binns would be as entertaining as Nearly Headless Nick, but they were soon disappointed. In class, Professor Binns spoke in a monotone while writing various names and dates that confused some students.

When Evan arrived at the Great Hall for lunch, he met Harry at the door.

Ron looked unwell as if he hadn't recovered from the howler this morning, while Harry and Hermione whispered to each other, apparently discussing the Magic of Hogwarts.

Evan approached to greet Harry while introducing Colin.

After getting acquainted, Colin begged Harry to take a picture with him. "Maybe I should stand next to you while Evan takes the photo; can you sign it for me later?"

Harry looked a bit embarrassed at Colin and then at Evan, but before Evan could say anything, they heard someone mocking them from afar.

"Signing photos, Potter."

Draco Malfoy walked behind Colin with his cronies Crabbe and Goyle.

"Everyone in line! Harry Potter is signing photos," Draco shouted.

"I am not," said Harry angrily as he clenched his fist.

Evan noticed Ron and Hermione getting nervous and ready to confront Malfoy.

"Shut up, Malfoy!" Ron shouted.

"You're jealous!" Colin said in a high voice.

"Jealous?" Malfoy narrowed his eyes; he didn't need to shout again as everyone in the hall was listening. "Jealous of what? Of an ugly scar, no thank you, I don't think cutting your head off makes you special."

After hearing Draco's words, Crabbe and Goyle began to laugh.

"Eat slugs, Malfoy!" exclaimed Ron, pulling out his wand angrily, he had repaired it with magical tape.

"Stop, Ron!" whispered Hermione.

Once Crabbe and Goyle saw Ron's wand, they laughed again and began cracking their knuckles.

"Be careful, Weasley!"

Malfoy mocked, "You shouldn't get into trouble again, or your mother will take you out of school if you misbehave!"

Malfoy imitated Mrs. Weasley's voice, causing a group of five Slytherin students to burst into laughter.

"Weasley wants an autographed photo, Potter!" said Malfoy with a mocking smile, "It should be worth more than your house."

Harry angrily drew his wand, Evan thought for a moment and also drew his wand. The Gryffindor and Slytherin students beside them also drew their wands.

"What's going on? What's going on?" Gilderoy Lockhart ran towards them in a set of green robes, "Who's autographing photos?"

Harry wanted to explain, but Lockhart pushed him aside and said, "Come, Harry!"

Harry was pushed aside by Lockhart, watching Malfoy proudly return to the crowd.

"Come on, Mr. Creevey," said Lockhart, "You and I in a photo together, both autographing them."

Colin clumsily took the camera as he took the picture.

Evan quickly entered the Great Hall, Hermione and Ron followed him angrily as Ron continued talking about Malfoy.

Harry was dragged aside by Lockhart, wondering what they were saying, and a few minutes later Harry returned with a completely red face and sat beside Ron.

"You could probably fry an egg on your face!"

"Let's hope Creevey and Ginny don't meet, because if they do, they'll form a Harry Potter fan club," said Ron.

"Don't be ridiculous, Ron," Harry feared hearing the words "Harry Potter fan club."
