But only she knew the truth — joining the Mercenary Guild had completely transformed her life.

No longer did she have to worry about money or flatter clients to hit her targets.

The best news was that her mother's surgery had been a great success yesterday.

Dr. Levi, the renowned physician from Bluewater Medical University, had performed the operation himself.

Claire knew all of this was thanks to Alexander.

Sometimes, she wondered, if she'd tried a little harder to get closer to him when they were roommates — maybe even tried to seduce him — would her life be even more different now?

As Claire walked up to her rental apartment, she noticed, surprised, that the door was slightly open.
