Glass Manipulating Villain

Chapter 8: Asherborne.

Far away from Johnathan and the orcs, in a massive mansion, one young man, similar to Johnathan's age walks around the grand and luxurious garden of the manor.

His dark blue eyes are dull and lifeless, and his cold face betrays the innocence of youth a child of this age might have. His hair is well-kept, but like his face, seems to be plastic... Without substance.

'Experiment number 657 was a failure as well... There really seems to be no material capable of handling the temperatures...', he thought as he walked mindlessly through the beautiful garden, not paying any attention to anything apart from his own thoughts.

"Young master, Harris! your lunch has been prepared...", a feminine voice called out to the boy.

He shook his head at the maid and gestured that he'd return in a few minutes.

This boy was Harris Asherborne. The future inheritor of the Asherborne duchy. And also... The main character of the novel.

Harris Asherborne was no ordinary noble boy. He was originally from Earth... an aerospace engineer who had died a horrible death in a jet-related accident.

He was reborn into this world as "Harris Asherborne"... and his special power... was the ability to control all temperature.

He was the sole creature in this entire world who could freely manipulate thermodynamic magic.

Born into one of the richest households in the world, with a face as handsome as Roman sculptures, he had all the time he could ever need to practice his thermodynamic magic, and so naturally, he was unbelievably strong and lethal by the ripe age of 15.

Unlike Johnathan, however, he had no idea that this world was actually the world of a novel. To him, no "future knowledge" existed.

'Uncivilized barbarians.', he would think whenever he saw any citizen of this world. To him, they were all dirty and barbaric, with no sense of hygiene or proper education. He hated everyone and everything.

But... he was intrigued by the existence of this new force called "magic" that he and so many others could control and conjure up impossible phenomena with relatively no problem.

He had already gotten strong enough to generate thousands of kelvin of temperature for short spans of time, maybe a few seconds. For consistent heating, he had to settle for a much lower hundreds of kelvin.

Currently, he was working on developing a material that could be controlled using thermal signals. Perhaps a metal that changed shape and form on reaching varying thresholds of temperature? He had lots of ideas on what he could accomplish with such a thing. It was plausible in theory, but of course, in practice, it proved to be much more difficult. Regardless, he kept pushing through the experiments with various types of metals, some metals he had never seen before on Earth.

He learned a lot of information about metals and magic and how certain metals conduct magic and temperature etc. at this point. He was an engineer at heart.

He trudged to the mansion's dining hall for lunch. He hated such a big place, to him it was all so very impractical. But he had no choice but to comply with his family.

"Harris...", another feminine voice called out to him in a loving tone.

"... Annabelle.", Harris replied, his face putting on a fake smile and his eyes filling with crocodile emotions.

"You're always so busy these days... why don't you come over from time to time? You know, I miss my fiance's touch these days...", she said shyly.

'Fucking disgusting.', Harris thought internally. Even though he was 15 in his body, in his mind, he was around 35.

"Haha, you know that'd be unbecoming of a nobleman...", regardless, he declined his fiance's proposal with humility.

"Mmmmhhhh... Come on, no one needs to know... Just once? Tonight?", she kept insisting.

"Annabelle. I take my duties as a nobleman very seriously. I won't let anyone take that away from me, not even my own fiance.", he replied sternly.

To this, Annabelle smiled warmly and said, "That just makes you even more attractive..."

Anyhow, they both walked to the lunch hall.

In Harris's mind, he needed to conduct another experiment soon. He had discovered a new metal that showed promising properties. If his theories and calculations were correct, this metal would allow him to create the "perfect alloy" he had always dreamed of—an alloy with the ability to change shape, volume, rigidity, and conductivity all simultaneously, simply in response to temperature signals.

The thought of this made Harris giddy with excitement. In the lunch hall, he smiled more than usual.

"But this metal is quite rare... the only sustainable source of it would be a level 7 dungeon—specifically, a dungeon with a dragon. Hmm... will I have to create a dragon farm for this in the long run? Perhaps... Oh well, we'll see what happens," he mused.

If anyone were to hear even a single word of his thoughts, they would likely think Harris was a madman. "Dragon farm" are two words that seemed unfathomable when placed side by side. Yet to Harris, it was a viable solution to a significant problem.

"I want a stable supply of all the metals I've worked with. Even though I failed at my goal of creating the alloy, I learned a great deal about the properties of several useful metals. Maybe I'll ask 'Father' to buy me a mine... I do need this world's currency too... Ugh, so many things to worry about. Haha, it's like I'm playing Factorio all over again—only this time, in 3D... first-person... and with hyper-realistic graphics. Actually, that's not a bad way to look at this world."

And so, Harris Asherborne's plans finally began to unfold.
