Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Sumeru's Cyno

"That's Klee, our Knights' Spark Knight. She's... uh, currently locked up by Jean because she tried to replace the Ludi Harpastum's shuttlecock with her bombs," Kaeya explained to Bai Luo, wiping some cold sweat from his forehead.

It wasn't entirely because of Klee. It was more because of Bai Luo's abilities.

One of the Fatui Harbingers had already made his way to the confinement room, and yet none of the knights even noticed. Polto and Ato, who were on guard, were skilled observers, so it was nearly impossible for someone suspicious to slip in unnoticed.

According to Klee, who bumped into Bai Luo, she didn't even realize she had hit two living people. She thought she had run into the ghost from one of Kaeya's stories. Reflecting on Bai Luo's earlier threats, they realized they had underestimated this Harbinger from Snezhnaya.

"Your Mondstadt's way of educating children... is quite something," Bai Luo couldn't help but mock after glancing at the now-quiet confinement room.

Little did he know, Collei, standing beside him, had a change in her expression.

You're one to talk.

If it weren't for the mysterious combat skills she learned as a child, she probably would've been long gone—taken down by slimes or hilichurls.

"The guest from Sumeru is in the library. I'll take you there," Kaeya smiled, offering no further explanation.

A single day wasn't enough to clear all the mechanical birds, so some of the wild creatures outside were still causing trouble. Fortunately, the mechanical birds within Mondstadt's city walls had been dealt with, and Jean, along with a group of knights, had intercepted them before serious harm was done.

However, Jean and the knights couldn't return for the time being, so Kaeya, as the acting Grand Master, had to handle things temporarily.

The Knights of Favonius were in a fragile state right now, unable to withstand any further hits. That's why Kaeya took the initiative to lead Bai Luo to the library, in case something unexpected happened.

As for whether he could stop Bai Luo if things went south... well, he would at least try.

The library occupied a large space within the Knights' headquarters, even bigger than the main hall outside.

Aside from the massive chandelier hanging in the center, the rows of bookshelves were lit by small wall lamps.

These lamps weren't candles, but Fontaine's advanced technology. Though they were quite expensive, the Knights decided they were worth it, given how precious the books were.

As the Knights' library, this place held a special status, considered the largest library in Mondstadt. It contained not only ancient and obscure texts but also martial arts novels from Liyue and light novels from Inazuma. There was even a book titled "A Study of Hilichurl Customs."

After bringing Bai Luo and Collei to the library, Kaeya left.

The Ludi Harpastum was keeping him busy, and if Bai Luo weren't a special case, he wouldn't have personally shown them the way.

Unlike Bai Luo, who barged in without a second thought, Collei was more polite. Before entering, she at least knew to knock on the door.

And it made sense—Bai Luo had very few opportunities to enter places through doors in recent years.

He was more accustomed to climbing balconies or windows.

"Did that guy take us to the wrong place?" Collei asked, tugging on Bai Luo's sleeve as she worriedly watched him flip through a book titled "The Fox of the Dandelion Sea."

After entering, they hadn't seen a single person.

But soon, something else caught her eye: jars and bottles that looked familiar.

She had seen things like this during her time wandering Sumeru.

Only scholars were allowed to possess such items.

For a street kid like her, even looking at them for too long was a luxury, let alone touching them.

These containers were filled with brightly colored liquids, tempting her to reach out and touch them.

"Don't!"

Just as her hand was about to touch one, a voice came urgently from the other side of the bookshelf.

"That's a magical potion that turns people into animals. It's only temporary, but I don't think you'd enjoy the experience."

"..."

Anyone else might have doubted the truth of those words, but not Collei. She had witnessed such magic firsthand.

During her time wandering, she had encountered some awful situations.

For instance, certain cruel people would use potions to turn street kids into dogs, rabbits, or goats and make them perform or beg on the streets.

If it weren't for her illness and her agility, Collei might have met the same fate as those children.

Eventually, scholars from Sumeru discovered this behavior and dealt with it harshly.

The scholar who leaked these potions was permanently exiled from the Akademiya, labeled as a heretic.

"Ah, you're the one from earlier..." After her brief fright, Collei recognized the person before her. His unique appearance made him hard to forget.

"You can call me Cyno. My master sent me to help Lisa treat your illness," Cyno explained, holding up a letter with a wax seal.

Cyno barely glanced at Bai Luo, focusing entirely on Collei, who had been injected with the archon residue.

Cyno had encountered others like her before, but never anyone like Collei, who showed no signs of corruption.

In fact, the residue seemed to be suppressed within her.

Is it because of him?

Cyno's gaze shifted back to Bai Luo.

Suppressing the archon residue—unless... unless he was a Harbinger, wielding power granted by an Archon, and not just any power—strong power. Otherwise, the residue wouldn't be so submissive.

"You mentioned earlier that her condition wasn't good. Could you elaborate?" Bai Luo casually picked up the potion Cyno had warned could turn people into animals, seemingly unbothered by any potential effects.

"The Archon's residue has spread throughout her body. If we remove them all, her body would be like an empty shell, and she wouldn't survive. So... we can only seal them, letting them sleep within her."

It wasn't exactly good news, but it wasn't the worst. At least it provided a solution for her condition.

"Collei, what do you think?"

As her "guardian," Bai Luo didn't give his opinion but instead turned to Collei.

"I understand. Please seal them," Collei agreed to Cyno's suggestion without much hesitation.

Having been tormented by the residue for so many years, she knew firsthand how terrifying they were. Even sealing them was a relief.

"Now's not the time," Cyno said, glancing at the night sky. "Night is when Archons are most active. If we seal them now, an unimaginable disaster could occur. Even suppressed, the residue' retaliation is beyond mortal comprehension. Let's meet at Starsnatch Cliff tomorrow at 10 AM."

"Alright, I'm counting on you," Collei said.

After agreeing on the time for the seal, Collei intended to leave with Bai Luo, but noticed he hadn't moved.

"Hey, Cyno, can we discuss something?" Bai Luo asked, watching as Cyno prepared to return to his research.

After a moment of hesitation, Cyno nodded.

What the two of them talked about that night, not even Collei knew.

Kaeya only knew that when Bai Luo left, Collei was no longer by his side.

Instead, he was carrying a small, bandaged kitten in his arms.
