Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Yu's Soul
Yu sat at the top of the massive tree, gazing into the distance at his gradually greening homeland. His posture resembled that of someone perched on a tongue, like Pain—if only it were raining, the scene would be complete.
He raised his head and stared at the sun for a moment.
"So boring, so boring… I have no idea what to do." Yu's expression grew vacant, and with a slight tilt of his body, he plummeted straight down.
A dark figure crashed into the ground, sending nearby pedestrians flying from the shockwave.
Yu pried himself out of the dirt and inspected his arms. The left one was broken, and so was the right. Without hesitation, he bit his arm, unleashing an immense surge of Dendro energy. In moments, two brand-new arms sprouted in place.
Yu couldn't help but think—being inhuman had its perks.
"Yu, since you're so bored, why not take a walk or learn something from your mother?"
Yu turned around to find Nabu Malikata, the Goddess of Flowers, standing behind him. He couldn't help but feel puzzled—why was she seeking him out?
Yu wasn't particularly fond of this Goddess of Flowers. Sure, she was beautiful, with a sweet voice and a penchant for wearing minimal clothing that revealed her midriff. She was an excellent dancer too. But what bothered him was her constant companionship with his mother—and the things she said…
"Wait, why are you speaking normally today? Weren't you supposed to say something like, 'Oh, child of the forest, if you find yourself bored, you should roam the land and bask in the world's beauty'?"
Indeed, this Goddess of Flowers usually spoke in such a manner, likely due to the nature of her role. As a guiding figure, she naturally inclined toward philosophical language, resulting in every word sounding drenched in wisdom.
Nabu: … "So, you have manners, but choose not to use them?"
Yu: …
"Forget it. See you later. I just remembered something I need to do."
With that, Yu launched himself like a cannonball, disappearing into the distance.
The Goddess of Flowers watched Yu's retreating figure, lost in thought.
As a race created by the Primordial One, her people harbored a deep-seated hatred for the Second Throne. Nabu had even considered using the Scarlet King in a grand scheme to confront them, yet she couldn't bring herself to destroy him completely. Instead, she sought out the Lord of Wisdom to preserve the kingdom's future. However, Yu… Yu was an anomaly beyond her expectations. She couldn't fathom how someone with Dendro powers, who wielded seeds, could behave like a maniac who attacked others with wooden sticks!
A fierce and unyielding child of the forest would show no mercy to others. The forest could be compassionate, yet equally ruthless.
Especially when Yu spoke of his so-called "dark forest." He was like a cold, hyper-rational monster.
The Goddess of Flowers recalled a suggestion Yu had once made: "Wipe out all the nearby gods. Leave none behind. As for their people—keep those who are obedient and eliminate the rest." How could anyone say such things with a straight face?
And then she realized something strange—Yu's soul wasn't symmetrical. Though complete, it had an odd disparity: the left side was bright, while the right side was dark. What kind of situation was this?
If he became involved in her plans, his presence would be catastrophic. She needed to develop a contingency plan.
One day, Nabu Malikata approached the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata.
"Oh Lord of Wisdom, are you aware that your child's soul is unusually sharp?"
"I know. His soul is unbalanced—one side is excessively bright, while the other is excessively dark."
"Oh Lord of Wisdom, please explain the reason behind this anomaly with your boundless wisdom."
Greater Lord Rukkhadevata was in a good mood. See, now this was what cultured conversation sounded like—eloquent, refined, and respectful. She enjoyed conversing with someone like this, someone who was pleasant to listen to and pleasant to look at. Unlike her son, whose mind was always occupied with either farming or fighting. When he wasn't doing either, he simply shut down entirely, to the point where even mind-reading yielded nothing.
"Based on my research, the soul resides in the brain. My analysis indicates that the brain is divided into two hemispheres, each with distinct functions. The left side governs logic and reasoning, while the right side governs emotion and creativity. Creatures with a more developed left brain excel at judgment, analysis, and logic, making them more rational, whereas those with a more developed right brain possess greater artistic aptitude and are more emotionally driven."
The Goddess of Flowers asked, "And?"
"Indeed, he has some emotional deficiencies. I've been trying to resolve this issue, but it's like searching for a single leaf in a vast forest."
"Oh Lord of Wisdom, has he ever smiled?"
"He's shown anger and sadness, but never joy. To be honest, I've never seen him smile. What's peculiar is that he does possess a sense of humor, though it's not very expressive."
"Oh Lord of Wisdom! I believe that the child of the forest needs to experience the tenderness of the mortal world."
"You mean?"
