Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Variety Of Mushrooms
Amidst the vast sea of sand, several oases dotted the landscape like emeralds embedded in a crown, bringing life to this desolate expanse.
Greater Lord Rukkhadevata took out a complete set of green attire—green shirt, green pants, green shoes, and… a green hat.
Yu stared at the all-green ensemble, speechless.
Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, like a little girl carefully dressing up her favorite doll, fussed over Yu's appearance. Yu, looking at the beautiful woman before him, couldn't help but smile awkwardly, a blush creeping up his face from embarrassment.
"M-Mother, what are you doing?"
"What are you blushing for? Why is your face so red? Let me take a look…"
Seeing that there was no one else around—no devotees in sight—Rukkhadevata abandoned her usual air of wisdom and dignity, behaving more like a mischievous child playing with a toy. After all, it was her first time being a mother, and she was eager to figure things out properly.
…
"Greetings, Your Highness!" Two dark-skinned farmers called out to Yu in loud, hearty voices.
Dressed in green from head to toe, Yu had arrived at a wheat field. The greenish stalks swayed gently in the wind. He crouched down, inspecting the field closely.
"The wheat says it's thirsty."
"Yes, Your Highness! We'll water it right away!"
"Wait!" Yu's face darkened. "If you water it every time it's thirsty, you'll spoil it. I can sense this field's arrogance—it's starting to annoy me. Water it tomorrow night. Don't worry, it won't die."
Ever since Yu was born, his first notable skill was farming.
For some reason, he had an innate passion for agriculture. Combined with an inexplicable wealth of agricultural knowledge in his mind, he could drastically increase Sumeru's crop yields. Rukkhadevata had been pleasantly surprised by this unexpected talent.
Every god had their unique authority, but Yu's powers left Rukkhadevata baffled. Despite thorough investigation, she couldn't figure out the nature of his authority. Yu excelled at farming, could understand the voice of nature (including plants), and possessed immense physical strength.
Yet, his precise divine authority remained unclear. Unlike Rukkhadevata's abilities, Yu couldn't read minds, weave dreams, manipulate the World Tree, or wield knowledge directly.
…
Well, he did possess knowledge, but it was peculiar.
He couldn't perceive ley line movements, but he knew how to double crop yields. He didn't know how to control elemental power, yet he could predict weather patterns and even the awakening cycles of underground insects.
"Big brother Yu!"
A young boy ran up, holding a handful of mushrooms.
"Which of these mushrooms are poisonous, and which aren't?" the boy asked earnestly.
Yu stared at the mushrooms, falling into deep thought. What should he do? He didn't know! Just then, he noticed a nearby chicken coop.
"Feed the mushrooms to the chickens. If a chicken dies, it's poisonous—don't eat it then."
"And if the chicken doesn't die? Wouldn't that be a waste of mushrooms?"
"Then cook the chicken and mushrooms together. Voila—chicken and mushroom stew."
The boy blinked, nodded slowly, still a little confused.
Determined to figure out the properties of all mushrooms, Yu resolved to eat every type himself. As a god, he figured he could handle it.

A small tale, a thousand years later:
"Traveler, when eating mushrooms in Sumeru, remember the 'Three Rules,'" Tighnari advised Lumine.
"What rules?" The blonde-haired girl looked puzzled.
"First, cook the mushrooms thoroughly. Second, familiarize yourself with the mushroom species. And most importantly, know the way to the nearest doctor."
"Huh?" Paimon scratched her little head in confusion.
Tighnari handed them a book titled Sumeru's Comprehensive Mushroom Guide.
Paimon opened it, and Lumine leaned in to read.
"'Red Cap Mushroom' (accompanied by an illustration): exceptionally delicious when roasted, requiring no seasoning. However, consuming it will result in death within two to three hours for ordinary humans. Those with a Vision may attempt it."
"'Duplication Mushroom' (illustrated): after consumption, objects will appear to multiply—one becomes two, two become four, as if you've mastered cloning. Not lethal, but disorienting. Mild flavor, best for stews. Remember to seek medical attention afterward."
"'Color-Changing Mushroom' (illustrated): causes the world to appear in inverted colors—black becomes white, green becomes red. Despite the side effects, it's incredibly tasty (highly recommended). For the flavor alone, it's worth altering colors. Seek medical attention and take some antidote afterward."
"'Joyful Mushroom': induces extreme euphoria, as if little angels are dancing around your head. Seek medical help immediately."
"'Dreamscape Mushroom' (illustrated): true to its name, its flavor is dreamy. After eating it, people might start speaking in floating text or see little red figures. Again, seek medical help."
Paimon flipped through the rest of the book, finding that most mushrooms listed were poisonous, yet many were still recommended for consumption.
"Who wrote this book? Did they really eat every mushroom themselves?" Paimon exclaimed, glancing at the author's name—King of Shinro.
"Indeed," Tighnari confirmed. "The King of Shinro personally tested every mushroom, documenting human reactions based on precise formulas. That's why Sumeru citizens have such a craze for mushrooms. Skilled scholars can even identify mushroom species based on the hallucinations they induce."
"Tighnari, you must be really busy in Sumeru City."
"Not just me. Among all the Darshans, Amurta is the liveliest. There's always work to be done. Besides treating the general public, we often have to treat our fellow scholars."
"Are the mushrooms really that good? So good that Sumeru citizens would risk their lives to eat them?" Paimon and Lumine were flabbergasted.
"They truly are a delicacy. But as a doctor, I wouldn't recommend you try them," Tighnari said solemnly.
