Chapter 16: Chapter 16: We Are The Six Paths of Reincarnation
Upon seeing Guizhong being dragged away, Yu suddenly remembered she had entrusted him with a peculiar task.
Yet, Yu felt this task was not just unreliable—it was absurdly reckless. Drugging the Geo Archon? Whose genius brain came up with that? Yu figured that even if they soaked Morax in a cauldron of potent elixirs for days, the Archon would emerge as unyielding as ever, should he choose to resist.
Therefore, Yu made a bold, heretical decision: he would alter the plan.
Summoning a few Yakshas over, he began briefing them.
"Brother Yu, isn't this mission tantamount to assassinating the Archon?" the youngest Yaksha, Alatus, questioned immediately.
The others—Bonanus, Bosacius, and Indarias—echoed his concerns.
"According to Lady Guizhong, this is all for bolstering Liyue's forces with more gods. Look at me—I'm already the newly-born second-generation god. It's all for the sake of Liyue, so I'm asking you to make a little sacrifice," Yu explained with an air of nonchalance.
"What's the new plan, then?" Bosacius asked.
"The original plan was to drug Morax, but that's obviously ridiculous. So, I'm improvising."
"And now?"
"Well, even if we did manage to drug Morax, it wouldn't do much, so we'll have to target Lady Guizhong instead. I know of a certain drug—if a woman takes it and doesn't, you know… Never mind, that's irrelevant. Our objective is simple: we create a diversion to lure Morax away, and then we drug her."
"Brother Yu, isn't this plan even more unreliable?" Bonanus, the water Yaksha, voiced her doubt.
"But it's at least somewhat feasible."
"Still, we can't defeat the Archon. Only you can hold your ground against him, and what about disguises? He'll recognize us instantly by our elemental powers."
"No worries," Yu assured them. "I'll lend you my power. Since arriving here, I've grown stronger. As for disguises…" He paused, speaking with earnest seriousness. "You know I can absorb the remnants of fallen gods, right? The total mass doesn't change—it's just transferred from one form to another."
Suddenly, black miasma began to emanate from Yu's body. His white hair floated ominously, and crimson glints flickered in his eyes, making him look like a villain straight out of a nightmare.
The Yakshas instinctively grew wary, some even frightened by this transformation. Yu's current appearance bore an uncanny resemblance to a Yaksha consumed by madness.
"Brother Yu, won't absorbing so much residual godly energy harm your body?" someone asked cautiously.
Yu considered it briefly before replying, "Not at all. Perhaps I'll occasionally leak a bit of rage, but that's not important right now. Let's focus on the plan. I'll envelop you in godly resentment, altering your appearances. Brace yourselves for some pain."
With that, he produced several dark-green needles.
"What are those?"
"Just a little invention of mine. These will channel a constant flow of pure elemental energy into your bodies. You Yakshas suffer from limited elemental reserves, forcing you to conserve energy in battle. With these, you can go all out without worrying about running dry. I can handle the strain."
"And they also allow synchronized communication among us. Hand over your weapons—I'll enhance them, too."
Donning a large bamboo hat, Yu turned to face the others, who had similarly covered their faces with hats. He pulled out a wooden spike, infused it with godly resentment, turning it jet-black, and unsheathed a never-before-used Vortex Vanquisher, also dyeing it black.
"Everyone clear on the plan?"
"Understood."
"Who are we?"
"We are the Six Paths of Reincarnation—we move as one!" they declared in unison.
"Move out."
---
Later, Zhongli walked alongside Guizhong through the quiet streets at night. Without warning, an anomaly appeared—a tiger-shaped water apparition materialized and lunged at them, emanating a powerful aura of resentment.
"Rejection of calamity."
Zhongli swiftly raised his shield, and the water apparition shattered upon impact, dissolving into a harmless puddle.
"Who's there?" he demanded, voice calm yet commanding.
A petite figure emerged from the shadows, her face obscured by a large hat.
Bonanus was trembling with anxiety—after all, they were facing the Geo Archon himself! Yet she had no choice but to play her role.
The woman crouched, placing her hand on the ground. A large water bubble rose and burst, revealing five figures within.
"We are the Six Paths of Reincarnation. We've come to end you," the leader declared coldly.
The other Yakshas couldn't help but feel that their entrance was rather cool, despite the circumstances.
Zhongli's gaze swept over the group, pausing momentarily on a figure with four arms. Though it seemed familiar, the aura was completely different, so he dismissed the thought.
The leader unsheathed a sinister-looking sword and charged at him.
Summoning his black-tassel spear, Zhongli placed Guizhong behind him, shielding her, and prepared to engage. Regrettably, they were in a residential area, or he would have unleashed Dominus Lapidis without hesitation.
Sparks flew as blade clashed with shield. Yu barely managed to dodge Zhongli's counter-thrust, feeling distinctly uncomfortable—dodging wasn't his usual style.
Suddenly, Alatus conjured a fierce gust of wind, propelling both combatants apart. Yu scrambled to hold onto his hat, muttering curses at his troublesome teammate.
Bosacius, acting on instinct, grabbed a nearby comrade and hurled them towards Zhongli, aiming for an unguarded strike.
---
Out in the wilderness, the six coordinated their efforts. Among them, only Yu could effectively break through Zhongli's shield, making him the primary attacker.
Bosacius adopted his makeshift role as a living catapult, launching his siblings at Zhongli whenever an opportunity arose. Despite their coordinated assault, Zhongli's shield kept reappearing after every breach.
Yu gritted his teeth. Fighting him feels like punching a stone wall—unyielding and infuriating. Every strike shook his hands painfully.
"Enough!" Yu growled. "We can't let him summon another shield. Time to end this!"
With a sudden burst of speed, he closed the gap, grappling Zhongli tightly.
"Hit him with everything you've got!"
A barrage of elemental attacks rained down upon the two.
When the dust settled, Yu found himself held aloft by Zhongli, used as a living shield to absorb the onslaught.
"You're kidding me! I've never seen a more despicable teammate strategy! Finish this already!"
"Behold the power of our Six Paths Unified Art!" Yu roared.
Alatus summoned a mighty whirlwind, while Yu hurled Zhongli into it. Bonanus and Indarias infused it with water and fire, creating a volatile storm. Finally, Menogias encased the whirlwind in layers of rock, forming a massive boulder that he kicked skyward. Yu, seizing the moment, unleashed a slash of dark energy, splitting the sky.
"In front of us, cunning is futile!"
"Brother Yu, why say that?"
"Because it sounds cool."
---
"Retreat before we're all killed! I'll handle the drugging," Yu commanded as they made their escape.
Thus, the farce ended with Zhongli's robes tattered and only his undergarments intact.
Watching the flushed-faced Guizhong, Zhongli sighed. "For the sake of Liyue, please bear with this… indignity."
