Chapter 18 - Once again, Adventure
When Jinguji’s coercive demand was rejected, Vice President Nanami came forward and lowered his head, asking for cooperation.
It’s a technique often seen in detective dramas, where an assertive young detective does their thing, and then a veteran detective comes in, soothing and coaxing to elicit a confession.
The use of cheap psychological negotiation tactics in their words and actions is irritating
I’ve read books on psychology, too, and I’d like to tell him to stop fooling around, but I can’t just kick his ass in town where negative behavior is forbidden.
Nanami’s face looks tired as he pleads with me for help. The Shuichi Nanami I knew would have been a more perfect and relaxed man.
I felt a little sorry for him, because Seki and the others are safe because they are the ones keeping the peace, and for that reason, I should teach him the bare minimum.
“Okay. I won’t join the student council, but I’ll at least tell you where the traps and monsters are if that’s all right.”
“Thanks for the help, Shinjo Wataru-kun, I really appreciate it…”
Perhaps the last words he let slip were Nanami’s true feelings.
On the ninth day of Genocide Reality, it seems that even Shuuichi Nanami, who has been playing the role of a perfect leader, may be starting to let his mask slip.
Nanami’s actions, like giving coins to the weak who can’t leave the city, are probably his own decisions since Jinguji would never say such things.
No matter how hypocritical it might be, one thing is certain: it’s an act of goodwill. And Nanami has to suppress the dissatisfaction that erupts from his decisions by playing the perfect leader in front of over 120 survivors.
I can’t help but be amazed at how willingly he carries such a heavy burden.
The map Nanami handed me was written in a notebook, but it was in tatters.
“That’s a terrible map, was this written by fuzzy-head?”
“Yes, Mikagami Ryuji wrote it for me, it’s the only information we have…”
The locations of traps and monsters on the map drawn by the fuzzy head were so sketchy that the lower the floor, the more mistakes there were.
If you trusted this thing and continued, there would have been a growing number of casualties.
I tried to make careful corrections with a red pen, but it quickly turned completely red.
After all, I am the administrator of one of only three strategy sites in Japan. Once I started the mapping process, I started to get into the swing of things.
“Why is this path so crooked? Couldn’t you have used a ruler? I have to rewrite it all!”
“I’m sorry, I really appreciate it.”
I gave them detailed information, but I only wrote down the third floor where they could earn money for their survival.
Of course, I didn’t tell them about the Garden, which is a safe hiding area, or where they can get rare items, which I prefer to keep secret.
But I had to make sure they could earn at least a decent amount of gold coins, or else people would really starve to death.
Even I, a heartless man, am not happy about people dying for nothing.
After fixing the map, Nanami thanked me repeatedly and left.
“Phew… I hope you’re satisfied with this for now and don’t get involved with me.”
“Shinjo-kun, what?”
Seki, who has a good ear, asks back, perhaps having heard me mumble in a small voice.
“No, it’s nothing. Hey, Seki, are you thinking of leaving town?”
“What do you mean?”
“There’s a safe zone underground. It’s safer than being in town, and I thought it might be better for you there.”
“Ummm, I still have things to do in the city, and I want to help everyone in any way I can.”
He wants to help everyone, yes, Seki was that kind of guy.
I wished I could use the secure garden to hide Seki, but he wasn’t the kind of guy who would appreciate being in a safe place by himself.
“But, and I’m not kidding about this, I think I’ve turned Jinguji against me this time. Is it really not a problem for you to be in town?”
I don’t know what’s going on in town or on the upper floors of the dungeon.
If there is any danger, I would take Seki to the garden, even if I had to rope him in.
“I see, Shinjo-kun has every right to be worried. But don’t worry, the Student Council: Supervisory Staff(SS) isn’t that strong.”
“What do you mean it’s not strong?”
He was going on like he was controlling the student council, but was that a bluff too?
“They control the gold coins they hand out, so the general students are scared of them, but the strongest people who are adventuring with Nanami, like Mikami Naotsugu, don’t think well of Jinguji-kun’s methods, so they won’t move.”
“I see, Mikami the Unrivalled.”
I’ve only talked to him once since coming to GenoReal, but it’s true that his single-minded personality doesn’t seem to get along with Jinguji’s.
Come to think of it, when I saw Nanami’s party, it was a bunch of athletic guys. Don’t those guys have Jinguji breathing down their necks?
“After that, even Kujo-san’s girls’ group is pretty strong, I’m leaning toward that faction. The faction led by Jinguji-kun is in control of the gold coins, so they seem to be the big boys in town, but they are barely third in terms of fighting power just because they are so numerous, so they can’t do anything too reckless at this stage.”
“Hmm, as expected, you’ve been paying close attention.”
Seki’s observation skills are nothing to scoff at.
Even though he is not an officer of the student council like Kumiko, he is watching the town well enough to be able to detail the power structure of the town.
“And even I’m a Priest now. I’m one of the stronger ones in town, so I can stand my ground.”
“No, Seki, you’re a ‘nun’ if you mean that.”
Seki, who has been training in the city for a long time, has already risen from “Layman” to “Priest” and has already reached the third level of “Sister”.
Incidentally, the third level of priest rank is Sister, regardless of gender. I must really know GenoReal.
“Hey, Seki, there’s some Sister’s clothes in the store, and I heard that if you wear them, you can increase the rate of potion production.”
“Ugh, if you say any more, I’m going to get angry.”
He clenched his small fists and raised his slender arms. Oh scary scary.
It’s a shame, because I think it would definitely look good on him. Monkish rare equipment is often designed for women. I’ll definitely make him wear it someday.
Anyway, even though monk rank is easy to get up in the lower ranks, it’s quite a fast rise to the third rank already.
It may be faster than those who are out adventuring.
At this rate, the day is probably near when he will be able to move up the monk ranks to the higher position of bishop.
Since he is able to make intermediate-level potions without fail, he is a great help to everyone in town.
Seki, in his own way, has established a foothold in the city.
I think he’ll be okay with this.
The fact that he accepts the money I give him is not because he uses it himself.
Since it’s Seki’s thing, he must be giving it to those who are in need of money.
I know this, so I don’t ask him about it.
If I asked him what he was doing with the money, he would probably say something like, “Shinjo-kun wasn’t being honest, so I helped out in his stead”, or some such misguided remark.
He’s quite the soft-hearted guy, but I can’t bring myself to dislike Seki, no matter how helpless he can be.
Even though the kindness he shows to people might seem futile, those connections can become a safety net when needed.
That’s why I give Seki extra coins as well.
It would be a disaster if Seki ran out of money to spend.
“Oh well. I’m hungry, let’s go out to eat.”
“If you want to eat, there are Japanese restaurants. Shinjo, don’t eat fast food all the time. Your nutrition will be unbalanced.”
I’ve been craving junk food for the past nine days, but Seki can be quite particular about it.
Sometimes, I even wonder if he’s my mom, but eating fast food every time isn’t great, so we ended up going to the Japanese restaurant he recommended.
The town of GenoReal has a myriad repertoire of eateries, and the variety of food is extraordinary. Of course, the abundance of food types doesn’t have any game-related significance.
As we walked through the curtain into the restaurant, it had a very Japanese atmosphere, almost like a soba shop run by a former salaryman turned chef.
We were seated at a table for four, myself, Seki, Kumiko, and Ussa.
The tables are lined with menu panels labeled ‘Udon, Soba, Oden, Karaage, Gyoza, Taiyaki, Sukiyaki, Tempura, Fujiyama Geisha’.
The names of Japanese dishes known to Americans are arranged in a disorganized, throwaway, miscellaneous menu.
I couldn’t help but wonder why they had fried chicken and gyoza in a Japanese restaurant. Their sense of menu composition is still as unique as ever.
As for Fujiyama Geisha, it’s a cold dish, so I’ll pass. But seriously, with all these side dishes, why is there no rice option?
“Hey… What’s ‘Fujiyama Geisha,’ I wonder?”
Seki touches on the forbidden taboo that everyone else didn’t mention.
“Stop it!””Please don’t!”
Kumiko and Ussa joined their voices.
I don’t know what’s stopping them, but I agree with them that it’s best to avoid it.
If we get any geisha NPC, we’re in for another nasty surprise.
It was fun to see Seki shrugging his shoulders as everyone berated him, but he was also hungry, so let’s not play around and order.
“I’ll have udon and maybe some oden.”
“Shinjo, that combination is weird… I’ll have soba noodles.”
Seki said this with an exasperated tone.
Is udon and oden really that strange of a combination? It balances out the main dish and side dishes.
Ussa on the other hand, was furiously mashing the taiyaki order button, stacking them into a mountain and silently devouring them. Despite having a small mouth, she’s quite the big eater.
She also seems to have a huge sweet tooth. I wonder if she doesn’t get heartburn from eating so many taiyaki.
“This fish is sweet and delicious. Dear, will you eat it too?
“Well, I’m glad you like it, Ussa. I don’t want it.”
Ussa seems to think that taiyaki is a sweet fish.
Well, if someone from another world who doesn’t know about these things saw them, they might easily mistake them for such fish.
Of course, I don’t bother explaining in detail.
“Hey, why isn’t there any lemon with the fried chicken? I find it unbelievable.”
“I don’t know. This world is like that. Just having tomato ketchup is good enough, isn’t it?”
Kumiko, who seems to be of the lemon juice-dripping type, poked at the fried chicken with her chopsticks and grumbled, “It’s tasteless without lemon or at least sudachi”.
Kumiko, perhaps being a connoisseur or protesting the lack of lemon juice, ate her fried food without ketchup, sprinkling a little pepper and salt on it instead.
I don’t think it makes any difference whether you put lemon juice on fried food or not.
Maybe my palate is just too crude.
By the way, the udon I ordered tasted completely like tonkotsu ramen.
I wonder why the oden was decent.
※※※
After finishing the meal, there was no way to avoid heading to the inn.
Ussa, who had just witnessed the intense mating of humans a while ago, was getting overly excited.
Her ears are bending and stretching, her fists are swinging, and I don’t know what it is, but she seems to be having a hard time with her excitement.
There was no way to play this down.
I decided to ask Ussa what she wanted, in case she wanted to rent out the most exquisite royal suite.
“Hey Ussa, if I ask you to stay in town until the adventure is over, will you comply?”
“No, I don’t want to. I can fight and I will always be with you, my dear.
I see, you’re not going to listen to me obediently.
Well then, I have no choice….
I gently rub Ussa’s shoulder as I speak to her.
It was a cringe-worthy line even by my own standards, but there was no other choice.
“Ussa, this is our first night as husband and wife, isn’t it?”
“It’s finally breeding time!”
Ussa, her blue eyes moistened almost to the point of tears, hugs me hard and tight.
Her breasts are too big, and it’s very painful to be hugged.
Her breasts and butt were just too big…
I did my best to suppress the urge to push her away.
I gently pushed back Ussa’s shoulders as politely as I could and maintained a gentlemanly smile as best as possible.
Why did she start taking off her clothes?
This guy was in too much of a hurry for breeding.
“Haha, Ussa wait wait, don’t take it off yet. Stay stay, breeding won’t run away, so calm down.
“I, I! I want to keep making babies with you and create a big family so we can play Rabbit Pole! So, even though I’m clumsy, please take care of me!”
“What’s this Rabbit Pole you’re talking about?”
“A Rabbit Pole, you see…”
It’s a popular game among the Rabbit Tribe, a sport that combines elements of paintball and capture the flag, where sixty-four people face off against another sixty-four, aiming to knock down the enemy’s poles.
Sixty-four people, how much breeding are you planning to do? I can’t keep up with you.
“Now, you go ahead and take a bath first. Take your time, prepare yourself, and when you’re ready, come out…”
“Yes, dear…”
I try my best to be gentle, gently stroking and rubbing Ussa’s long hair and ears with my hands. Her eyes were wide and she was entranced and left to her own devices.
Was it really that good? Because of my full flirtation, Ussa let her guard down and went to take a bath alone without any doubts.
Hmph, just as planned….
Ussa listens to me when I use breeding as bait.
That’s good.
I quickly packed my backpack.
“Wataru-kun, what are you doing…?”
I was horrified to see that Ussa had already come out, but it was Kumiko.
She peeked out from under the big pink double bed. What the hell are you doing in a place like that?
“What the heck, where did you come from? No, even before that, how long have you been under the bed?”
Come to think of it, she’s a ninja, isn’t she?
So she’s good at infiltration. I was so desperate to fool Ussa that I let my guard down.
“I thought it would be okay because it’s Wataru-kun, but you never know. In case of an emergency, you know? I thought I’d stop it if the naughty rabbit started breeding.”
“I see. Rest assured I won’t breed, just as you predicted. Oh, Kumiko, I’m staying in the room with you today, so if Ussa starts complaining and acting up, you can stop her.”
“Hehe, I got it. It’s a good opportunity to teach that perverted rabbit a lesson about her place.”
Kumiko came rummaging out from under the bed with a big smile on her face and pounded her chest with her fist.
Alright, it was a bit unexpected, but it’s a two-birds-one-stone situation with Kumiko helping to keep Ussa occupied.
I shoulder my luggage and head towards the room where Kumiko and Seki will be staying.
“Oh, You came here after all. I see that you refuse to have marital relations.”
Seki, along with the friends of Kumiko’s… the gentle girl and the girl with bangs, were busy making a large number of potions on the hotel table.
He stops his work and welcomes me with a wry smile.
“Yeah, I’m going back to the dungeon now, so can I have some of those potions?”
“Yeah, I was making these potions to give to you, Shinjo-kun. I can definitely make mid-level ones, and even some high-level ones if you want a bit… Wait a minute, did you say ‘going to the dungeon now’? Aren’t you supposed to rest for the night first?”
Since it’s a kind gesture from Seki, I decide to accept. I gather the colorful mid-level potions that Seki and the others have made and pack them into my backpack.
I felt a little guilty about disappearing without telling Kumiko and the others, so when I got to the dungeon, I was glad I could ask Seki to leave a message.
“It’s a pattern that Ussa and Kumiko will get into a noisy tussle over which room to sleep in, even if we’re at the inn anyway. If that’s the case, I’d be much more rested sleeping on the floor of the dungeon.”
“No, I can’t do that! I mean, it might be fine for you, Shinjo-kun, but how should I explain this to those two?”
What do you think I’m contributing money for, isn’t this exactly the time for Professor Seki to come to the rescue?
“There, Seki, hold off those two guys and buy me as much time as you can. I’m off to the dungeon for a bit, so take care of it.”
“Ugh, I can’t stop those two even if you ask me to! It’s impossible! Shinjo-kun, wait a minute!”
No one is stupid enough to wait when told to wait.
They quickly dash away as fast as they can.
I have no intention of getting involved in a showdown between heroines like in a light novel, and especially not with Ussa, for heaven’s sake!
The idea of becoming a parent at sixteen or so is out of the question. I don’t even want to think about a world full of children who look just like me with bunny ears in GenoReal.
I can’t stay in a place full of sluts like this.
I’m going back to the dungeon.
