Game of Thrones: The Red Dragon Lord

Chapter 80: Chapter 80 The Night Sky of Braavos

Walking along the red-carpeted passage, Gavin and his party finally entered the grand hall, where the King of the Sea, Rhaego Antarian, sat upon his throne. The Sea King raised his gaze, his sharp eyes locking onto Gavin as he began to rise in greeting.

Before he could speak, the Blood Dragon Guards behind Gavin dragged the faceless man forward and unceremoniously dropped him to the polished floor with a heavy thud.

Gavin stepped forward, his tone steady but firm. "Your Highness Neptune, forgive me for disturbing you at this hour, but I must ask—what is your stance on this matter?"

Neptune's expression darkened, and he bowed his head slightly in apology. "Sir Gavin, for such a grave incident to occur in Braavos, under my watch, is a failure I deeply regret. As my guest, I assure you I will do everything in my power to guarantee your safety during your stay here."

Gavin remained silent for a moment, his sharp gaze falling on the faceless man kneeling before him.

Sensing Gavin's unease, Neptune added, "Sir Gavin, I promise this situation will not be repeated. Additionally, I will see to it that appropriate reparations are made tomorrow." Turning to Daenerys, he softened his tone. "Princess Daenerys, concerning the matter of your brother, I will address that as well and provide restitution."

Gavin nodded faintly, acknowledging the Sea King's words. "Your Highness is gracious, and I thank you for your thoughtfulness." He paused, his voice steady but probing. "May I ask, then, who hired the Faceless Men?"

Neptune's expression turned grave as he sighed deeply. "Sir Gavin, while I can forbid the House of Black and White from acting against you while you reside in Braavos, I am unable to demand the identity of their clients. Their contracts and patrons are sacred to them—an immutable law they abide by."

Gavin frowned, his eyes narrowing. "So, to be clear, Your Highness, while I may be safe here in Braavos, once I leave, the Faceless Men will continue their pursuit?"

Neptune's voice grew solemn. "I regret to say that is the case. The House of Black and White operates with an unyielding code. If a contract has been taken, it will be fulfilled. If one Faceless Man fails, another will take their place until the deed is done."

Tyron Reyen, standing nearby, added, "Their resolve is absolute. Once they've accepted a mission, it does not end until it succeeds."

Gavin's expression hardened as he thought for a moment. "It seems, then, that I am entangled in more trouble than I anticipated."

Neptune stepped forward slightly, his voice earnest. "Sir Gavin, while you are within my city, I will assign additional forces to ensure your safety. You need not worry about the Faceless Men here."

Gavin nodded. "Your gesture is appreciated, Your Highness, but there's no need to trouble your forces further."

Then, without further preamble, Gavin gestured toward the faceless man. A burst of fire erupted from his hand, a searing flame that engulfed the assassin entirely.

The faceless man's screams echoed through the hall, sharp and desperate, as his body was consumed. Moments later, nothing remained but a pile of ash.

Gasps filled the chamber as Neptune and Tyron Reyen watched in stunned silence. The water dancers in the hall instinctively drew their swords, pointing them at Gavin, their expressions wary and tense.

Gavin turned to Neptune, ignoring the drawn weapons. He inclined his head and spoke calmly. "I apologize for disturbing your rest, Your Highness."

Neptune, still in shock, was about to speak, but Gavin cut him off. With a respectful bow, he turned and led Daenerys away.

As they walked toward the square outside the Sea King's Palace, Gavin gave a quick command to the Blood Dragon Guards, ordering them to return to the Belerys immediately. He then summoned Syndor.

With a mighty roar, Syndor emerged from the flames above, its wings spreading wide as it soared to meet Gavin's call. The dragon's body glistened in the moonlight, its muscles rippling with power. Gavin and Daenerys quickly mounted its back.

Syndor's powerful legs kicked off from the ground, launching the massive beast into the night sky. With a forceful flap of its wings, the dragon rose higher, the gust of wind howling through the night air.

In the air, Daenerys, clinging to Gavin, asked softly, "Gavin, what are you planning to do?"

Gavin, his gaze focused on the path ahead, replied with calm resolve. "Of course, I will use the Dragon King's method—blood and fire. If it weren't necessary, I would not provoke the Faceless Men. But now that they have made their move, we cannot simply live in constant fear."

As they spoke, Syndor soared effortlessly through the sky, headed toward the Isle of the Gods.

Looking down upon Braavos from the high skies, the city seemed alive with celebration. The streets glimmered with a kaleidoscope of lights, while laughter and the sounds of the festival echoed across the city. Fireworks illuminated the night sky, casting brilliant streaks of color, while ships in the port gleamed beneath the radiance of the city's lights.

Back in the Sea King's Palace, Neptune watched the departing dragon with a long, silent gaze.

Tyron Reyen spoke cautiously, "Your Highness, this Sir Gavin possesses not only dragons but some mysterious power. Do you think he might take action against the House of Black and White?"

The Sea King's brow furrowed. "I hope not. As long as he doesn't cause trouble in Braavos, I have no wish to confront him. But… I fear what he may do. Let us hope he does not act impulsively."

Tyron Reyen nodded in agreement. "Your Highness, should we take further precautions?"

Neptune considered the question carefully. "Yes, strengthen our vigilance. If Gavin acts rashly, we must block the canyon entrance and prevent his soldiers from entering the city. We cannot allow him to turn Braavos into a battlefield."

As Gavin circled the night sky on Syndor, the weight of the situation settled over him. His eyes were sharp, scanning the landscape below. He soon locked onto the direction of the Isle of the Gods. With a gentle tug on the reins, Syndor obeyed, veering toward their destination.
