Game of Thrones: The Red Dragon Lord

Chapter 72: Chapter 72 Gavin's offer and Dany's Inner Struggle

After hearing Gavin's words, Viserys immediately pressed, "How much can you give me? And, aren't you a Blackfyre?"

Gavin paused for a moment before replying, "Ten thousand gold dragons. That's enough to buy a house in Braavos and live comfortably for a long time. And I'm not a Blackfyre. If the Targaryen family still holds the freedom to claim the throne, you must have heard of the Beleris family."

Viserys looked slightly embarrassed at this, "There are records, but they're all kept in the Red Keep."

Before Gavin could respond, Neptune approached them, accompanied by a familiar face: the envoy sent by Reese to the Stepstone Islands.

"Sir Gavin, what do you say to a visit to the Beast Garden?" Neptune suggested warmly.

Gavin smiled at the offer, "I've heard much about your zoo, Your Highness Neptune. I would be delighted to see it today."

Neptune gestured to the man beside him. "This is…"

Gavin interrupted, already recognizing the envoy. "Ah, Your Royal Highness Neptune, it's good to see you again. I recall you once went to the Stepstone Islands as Reese's envoy. It's good to meet you again, my old acquaintance." He turned to the envoy from Lys with a nod.

The envoy, scowling, responded with a biting remark. "Humph! Sir Gavin certainly knows how to cherish his life. I've heard you came to Braavos with your fleet. Seems you don't understand proper etiquette."

Gavin, remaining calm, replied, "If you've heard everything, then you already know I didn't just bring a fleet."

The envoy from Lys scoffed loudly, "Yes, I heard you brought a dragon. We're off to the zoo to see the beasts—why don't you show us your dragon first?" His voice rang out, attracting the attention of everyone at the banquet.

Neptune, who had hoped to smooth things over, fell silent. Though there had been many rumors about Gavin's dragon, Neptune had never seen it with his own eyes and still carried some doubt.

The crowd grew silent as all eyes turned to Gavin. With a faint smile, Gavin spoke calmly, "Since you're so eager to see it, I'm happy to oblige."

He extended his right hand, and a ball of fire shot from his palm, soaring into the sky. The flame expanded rapidly until it formed a massive fireball over fifty meters in diameter, hovering nearly a hundred meters above the crowd.

The onlookers were stunned into silence, their eyes locked on the massive ball of flame, and then, with a roar, a great shadow emerged from the fire. The dragon, blazing with golden scales, spiraled through the air before descending toward the ground. The impact of its landing sent a powerful gust of air that overturned tables and scattered guests in all directions, their screams echoing through the square.

Neptune stood frozen in shock, his face pale, as the dragon approached. The very air seemed to tremble under its weight, and a deep sense of fear enveloped the crowd.

The Lysian envoy, even more terrified, trembled violently. The dragon's eyes locked onto him, and it slowly approached, its massive head lowering until it was only a meter away. The dragon opened its mouth wide, releasing a deafening roar that made the envoy collapse in fear. A strange liquid spilled from him, staining the ground, as his body failed to react to the overwhelming terror.

Viserys, who had been in awe of the power of the dragon, stood frozen. Daenerys, however, was captivated by the creature, her eyes filled with wonder as she gazed at Blazing Shadow.

Gavin chuckled softly as he saw the envoy from Lys paralyzed with fear. He turned to Neptune with a smile, "My apologies, Your Highness. I've caused a bit of a disturbance at your banquet. I believe this envoy from Lys may need a bath and a change of clothes."

Neptune quickly regained his composure and bowed, "It's of no concern, Sir Gavin. This banquet is for you, after all." He then added, "Please forgive my poor hospitality, I'll have something arranged for you when we return."

Gavin nodded, "There's no need for apologies, Your Highness. It was my actions that caused the disruption."

Under Neptune's command, a few brave servants approached the now-faint envoy from Lys and began dragging him away. The crowd, still rattled by the dragon's appearance, slowly began to recover.

As Gavin and Neptune exchanged pleasantries, Viserys, still in awe, finally snapped out of his stupor. His face was full of excitement as he looked at Blazing Shadow.

Gavin turned to Daenerys and spoke softly, "You wanted to see the dragon, didn't you? Now you may touch it."

Daenerys hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding with excitement. "Is it truly alright, Ser Gavin?"

Gavin nodded, "It's perfectly fine."

Feeling a surge of courage, Daenerys took a few tentative steps toward Blazing Shadow. As she grew closer, her pace slowed. The dragon, sensing her proximity, showed no hostility. It seemed to recognize her royal bloodline, the blood of the Dragon Kings. With each step Daenerys took, the tension she had felt earlier began to melt away.

At that moment, Viserys quickly walked up to Gavin, his face alight with eagerness. "Ser Gavin, I want to marry my sister to you."

Gavin, surprised, raised an eyebrow. "Didn't I tell you? I can't help you reclaim the Iron Throne."

Viserys waved his hand dismissively, "No, no, no. I don't need you to take the throne for me. But I need your protection. The usurper's assassins are constantly hunting us. I can't protect Daenerys any longer."

Gavin grew wary at this sudden request. Viserys offering his sister so readily seemed out of character. The only two cards he had left were his royal claim and Daenerys herself. Gavin's suspicions grew, and he started to see the situation more clearly. Viserys's excitement was unmistakable, and Gavin understood his true interest—Blazing Shadow, not Daenerys.

Gavin kept his composure, but he knew Viserys's plans were more than a simple plea for protection. However, Gavin's strength, the presence of his dragon, made such schemes irrelevant.

Viserys, sensing Gavin's hesitation, quickly added, "My sister has the pure blood of the Dragon Kings. She will bear a worthy heir for you, and she is beautiful, isn't she?"

Gavin, seeing the opportunity to end the discussion, sighed and agreed. "Alright. If your request is simply for protection, then I will help you. The Iron Throne may recruit an army, but they will never cross the Narrow Sea."

As Daenerys, who had been nervously approaching Blazing Shadow, overheard the conversation, she felt a mix of emotions. Gavin's kindness was clear in his words, and his Valyrian lineage made him even more intriguing. Yet, her growing unease about her brother's plans left her conflicted. How could she follow through with Viserys's plot when it filled her with so much dread?
