Game of Thrones: The Red Dragon Lord

Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Belleris's Dragon Cave

Leaving some Blood Dragon Guards to look after the horses, Gavin led the other Blood Dragon Guards into the huge building. The interior was severely damaged, with stones scattered all over the ground, and occasionally broken huge iron chains and broken weapons could be seen. But the general shape was still intact, and the layout and structure of the past could still be vaguely distinguished.

As he walked, Gavin slowly explored inside and saw some remaining murals. Although the color of the murals had faded for the most part, the general content could still be discerned.

There were some fierce dragon fighting scenes painted on them, with giant dragons tumbling in the air, spitting flames, and the battle was thrilling.

Through these remaining murals, Gavin saw that this was a dragon fight between Belleris and other dragons. "This... this painting records how the Belleris family gained absolute power in Valyria during the internal struggle," Gavin muttered, piecing together the history from the faded images.

Gavin continued to walk deeper until he was blocked by the collapsed ruins ahead. Countless stones were piled together, tightly blocking the path.

Gavin thought for a moment and judged a general direction based on the records. "Dig through here," he ordered.

The Blood Dragon Guards immediately stepped forward and began digging with determination.

Finally, after clearing part of the ruins, a passage that had not collapsed completely was exposed. Gavin and his party entered without hesitation, but the passage was soon blocked again.

In desperation, they had no choice but to start digging in the approximate direction again. They dug and moved forward, digging their way through the ruins.

There was even a serious collapse along the way, with rubble rolling down and dust filling the air.

Finally, Gavin found a stone door with the emblem of the Belleris family painted on it, the same design that was on Gavin's dragon bone pendant.

Under the great strength of the Blood Dragon Guards, the stone door slowly creaked open, revealing a spiral staircase built into the stone wall.

Gavin walked down the stairs, the winding path resembling a snake. The torchlight illuminated the cave, casting intricate shadows on the uneven stone walls. The flickering shadows danced as if performing a mysterious ritual.

"Stay close," Gavin whispered, his voice echoing slightly in the silent cave.

As they continued down, the light from the torches grew brighter, and when they reached the bottom, they saw a faint light ahead.

They entered an extremely empty cave. Looking up, a huge volcanic crack appeared above their heads. Through the crack, the gloomy gray sky outside was visible. They had clearly entered the interior of the volcano, and the crater above served as the passage for the dragons.

They pressed on deeper into the dragon's lair, and as they moved farther in, the temperature steadily increased. Gavin could feel the unknown corrosive energy from earlier slowly fading.

After a long descent, they arrived at the bottom of the cave. The heat was oppressive, and the air was thick with the scent of molten rock. But, surprisingly, the corrosive energy had completely disappeared.

According to the diary, this was the bottom of the volcano. Beyond here lay magma, where the treasure house created by the Belleris family was hidden.

Finally, after passing through a massive cave, Gavin arrived at the magma lake. The magma churned, boiling and sending hot waves into the air, making a constant "gurgling" sound. Around the lake were countless huge caves, their depths unfathomable.

In the center of the magma, a giant dragon skull as large as a sailboat lay across it like a towering island. Its massive head was raised high, and though it was devoid of life, it still exuded an aura of majesty and mystery.

There were several large stone tablets at the entrance to the cave, and Gavin approached one of them.

The stone tablet was ancient and weathered. Carved from an unknown blood-red stone, the high-level Valyrian inscriptions seemed to speak of the passage of time. Gavin examined it carefully and deciphered its contents.

"This is the record of the Belleris family building a dragon cave here," Gavin murmured as he read aloud. "It describes their skills in hatching and training dragons."

The inscription went on to say that Belleris, the family's greatest dragon, had died here. His body sank into the magma, leaving only his skull floating on the surface.

"As Belleris died, his flesh and blood merged with the magma," Gavin read, continuing the story from the tablet. "The family's fire wizards discovered that the magma below could preserve and enhance the vitality of dragon eggs, even bringing dead eggs back to life."

The inscription revealed how the fire wizards of the Belleris family had transformed this place into a secret lair for preserving and hatching dragon eggs.

Not far from the stone tablet, a massive stone door was embedded into the natural cave wall. Gavin suspected this was the entrance to the treasure house.

He pushed open the door and entered. Inside, countless damaged wooden boxes lay scattered across the floor, with gold and precious gems spilling out. The boxes shimmered in the light, their contents still valuable despite the centuries of decay.

A collapsed bookshelf sat in the center of the treasure house, holding what remained of some ancient books. Gavin approached it, but as soon as he touched them, the books turned to dust. The extreme heat had completely destroyed the knowledge they once held.

After a careful search, Gavin found several ornaments made from Valyrian steel. The only weapon he found was a dagger.

Then, tucked away in the corner, Gavin spotted a dragon bone bow.

He was not immediately excited, as he had accumulated many dragon bones over the years. The bow's body was sturdy enough to withstand the heat of flaming arrows, but he had always struggled with the bowstring, which couldn't endure the fire. No material he tried had proven effective.

"Let's see..." Gavin muttered, his fingers tracing the bowstring. He noticed it was made from animal tendons.

He took a deep breath, nervously nocking a flaming arrow and pulling the string back. To his amazement, the bowstring held firm, and the flaming arrow flew perfectly.

"It worked!" Gavin laughed, his voice filled with excitement. "This bow... it's a true magic weapon."

He handed the bow to the nearest Blood Dragon Guard, his enthusiasm uncontainable. Gavin then resumed searching the treasure house, checking every nook and cranny. But despite his thorough efforts, nothing else of value was found.

Frustrated but resolute, Gavin stepped out to look at the dragon skull again, still lying majestically in the center of the magma lake. But as he neared the boiling magma, he encountered a problem.

"How do I get across to the island?" Gavin muttered to himself, eyeing the treacherous magma. The heat radiated from the lake, and though he had the ability to resist fire, he wasn't sure if he could withstand the magma's extreme temperature.

He hesitated for a moment, weighing his options. Finally, with a deep breath, he made up his mind. "I'll have to test it."

Gavin gently placed his hand in the magma. The heat was intense, but he found that he could endure it for a short time.
