Game of Thrones: The Red Dragon Lord

Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Goodbye Edmond

Gavin said, "Then send a ship to Astapor to investigate further. Speak with the slave masters and assess the situation. If feasible, we'll purchase a batch of slaves for the fleet."

He added thoughtfully, "I also have a long-term goal: to gradually replace most of the pirate longships in our fleet with more powerful sailing warships."

Hassan frowned. "My lord, there are very few fleets in the world composed entirely of sailing warships. Even Braavos's Purple Fleet is an exception. Such a transformation would take an immense amount of time and money. The shipyards along both sides of the Narrow Sea rarely sell pre-made sailing warships, and commissioning one takes nearly a year."

Gavin smiled slightly. "Money isn't a pressing issue right now. The tolls and trade revenue from the islands are substantial. We'll sell off the longships in stages while commissioning new sailing warships, steadily modernizing the fleet."

Hassan nodded, seeing the wisdom in the plan. "Then I'll send word to some reliable shipyards. We can pay a premium if they prioritize our orders. Additionally, we could expand the shipyards at Shipwreck Bay."

Gavin responded confidently, "That's already in motion. Two large shipyards have been constructed there recently. I'll give you the designs for the new sailing warships later; have them built according to those specifications."

Gavin's tone shifted to one of warmth as he concluded, "You've been away for over half a year, Hassan. Go and rest. I've had a manor built for you on the island—you haven't seen it yet. Take some time to enjoy it now that you're back."

Hassan's voice trembled with gratitude. "My lord, I will repay your kindness with eternal loyalty."

Gavin waved his hand dismissively. "Go now, and rest well."

Hassan saluted deeply before leaving, his heart full of emotion.

Aegon 295

Bloodstone Island had transformed into a bustling hub of activity. The newly expanded port featured massive piers built from solid stone, and merchant ships came and went in constant motion.

The salty sea breeze carried scents of spices and exotic goods, blending with the din of sailors' shouts and the clamor of cargo being loaded and unloaded. Together, these sounds created a symphony of prosperity.

The port stretched seamlessly into the town, where rows of new houses had sprung up like mushrooms after rain. Merchants from across the world crowded the streets, their wares ranging from dazzling treasures to humble goods.

The once barren island now thrived with life, a testament to Gavin's leadership. Over the past two years, his foresight and innovations—drawn from the memories of another life—had completely reshaped the region.

Water systems had been repaired, fertile fields cultivated, and local farmers taught advanced agricultural techniques. The resulting bountiful harvests not only fed the islands but also allowed food exports to soar. Freshwater-rich neighboring islands were developed into vibrant settlements, further enhancing the region's growth.

Gavin's ambitious investments didn't stop there. To expand the population, he purchased thousands of slaves from Slaver's Bay. These slaves were promised freedom and ownership of cultivated land after five years of hard work, a policy that inspired both loyalty and productivity.

While his treasury seemed to bleed gold, the returns were immense. The Stepstones had become a major exporter of food, as well as luxuries like soaps, perfumes, and exquisite glassware, which gained renown across the world. Papyrus and fine paper produced on the islands also brought enormous profits, despite initial resistance from certain factions within the Citadel.

With these funds, Gavin constructed a formidable fleet of 90 warships and 50 armed merchant vessels. Nearly half of the warships were state-of-the-art sailing vessels, each 50 meters long and equipped with six modified triple-ballistae.

Shipyards across the Narrow Sea worked overtime under Gavin's contracts, crafting these majestic vessels that commanded respect on the waves. This fleet not only solidified Gavin's control over the region but also ensured the stability of his rule.

A warship slowly approached the docks of Bloodstone Island. Its mast bore a striking banner, divided into quarters displaying the Silver Holy Grail and Black Rose. Onboard, Emond gazed at the bustling port with awe.

Since parting ways with Gavin at the tournament, Emond had returned to a quiet life, unaware of the incredible achievements his nephew would soon accomplish. The news that eventually reached him left him stunned. This visit, prompted by Gavin's invitation, filled Emond with both pride and anticipation.

Emond wasn't alone—his wife, Lilith Tyrell, and their lively children had joined him on this journey. The children chattered excitedly about the sights to come, while Lilith looked on with gentle affection.

As the ship docked, Emond's gaze found Gavin standing on the pier. He was clad in a ceremonial robe with a sword at his waist, his silver-white hair catching the sunlight. Behind him stood four towering guards in full armor, their presence imposing. Soldiers had cleared the dock, leaving ample space for the reunion.

The sailors secured the ship, and the gangplank was lowered. Gavin stepped forward, a warm smile lighting his face. As soon as Emond disembarked, the two embraced tightly.

"Uncle! It's been too long," Gavin said with genuine joy. "I hope these years have treated you well."

Emond smiled back. "All has been well. But look at you, Gavin—your success has exceeded my wildest hopes. I'm proud beyond words."

Gavin chuckled modestly. "Uncle, much of this is luck, I assure you."

He turned to Lilith and bowed gracefully. "Lady Lilith, it's a pleasure to see you again. Time has only enhanced your beauty."

Lilith smiled warmly, "You've grown into a fine man, Gavin. We're thrilled to see what you've built here."
