Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 25: 25. Girl's Mind

"If it's not a bad idea, you can try reaching out to more Western businessmen through him and encourage them to conduct gold transactions. You might even consider offering them a discount.

This seems like a good plan, and I'm sure they'd be happy with it too."

After sitting on his bed and thinking for a while, Jason Liu heard another knock at the door downstairs. He went to open it and found Lena standing there, holding a pot of hot water.

"What's going on? Is something wrong with Lillian?" Jason Liu asked, feeling a bit puzzled.

"No, my lord," Lena replied, shaking her head. Her pale face was flushed a little from the steam rising from the pot. "I boiled some hot water for you to wash your feet."

"Oh, no, no, that's alright. I can handle it myself," Jason Liu quickly refused, taking the pot from her hands.

He wasn't used to the idea of someone else washing his feet. Except for his mother when he was a child, no one had ever done that for him before.

Lena seemed eager to help but respected his decision. Instead, she followed Jason Liu up to his room on the second floor.

Seeing that his bed wasn't made, Lena quickly jumped in to tidy it up. Jason Liu opened his mouth to tell her it wasn't necessary, but she was already hard at work, so he let her continue.

As he sat there washing his feet, Jason Liu listened to Lena happily complimenting the fabric of his quilt. She admired how soft, colorful, and beautifully patterned it was.

"I'll give you a quilt like this someday," Jason Liu said casually. "It's pretty common where I'm from."

Lena's face lit up with excitement but then quickly turned red. She shook her head, politely refusing the offer.

After washing his feet, Jason Liu decided it was time to rest. There wasn't much to do by the dim light of the oil lamps, so sleeping was the best option.

However, he noticed Lena standing nearby, her head lowered and face flushed. Trying to encourage her to leave, he said, "Lena, it's late. You should go to bed."

Hearing the word 'sleep,' Lena seemed startled. Her shoulders trembled, and she became even more flustered, standing there without moving.

Confused, Jason Liu thought she might not have understood him. He tried again, "Lena, it's really late. You should go home and rest. I need to sleep too."

After urging her a few more times, Lena finally whispered shyly, "My lord... you... you might feel cold sleeping alone at night..."

Her face turned bright red as she spoke, and she couldn't look him in the eye. Jason Liu was baffled.

"Why would I be cold? This is a really good quilt, and it's summer here in the North," he said, patting his chest with confidence. "Don't worry, I'm in good health and won't feel the cold."

Lena was at a loss for words. She'd heard plenty of things about men and women, thanks to the gossiping women in the kitchen back at Winterfell. So, she understood the implications of what she'd suggested. But she wasn't upset—she knew her sister Martha had encouraged her to visit Lord East that night.

Jason Liu didn't grasp the situation at all. He gently led Lena back to the door, not realizing what she had meant. Once back home, Lena's sister Martha sighed, assuming that Lena had been turned down.

"Lord East is a noble," Martha thought. "He'll probably marry a lady from a great family one day. My sister is just a simple girl—no matter how pretty she is, she's not a match for him." Not wanting to make her sister feel bad, Martha didn't say anything further. They washed up and went to bed.

As Lena lay there, she slowly began to understand: she had been turned down. Strangely, though she felt a little sad, she wasn't devastated. She'd always known that Lord East was out of her league.

Meanwhile, after a long day, Jason Liu slept soundly, completely unaware of the girl's feelings.

The next morning, Lena knocked on his door, waking him up. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, Jason Liu had breakfast at Lena's house. It was simple but hearty: fried eggs, yesterday's bread, and carrot-onion soup.

Jason handed Lena all the instant noodles, ham, and bread he had in his room. From now on, Lena would be in charge of cooking for him. He felt he was getting quite a bargain since he was paying only 10 silver stags a month for someone who served as a cook, cleaner, assistant, and more.

After breakfast, he checked on little Lillian, who had just woken up. Lena mentioned that Lillian was about one year old. Jason took her temperature—it was a little over 36 degrees, perfectly normal.

The little girl seemed much better, curiously staring at Jason with wide eyes. To make sure her recovery was complete, Jason injected the remaining penicillin he had into Lillian. She'd be fully healthy in a few days.

Feeling satisfied, Jason Liu went back to his store next door.
