Galaxy Domination Guide

Chapter 405: 396 anti-war voices

At the milk tea shop, the holographic screen pinned at the top was playing a TV show, and the new shift worker had just switched to the news channel.

"...According to reporters on the front lines in Britain, in response to the Star Alliance government's recent announcement to continue expanding the Universe Army and to defend against the potential aggression from the three major enslaver civilizations of the Galaxy, civic anti-war groups in Europe and the United States are excited and have started to launch demonstrations in major cities around the globe. Our reporter on the streets of London interviewed a protester..."

In the video, a curly-haired, greasy-looking man in his thirties, his face painted with the flag of Britain, holding a sign that said "make no war, make love" was pushing his mouth close to the microphone and shouting:

"We can't stand the Star Alliance government's poisonous and overbearing presence anymore! One war after another, and now there are already two million people who have joined the Universe Army. Who knows how many more will be recruited. Our brothers, sisters, and friends are all being sent to the battlefield in space, it's terrifying! That prime minister from Iridium Star and the chancellor from China have deceived everyone, proclaiming that others are enslavers, but I don't see how they are any better than those aliens! Our democracy has fallen, and now we are moving towards fascism. We demand the truth! We cannot be the tools of the Star Alliance, the villains that invade other Universe Civilizations. Earthlings must awake!"

The heavyset man babbled a lot, and the reporter found it hard to communicate with him, then turned to interview a much more appropriately dressed, seemingly serious professional woman.

"Miss, why are you participating in this demonstration? Are you dissatisfied with the Star Alliance's policy?"

"Not really, I think Earth's unified government is great, and the current national supply policy is also good."

"Then why are you opposing the Star Alliance government?"

"Ah, we don't want to fight."

"But fighting is to protect Earth."

"Ah, we don't want to fight."

"You do realize that the Universe Army's recruitment is voluntary, right? Only those who volunteer are enlisted."

"Ah, I don't know about that, but we don't want war."

"So what do you want then?"

"I think since the Star Alliance is the global government, it should give everyone the right to vote. Uh, but I think people from developing countries like in Africa and Asia aren't yet capable of exercising their rights, so citizens from European and American countries, as well as countries like Britain, should be the first to vote."

"You do know that now the African and Asian countries have also established national supply policies, right? There are no longer any differences between developing and developed countries."

"Oh, I wasn't aware of that. But I still think that European and American countries, after so many years of development, must be a bit wiser and more advanced than those countries. Uh, also I don't think the Star Alliance is doing enough for women's rights; women should be granted more social status and respect, for instance, they should receive a higher basic income, and..."

The TV was switched off, clearly, the milk tea shop worker changing the channel didn't care much for these political matters. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire

Bai Zhongqi took a sip of milk tea and said, "It's true, without work to do, these people are just stirring up trouble."

Han Jiaxue smiled and said, "These activities don't have any substantial effect on the Star Alliance or your actions, right?"

"That's true, these are just a handful of troublemakers."

Although Bai Zhongqi had been away from Earth for quite some time, he always kept an eye on its affairs. Developed countries in Europe and the United States, while they had submitted to the Star Alliance and become part of it, still harbored a lot of resentment.

Even though they had handed over their military power and allowed the Star Alliance to dismantle their economic structures in favor of a unified Star Alliance economy, deep down they still felt a strong sense of loss.

On the contrary, many previously poor and backward countries highly support the presence of the Star Alliance. With the intervention of the Star Alliance, people in developing countries who were previously struggling with poverty or even below the poverty line can now live a well-off life. Some countries plagued by drugs and crime, because of tighter monitoring and control systems by the Star Alliance, have gradually stabilized. Regions previously ravaged by war and countries threatened by terrorism now enjoy peace. Countries and regions suffering from corruption have also become cleaner administratively, thanks to the Star Alliance's interference.

To many countries that were previously developed, all of these things were already there, so they don't feel very impressed. But for the backward developing countries, the life brought by the establishment of the Star Alliance is fundamentally different from their previous suffering. Compared to their previous conditions, the majority of the world's population living in developing countries supports the various policies of the Star Alliance.

Of course, the thoughts of people in European and American countries are diverse; there are those who are anti-Star Alliance as well as those who support it, otherwise, there wouldn't be so many people joining the Universe Army or participating in various Star Alliance projects and programs.

Bai Zhongqi knew that it would take at least a generation for Earth to fully identify with the Star Alliance. Regardless of his own ideas, once the new citizens born in the Star Alliance Era grow up accustomed to the Star Alliance's way of life and various values, becoming truly interstellar citizens, there would no longer be the current transitional pains of change.

After finishing his milk tea, Bai Zhongqi and Han Jiaxue walked out of the shop, and he gazed around, feeling somewhat lost in thought. Even though he had been instrumental in establishing Tai Ping City, seeing all these scenes that were once only in science fiction, compared to the cityscape where he grew up, Bai Zhongqi understood the changes of times and the struggles and hesitance of the people at present.

Feeling his girlfriend cling tighter to his arm, Bai Zhongqi turned to look. Han Jiaxue had pressed her small face against his arm.

"Spend more time with me; don't rush back," Han Jiaxue said, her face blushing slightly.

Bai Zhongqi felt a bit ashamed. He was still in his twenties but had taken on a heavy burden. Even though he relished all of this, he had neglected many things, like his own youthful emotions.

The path he had chosen was full of glory and could earn him admiration for generations, but it had caused him to lose the simple life he had once been satisfied with and had made him somewhat neglectful of those who cared for him.

Embracing his girlfriend, Bai Zhongqi whispered in her ear, "I'm not going anywhere; I'll be right by your side."

Han Jiaxue nestled in his embrace, speaking softly, "I know you have important things to do, and I'm just a trivial part of it all, but even so, I want to always be in your heart, even if you have to go far away, you have to keep me in your thoughts."

Bai Zhongqi kissed her hair and said, "Of course I will."
