Galactic Beastmaster: SSS Tier Tamer System

Chapter 3: 3- The system - Part 1

"Follow the path highlighted on the map," the AI instructed. "Stay quiet and keep moving. The camouflage will hold as long as you maintain your energy levels."

Aiden nodded, gripping the ancient device tightly as he started down the path. Each step was cautious, his eyes darting around for any signs of movement.

The beasts' roars grew distant, their attention diverted elsewhere, thanks to the camouflage masking his scent and presence.

The trek was tense but uneventful, the system guiding him with precise directions. As they neared the station, Aiden could see the worn and rusted exterior of the facility. Vines and moss had overtaken parts of the structure, but it still stood, a testament to its sturdy construction.

Aiden slipped inside through a broken door, the interior dimly lit by the faint glow of emergency lights that had somehow survived the passage of time. The air was stale, but the space seemed stable enough for now.

He exhaled in relief, the camouflage fading as he settled against a wall to catch his breath. "We made it, Cammy," he whispered, gently petting the chameleon-like beast.

"Now what?" Aiden asked the system. "How do we call for help from here?"

"The station's communication relay is located on the upper floor," the AI informed him. "You will need to restore power to access the relay and send a distress signal. There may still be working generators in the lower levels."

Aiden stood, determination returning to his eyes. "Then we'll get that power running and call for help. Let's move, Cammy."

Together, they ventured deeper into the station, the ancient corridors echoing with the distant hum of dormant machinery.

Aiden moved cautiously through the dim corridors of the abandoned station, each step echoing faintly in the hollow space.

The air was heavy with the scent of rust and decay, a reminder of how long the place had been left to rot. Cammy perched silently on his shoulder, blending in with the shadows as Aiden kept his senses alert for any sign of danger.

Suddenly, the faint sound of footsteps echoed from behind him. Aiden froze, his heart thudding loudly in his chest. The steps were hesitant but persistent, growing louder as they closed the distance. Someone—or something—was following him.

Fear coursed through Aiden, but he forced himself to stay calm. "System," he whispered, "activate Cammy's camouflage."

Without a sound, Cammy extended its ability, cloaking Aiden in a shimmering field of invisibility. He pressed himself against the wall, holding his breath as the footsteps grew closer.

The soft padding of the steps suggested a creature with intelligence, but its hesitation indicated it wasn't confident in its ability to confront him.

Aiden's mind raced, analyzing the situation. If it was unsure, then perhaps it wasn't very strong. He could have the upper hand.

The SSS Tier Tamer System chimed in, breaking his thoughts. "User, hunting and defeating beasts will increase your rank, allowing you to tame more powerful creatures. This could be an opportunity to gain experience."

Aiden clenched his fists. He needed to grow stronger, and this was his chance. He glanced at Cammy, the beast's eyes gleaming as it sensed his resolve. "Alright," he murmured, "let's do this."

He moved stealthily along the corridor, following the sound of the footsteps. The creature was close, just around the corner. Aiden climbed up a rusted ladder to a higher platform, giving him a vantage point from which to strike.

Peering down, Aiden finally saw his pursuer. It was a puppy-sized creature, its fur matted and its eyes wary. It sniffed the air, sensing something but unable to pinpoint his exact location due to the camouflage.

Aiden prepared himself, coiling like a spring. With a swift movement, he leapt from the platform, descending upon the beast in a blur. His hands closed around the creature, pinning it to the ground before it could react.

The beast squirmed and yelped, but Aiden held firm. He drew a blade from his belt, ready to end the fight quickly. But just as he raised the blade, a sharp whistling sound cut through the air.

Aiden's instincts screamed at him to move.

He released the beast, diving to the side as a spear struck the ground where he had been crouched a moment before. Rolling to his feet, he scanned the shadows for the source of the attack.

From the darkness, a figure emerged. It was humanoid, wrapped in tattered, makeshift armor, its eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. The figure held another spear, poised to strike again.

"Who are you?" Aiden demanded, his voice steady despite the adrenaline surging through his veins.

The figure didn't answer. Instead, it lunged forward, spear aimed directly at Aiden's chest. He sidestepped, the tip of the spear grazing his arm, tearing through the fabric of his jacket.

Cammy hissed from his shoulder, its body shifting colors rapidly in response to Aiden's agitation. "System," Aiden said through gritted teeth, "any advice?"

"The assailant is humanoid but possesses beast-like attributes," the AI informed him. "It is likely a hybrid or a mutant. Defeating it could provide significant experience points, but caution is advised."

Aiden dodged another thrust, barely keeping ahead of the attacker's swift movements. He needed to turn the tables and quickly.

"Cammy, use distraction tactics!" he ordered.

The chameleon-like beast leapt from Aiden's shoulder, its body flickering in and out of visibility as it darted around the attacker. The figure hesitated, momentarily confused by the sudden appearance and disappearance of the small creature.

Seizing the opportunity, Aiden lunged forward, grabbing the spear and twisting it from the figure's grasp. The weapon clattered to the ground, and Aiden delivered a swift kick, sending the assailant sprawling.

Panting, Aiden stood over the fallen figure, blade poised for a final strike. But something stopped him. The figure groaned, its voice human, not beastly.

"Wait," Aiden muttered, crouching down. He pulled back the hood of the attacker's cloak, revealing a young woman, her eyes wide with fear and defiance.

"You're...human?" Aiden whispered, the realization hitting him hard.

The woman didn't respond immediately, her chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. Aiden lowered his blade, feeling a pang of guilt. He had been ready to kill without understanding who or what he was fighting.

"System, who is she?" Aiden asked, his voice soft.

"Unknown," the AI responded. "She appears to be a survivor, possibly left behind or a scavenger. Further interaction is recommended to gather more information."

Aiden extended a hand to the woman, his expression softening. "I'm not here to hurt you," he said. "I thought you were a beast. Let's talk."

The woman hesitated, her eyes flicking to Cammy, who had returned to Aiden's shoulder, watching intently. Slowly, she took his hand, her grip firm despite her trembling.

"My name is Aiden," he said. "I'm just trying to survive here. What's your name?"

The woman's lips parted, her voice barely a whisper. "Lana."
