Chapter 302: Chapter 302: Toffee Challenge At Home!
"Although Chelsea have won their first two games, that doesn't mean they can beat us at Everton," Ronald Koeman declared confidently.
"I can assure you that every Everton player is ready to face Chelsea head-on. I firmly believe that with our current strength, we can make something special happen. Three points at Stamford Bridge? Why not?"
That was the level of confidence Ronald Koeman carried into the match.
However, despite Koeman's optimism, it was clear that beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge would be no easy task.
At 7:30 in the evening, both teams took to the pitch.
"Welcome, fans and friends, to this exciting clash between Chelsea and Everton!"
"I'm Zhan Jun, and with me is Zhang Lu. We'll be guiding you through tonight's match."
"Let's first take a look at the starting lineups. For Chelsea, playing at home, head coach Conte is sticking to his favored 3-4-2-1 formation."
"In goal, it's Courtois."
"In defense: Azpilicueta, David Luiz, and Rudiger."
"The four midfielders are Moses, Cesc Fabregas, Kante, and Marcos Alonso."
"Up front, we have Pedro and Su Luo supporting the lone striker, Morata."
"Notably, Lukaku, Chelsea's usual main striker, is out with a calf injury, so he won't be playing tonight."
"Now, for Everton's lineup:"
"In goal, Pickford."
"A back three of Jagielka, Ashley Williams, and Michael Keane."
"Across midfield: Baines, Gueye, Tom Davies, and Holgate."
"Attacking midfielders: Sigurdsson and Rooney."
"Leading the line, Sandro Ramirez."
With the sound of the referee's whistle, the game officially began!
Chelsea, playing on home turf, were the first to press forward. Right from the opening minutes, they displayed their attacking prowess.
It didn't take long for Su Luo to get involved. He received a pass from Fabregas in midfield. After a season of playing together, the understanding between Su Luo and Fabregas had become almost telepathic.
As soon as Su Luo reached the edge of the penalty area, Fabregas, dribbling up the pitch, didn't hesitate. He unleashed a brilliant through ball with perfect timing!
In the blink of an eye, the ball landed at Su Luo's feet!
Without question, this was Su Luo's moment to shine.
Upon receiving the pass, Su Luo wasted no time. He surged toward Everton's penalty area with full force.
On the sideline, Everton head coach Ronald Koeman was immediately alarmed. He knew all too well how dangerous Su Luo could be. Koeman leaped from the bench, frantically shouting at his defenders to mark Su Luo as tightly as possible.
Everton's defenders were on high alert, knowing they couldn't afford any mistakes.
In an instant, both Jagielka and Ashley Williams rushed to block Su Luo's path.
But Su Luo had other plans.
Instead of trying to dribble past the defenders, Su Luo made a clever move. He stopped, and with a swift flick of his foot, delivered a perfectly timed through ball.
In a split second, the ball threaded between the two defenders and landed at the feet of Morata, setting him up for a fantastic scoring opportunity.
Unfortunately, Morata's control left much to be desired. Despite his height, Everton's defenders were quick and focused—especially center-backs Ashley Williams and Jagielka.
The moment Morata took possession, Williams and Jagielka were right there. Without hesitation, the two experienced defenders closed in and successfully blocked his advance, shutting down the attack.
As the game progressed, Everton began to control possession. Although they were playing away, it was clear their goal was to win.
As their head coach had emphasized, Everton had no other choice. With only one point from their first two games, they couldn't afford another poor result.
So, when Everton won the ball, they immediately launched an attack toward Chelsea's goal.
In a flash, the ball found its way to Sandro Ramirez. Currently Everton's strongest attacking threat, Ramirez had no intention of disappointing the fans.
After controlling the ball with his right foot in the front, he quickly set off. It was clear that he wanted to use his speed to break through Chelsea's defense.
To be fair, it was a smart play. Sandro Ramirez is incredibly fast.
Chelsea's three center-backs began to fall back, but it wasn't enough. Ramirez still found an opening.
In the front third, Sandro Ramirez managed to slip past David Luiz's challenge. Next, as he faced Azpilicueta, he used his speed once again to beat the Chelsea defender.
Just like that, Sandro Ramirez broke through both David Luiz and Azpilicueta in quick succession. It was a shocking display that left Chelsea's defenders scrambling.
At a critical moment, Rudiger positioned himself directly in front of Sandro Ramirez.
This was the right move by Chelsea's defense.
Seeing Rudiger in front of him, Ramirez hesitated, clearly rattled. With no other option, he decided to take a shot.
However, this shot inadvertently gave Sandro Ramirez another opportunity.
Courtois saved the initial attempt, but the ball bounced right back in front of Ramirez.
Courtois had misjudged the save, leaving the ball in a dangerous position.
Facing this golden opportunity, Ramirez didn't hesitate for a second. He quickly followed up, delivering a clean and decisive strike into the net.
