Fate/Marvel: Chaldea Descend

Chapter 46: A Song of Ice & Fire (II)

( 3rd POV )

The night still raged outside, a chaotic tapestry of molten asphalt and roaring infernal engines, when inside the sleek interior of the Shadow Border, the Chaldea group gathered in tense urgency. While outside, the battle between the two Ghost Riders—Johnny Blaze and the spirit-possessed Hell Charger driven by Eli Morrow—had reached a fever pitch.

Ken stood near the command console, his arms crossed, his sharp eyes, scanned the situation displayed on multiple screens showing real-time feeds from the vehicle's external sensors. 'Sigh, it's definitely not a coincidence. Marvel Jesus did us dirty this time...' Ken thought as he watched both rider's fight.

Tonight was supposed to be a peaceful Christmas Eve, but the universe's god had other plans, thrusting this unexpected problem upon him. As far as he knew, the conflict between the two Riders was far from simple.

"Master, we're closing in fast," Da Vinci announced from her seat, fingers gliding over the holographic interface. Her usual playful demeanor was replaced with locked in-focus, as she trying to make the battle plan while also steering the Border at the same time.

"The ice wall should make for quite the spectacular impact." Da Vinci said as she steals a glance toward the one who makes the ice walls.

"If what Senpai told us was true, if Robbie Reyes is truly being controlled by Eli Morrow, then stopping them should be our top priority. But... From the file's description, Ghost Riders aren't exactly easy to contain." Mash, already wearing her battle gear said.

While trying to catch up with the Riders, Ken and his team had already initiated their briefing. They had extensive knowledge of the Riders' abilities from Ken's detailed files, which allowed them to focus on formulating a strategy to stop the rampaging skull. And one of their plans involved asking Anastasia to erect ice walls to slow them down.

With Ken's insights and predictions about what might be happening, the group was now deep in their final discussion to solidify the battle plan.

Kadoc let out a scoff, folding his arms as he leaned against the cold metal wall. "That's an understatement. No matter how I look at them, neither of them qualifies as human anymore. I'd say we send both of them back to hell."

Anastasia stood beside him, gently hugging the doll in her hand. Her expression was one of concern as she glanced at the unfolding chaos. "I agree with my master. Both of them are creatures from hell. Isn't it our duty to banish them? Why would you want to be their friend instead?" she asked, staring at Ken with a mix of confusion and incredulity.

Mordred, who stood beside Ken, nodded her head in agreement with Anastasia's words. "See, Master? This is what any sane person would do if they encountered a devil. Either you send them back to where they belong, or you run away from them. Befriending them is out of the question!"

Seeing his servant siding with Kadoc, Ken was left speechless. He was also experiencing a headache as he couldn't reveal the real reason behind his intentions. Excluding Johnny Blaze, who was clearly the main Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes was also a special case.

He didn't know much, but he knew that Robbie Reyes's Ghost Rider was even more special because he once read on the internet that he was known as The All-Rider. That's why he wanted to recruit him, as clearly this was an opportunity to do so.

The prospect of a Ghost Rider capable of driving a Celestial's remains and a living planet was more than enough to convince him to gamble his luck on him.

Ken let out a weary sigh, rubbing his temple as he struggled to find the right words. "Sigh, it's complicated, okay..." he began, his voice tinged with frustration. "Just believe me this once, please. As long as we manage to recruit Reyes, it will all be worth it." He turned his gaze to the icy master and servant, his eyes earnest and pleading. "Only your powers can contain the hellfire, after all."

Hearing Ken's rare plea, Kadoc's expression shifted slightly. He sneered, but there was a hint of helplessness in his eyes. "Whatever. Let's do it your way."

Seeing her master tsundere act, Anastasia chuckled with amusement before agreeing with Ken's plan. "Cold is a natural enemy of fire. If his power is really a hellfire, my power and Viy should be just enough to suppress it."

Ken exhaled, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "Thanks, both of you," he said sincerely. "Now let's discuss how to deal with Murrow inside of Ro–"

But before he could finish his sentence, the cockpit door slid open with a mechanical hiss, interrupting their conversation. Domino, with Lorna and Laura behind her, entered the room, bombarding the group with questions.

"Okay, could someone explain to us what just happe–" Domino started, but her words trailed off as all three of them turned their attention to the chaotic scene unfolding outside.

Lorna gasped, her eyes widening in shock as she took in the sight of the flaming charger with two fiery figures battling atop it. "Oh my god, what is that?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with disbelief.

Domino, standing beside her, was equally taken aback by the chaotic scene. "You know what? Nevermind," she muttered, changing her words mid-sentence.

Da Vinci clapped her hands together, drawing everyone's attention. "Alright, so here's the plan! Kadoc and Anastasia, you're our main strike force against Ghost Rider. Your job is to freeze him, neutralize him—do whatever it takes to keep him from unleashing his fire. Simply put, just go all out."

Kadoc groaned, rubbing his temples. "Of course, I get the suicide mission."

Hearing his complaint, Da Vinci smirked. "Fufu, you'll manage. Now, Ken, you and your Servants will make contact with Johnny Blaze. We need more intel on what exactly is happening here, before deciding what are going to do with Eli Morrow."

Mordred scoffed, arms crossed over her steel-plated chest. "Tch, what's there to figure out? We just beat the crap out of the bad guy and call it a day."

But no one responding on the lion cub word this time. "Understandable. If we go in swinging without a plan, we might make things worse." Ken said before staring at Mordred and Ushiwakamaru beside him. "I need you and Ushiwakamaru to be especially cautious—Ghost Riders have a nasty trump card called the Penance Stare. I don't want both of you to get hit by this terrible attack."

Ken was deeply concerned about the soul-like attack, especially for Mordred and Ushiwakamaru. He was confident that both he and Mash would come out unharmed if they were hit by it, but for Mo-chan and Ushiwaka, the situation was different.

But despite Ken's warning, Mordred merely rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. No looking into the spooky skeleton eyes."

While Ushiwakamaru, in contrast, nodded gracefully. "Understood, Ken-sama. I shall act accordingly."

Lastly Da Vinci turned to the remaining trio of newcomers. "Lorna, Domino, Laura—you're staying aboard the Border with me. Given what we're up against, I'd rather not take unnecessary risks." She paused for a second. "Oh, Hassan will also be staying here with us for our protection."

Hassan, who had been quietly staying in the corner, simply nodded in acknowledgment. She understood that this was not her time to take the stage, so she refrained from interfering with the mission.

But one of the Metas, Lorna frowned, clearly displeased by the situation. "So, we're just supposed to sit back and watch?"

Domino beside her merely shrugged. "Hey, I'm all for letting the magic squad take the heat." She pauses, "And besides, this is clearly out of our league. This is some supernatural shit. We are just joining for less than a week, as a former mercenary, I suggest you stay out of this one, kid."

After giving her word of advice, Domino walked away and took a seat near Da Vinci, preparing to watch the fun. Laura, always one to act on her instincts, let out a brief snarl. Her displeasure was evident as she turned on her heel and headed back toward her room, leaving Lorna standing alone.

The battlefield lay in smoldering ruin as the ice wall shattered into countless crystalline fragments, scattering across the burning asphalt. Steam and hellfire mingled in the air, creating a suffocating fog of heat and cold that clashed violently.

The Shadow Border came to a halt just beyond the wreckage, its heavy tires grinding against the cracked and melted road. Inside, the Chaldea group quickly prepared to disembark. The doors hissed open, and the first figures stepped out.

Ken and Kadoc took the lead, their footsteps crunching over the ice shards as they moved forward. Behind them, Mash, Mordred, Ushiwakamaru, and Anastasia flanked their Masters, each scanning the environment with their own heightened senses. Da Vinci and the rest remained inside, monitoring from the console.

A few feet away, Johnny Blaze sat atop his motorcycle, gripping the flaming chains that still crackled with residual energy from the clash. His skeletal visage burned bright, twin orbs of hellfire smoldering within the hollows of his skull. He scanned the group as his grip tightened around the chains.

Upon seeing a somewhat familiar face he had seen on TV, his ghostly eyes widened slightly in recognition. He remembered that the kid with black hair was the one who had confronted Magneto that night. Alongside him were the rest of his crew: a samurai woman, a girl with a large shield, and, of course, the girl who had evaporated Magneto and his stadium.

Even as a Ghost Rider, witnessing what the girl was capable of left a lasting impression on him. He knew that if he were hit by such force, he would be seriously injured.

"Chaldea..." Johhny muttered with his deep raspy voice.

Across from him, Eli Morrow snarled as he pulled himself from the wreckage of the Hell Charger. His jaw twisted in frustration, teeth gritted beneath the flaming skull. He seethed as he looked around, eyes narrowing as he spotted the newcomers approaching.

"Who the hell are these clowns?" He mumbles in annoyance.

Ken, noticing the tense atmosphere, raised both of his hands in a gesture of mock surrender. "Whoa... whoa... Easy there, gentlemen!" he said with a playful tone.

Seeing Ken's attempt to lighten the mood, Kadoc couldn't help but let out a small, begrudging chuckle. The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, betraying a hint of amusement. Even Anastasia's cold expression softened just a bit as she took in Ken's playful gesture.

"I get it, I get it. This situation is far from ideal," Ken continued, his voice steady as he addressed the group. "Getting interrupted while doing an illegal race would make anyone upset. I understand that, but for God's sake, could you guys drive more carefully? Look behind us—the road is all cracked and melted, making our journey uncomfortable. Especially you! Yes, you, the one with the car! We've had enough of your crazy stunts! I'm gonna call The Hell Police Department!"

Ken's attempt to ease the tense atmosphere was evident in his playful tone, while also giving Kadoc and Anastasia the opportunity to take their positions and prepare for battle. Eli was stunned by the nonsense that Ken was talking about, but Johnny had a different reaction.

"Ryougi Ken, from Chaldea..." Johnny muttered, his voice like gravel grinding against steel. "I didn't expect to see you here."

Hearing that the OG Ghost Rider know him was a bit of surprise for Ken. But despite that, Ken trying to remain unfazed, his expression is steady. "You know us?"

Johnny's flames flared slightly as he exhaled, his skull illuminated by the fiery glow. "I saw your actions on TV," he began, his voice carrying a mix of amusement and recognition. "With all the news and other things in internet, you guys have become quite popular."

Unfortunately, before Ken could respond, Eli let out a guttural growl, the flames around him flaring wildly as he took an aggressive step forward. "I don't give a fuck who you guys are!" he snarled. "People like you are always in my way. Again. Just like you, Robbie and Blaze! Always interfering, always ruining my revenge!"

Eli's fury was palpable, his spectral form radiating a twisted rage that pulsed in sync with the hellfire surrounding him. He pointed a clawed finger at Johnny. "I was going to make that pig, Ivanov suffer! And none of you! Would get in my way this time!"

With that, Eli immediately whipped the chains in his arms, flames enveloping them, and launched them toward the Chaldea group. The fiery chains tore through the air with blistering speed, aiming to strike with devastating force.

Mash, moved to intercept the sudden attack, her shield at the ready. But before she could act, another set of chains, equally swift and engulfed in hellfire, intercepted Eli's attack mid-air, halting it in its tracks.

The Chaldea group turned their gaze to the source of the intervention and saw Johnny Blaze calling out the chains back into his arm. "Not in my watch, Eli." Johnny said while leaving his Hell cycle behind.

"Grrrhhh..." The other rider merely growled at him, feeling annoyed that his attack failed.

Johnny's grip on his chains tightened, while walking toward the group in attempt to shielding them. "You were out of control. You still are. You're not a Spirit of Vengeance—you're just a damn ghost, a mere satanist, a parasite riding shotgun in a kid who didn't ask for any of this."

Eli's flames crackled violently. "I don't need you to tell me what I am!"

The tension between the Riders was suffocating, the air thick with the heat of their opposing flames. The Chaldea group watched in silence, each of them keenly aware of the precarious nature of the confrontation.

Ken, analyzing the situation, spoke calmly. "It sounds like there's a some of history here. Even though we're still not quite sure of all the details, I believe it's appropriate for us to team up to cleanse this filthy soul, Mr. Blaze."

Johnny was surprised that the Chaldea knew his true name, but the surprise only lasted for a second. 'They even know Magneto's true name, so it shouldn't be a surprise,' he thought.

The other Ghost Rider, also preparing his chain in his arm. Eli scoffed. "And what? You gonna stop me? You have no idea what you're dealing with."

This time, it was Anastasia that stepped forward, then her icy gaze meeting Eli's fiery one. She exuded an aura of cold detachment, her breath visible in the frigid air. "Actually," she said, her voice smooth yet commanding, "I believe we do."

Suddenly a big shadowy figure materialized behind her, with its two blue icy eyes staring at the enemy. Eli barely had time to react before the temperature around them plummeted.

A sudden gust of freezing wind rushed across the battlefield, causing the flames around him to flicker and weaken. Anastasia lifted a single hand, and the very air crystallized at her fingertips. "Fire may consume," she continued, "but ice endures."

A jagged spear of ice erupted from the ground, aiming straight for Eli's chest. He barely dodged, the attack grazing his ribs as a layer of frost crept up his side.

Snarling, he retaliated, launching a blast of hellfire toward her, but Anastasia remained unfazed. A mere flick of her wrist summoned a barrier of frost, the flames snuffing out as soon as they met its surface.

Kadoc smirked slightly from behind her. "It's almost the time, Caster."

Eli growled, his frustration mounting. His grip on Robbie's body faltered slightly, allowing a flicker of the younger man's consciousness to push through. From deep within, Robbie Reyes fought against the entity controlling him, his mind straining against the overwhelming force of Eli's will. His voice, weak but defiant, echoed within the depths of his own mind.

"Eli, stop this... Gabe..."

Eli winced, his grip tightening. "Shut up, kid. I'm handling this."

But the distraction had cost him. In that split second of hesitation, the shadow figure behind the icy woman began to solidify as the woman began to chant.

"Viy..."
