Chapter 45: Chapter 44: A Promise with Kotori & DEM’s Interest

Itsuka Household – NightTime

As Kotori was about to report Ryuu's existence to Ratatoskr's higher-ups, a familiar voice interrupted her.

"Dinner's ready! Come eat!"

Standing in the doorway, Shiori Itsuka smiled, wearing an apron.

Kotori's entire demeanor shifted instantly.

The cold, commanding officer disappeared, replaced by a clingy little sister bouncing toward the table.

"Yay! Hamburger steak! Shiori, you're the best!"

Ryuu raised an eyebrow at the sudden personality shift.

Seconds ago, Kotori had been prepared to negotiate with world powers, and now she was… acting like this?

"Sit down, Ryuu-san," Shiori said with a gentle smile. "It's still warm."

Ryuu nodded and took a seat, eyes scanning the three plates of steaming hamburger steak.

Kotori was already digging in, her expression full of bliss.

Ryuu took his first bite.

Surprisingly… it was good. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside—perfectly balanced.

"Not bad," Ryuu admitted, nodding slightly.

Shiori giggled. "I'm glad you like it!"

He smirked. "I know someone who cooks just as well as you. You'd probably get along."

"Oh? Really? Who?"

Ryuu leaned back. "Shirou Emiya. Calls himself a hero of justice."

For a moment, Shiori looked curious, but she simply laughed and continued eating.

Ryuu finished quickly and stretched. It was getting late.

"Thanks for the meal," he said, standing up. "But I should get going."

Shiori's smile froze.

"Wait," she said, eyes darting nervously. "You haven't… found a place to stay yet, right?"

Ryuu shrugged. "I'll figure it out."

Shiori's blood ran cold.

She could already imagine it—him strolling into a random house, using some terrifying ability to make the owner leave, and then claiming it as his own.

'Nope. That cannot happen.'

"Why don't you stay here?" Shiori offered quickly. "There's an empty room."

Ryuu blinked. "You sure?"

"No trouble at all!"

'Better me than some poor, unsuspecting landlord…' Shiori thought, forcing a smile.

Before Ryuu could argue, Kotori stepped out of her room, back in commander mode with her black headband.

"You're staying here," she said flatly. "We've already processed your school transfer papers."

Ryuu froze mid-step.

"…My what?"

Kotori folded her arms. "Starting tomorrow, you'll be attending Raizen High School with Shiori."

"The hell for?"

"You're searching for Spirits, right?" Kotori smirked. "Well, guess what? They all show up at that school."

Ryuu narrowed his eyes. "And why does that require me to enroll?"

"Because it's the easiest way for us to keep an eye on you," Kotori admitted. "Consider it part of our deal."

Ryuu exhaled sharply. "Tch. Fine."

Kotori smirked in victory. "Good. Now get some rest."

Meanwhile – DEM Industries, London

Across the world, in a high-security office in London, a man watched Ryuu's battle footage with gleaming eyes.

"Marvelous…"

A deep chuckle echoed through the room as Westcott leaned forward, enthralled by what he was seeing.

Displayed on his massive screen was Ryuu's fight with Tohka—every frame analyzed, every movement studied.

A wine glass in his hand tipped slightly, spilling red liquid onto the floor.

He didn't even notice.

"To think… such an anomaly exists in this world…"

The door swung open.

A sharp-voiced woman entered, her piercing blue eyes locked onto him.

"Watching that garbage again, Westcott?"

Standing before him was Ellen Mira Mathers—the strongest magician in the world and DEM's most lethal asset.

Westcott didn't acknowledge the insult. Instead, he gestured to the screen.

"Come take a look, Ellen."

Ellen sighed, approaching reluctantly. "Is it another Spirit?"

Westcott's smile widened.

"No. Something much more fascinating."

Ellen's entire expression changed the moment she saw Ryuu fighting Tohka barehanded—matching a Spirit without a Realizer Unit.

Her pupils dilated slightly.

"…No device?" she muttered.

"None," Westcott confirmed.

Ellen's lips pressed into a thin line. "That's impossible."

Westcott chuckled. "And yet, here he is."

The video continued, showing Ryuu deflecting Tohka's energy slashes, his movements inhumanly precise.

Ellen's fingers twitched slightly.

She wanted to fight him.

"Boss," she finally said. "Give me the order."

Westcott smiled.

"So eager?"

"I'm the strongest magician in the world," Ellen said coldly. "And I don't accept rivals."

Westcott laughed.

"Then go, Ellen," he said, swirling his wine.

"Test the limits of this anomaly.'"
