Chapter 4: Relics
"I think I did well". Edmund talked to himself. Sometimes he tends to talk just to clear his mind.
He was in no hurry. After the previous day, Edmund prepared to receive Waver, he was one hundred percent sure that he would come to him for help. Besides, since he took the relic with him, he had no other viable option in the short term.
The holy grail war was just around the corner.
And so it was said and done, Waver desperately searched for it all over the campus. It wasn't until after an hour of intense searching that he found him.
Under a tree with his eyes closed, Edmund was lying down. Waver remembered the day he first spoke to him, it was in that very oak tree.
He was envious of Edmund, who was born with a lot of magic circuits, compared to him, who barely had any, or rather, less than average, and not all of them were top quality like Edmund's. He had hardly any top quality circuits.
He had hardly a single first-rate one.
She had every reason not to want to talk to him, but she did it anyway, she did it because she wanted to know why he was so unconcerned about his studies. And when she asked him, she only received a faint smile in response.
From that day on, Edmund didn't stop following him around, sat where he did, and teased him from time to time. He didn't take it badly, Waver felt that he had fun when he was around him, making him forget his problems.
He was no longer looking for answers, because he had found him, Waver believed, Edmund is genuine. He wasn't like the other wizards, who had other intentions and were very arrogant with their bloodlines.
In comparison, Edmund behaved like a modest young man, without any affiliation to strange tastes, of course, that was at first.
Presently, Waver does his best not to burst out in anger with his morbid comments.
With a quick movement, Waver leaned 90 degrees and shouted shrilly.
"Edmund, I've made up my mind, please help me in this battle I'm about to fight!".
Edmund silently stood up and stroked Waver's head.
"There is no need to bow, Waver". Waver raised his head and looked into Edmund's eyes. With a wave of his hand, Waver understood that he wanted him to follow him.
They walked quietly out of the clock tower, and that's when he saw Edmund's car, a black Mustang.
He didn't have much time to admire the car, Edmund gave Waver a signal to get in, he was going to take him to another place.
Edmund moved all of his relics to a hotel where he had influence. He invested good money for the location of this and gave a warning before going, he didn't want any interruptions.
For this special moment, Edmund personally drove Waver.
The drive was short; after thirty minutes, they were at the hotel entrance. Waver gazed in awe at the hotel which, to the naked eye, was elegant.
They walked through the door and headed for the elevator. They did not speak on the way, not until they reached the suite.
"Welcome to my humble abode, now let me guide you to the relics". With a touch of professionalism, Edmund changed his voice intonation to something deeper.
Waver walked behind him, following him, he wondered at the subtle change in his voice, he sounded like someone else just by changing the volume of his voice.
Edmund stopped abruptly, he had reached the destination. To Waver's eyes, he observed several shelves with strange objects, some were just a few pieces of metal, and others were fragments of some kind of armor, but in general, it was varied.
"Let me introduce you to the relics, Waver. Before your eyes, you are in the presence of the catalysts of the greatest Greek heroes that ever lived".
Edmund paused for a moment to allow Waver to digest all the information he was about to recount.
"Hercules, Achilles, Ulysses, Orion, and many more—I have them all. I could easily fill all seven classes, and you have the right to choose one at will."
Waver pondered Edmund's words, unsure of which to select. While they were all extraordinary, he lacked the general knowledge to decide who would be the best choice to utilize.
Edmund noticed Waver's hesitation. With a smile on his face, he spoke.
"If you'd allow me, I could recommend one for you."
Waver didn't pass up the opportunity.
"All right… Which one do you think would be perfect for me, Edmund?"
"I recommend this shelf," Edmund said as he walked toward a section slightly set apart from the others. It was visibly distinct from the rest.
The relics were carefully encased in individual glass boxes, each displayed with precision.
"These are my favorites. Let me introduce you to Orion, Dioscuri, Achilles, Hercules, Perseus, Chiron, Hector, and Atalanta."
With great attention, Waver didn't let the names mentioned distract him.
"These are the ones I recommend, but if we get more specific, I'd suggest Achilles or Perseus. Some, like Orion, couldn't be summoned, and others, like the Gemini twins, would be too much of a burden for you."
"Although, with Achilles or Perseus, it would be the same—they were top-tier servants, after all."
"Personally, I can't give you a clear answer between the two mentioned servants. It will be your decision from this point on which of the two you want to summon."
Waver had doubts. If he remembered correctly, the Gemini brothers were Castor and Pollux, transformed into a constellation by Zeus, and Orion was the giant hunter who also became a constellation. All the names mentioned by Edmund were good, but if it were up to him, Waver couldn't decide which one to choose. However, with Edmund's intervention, Waver was able to calm himself and narrow it down to two relics instead of six.
"I choose… Perseus." He didn't think too long; Waver remembered that Perseus was the first hero to begin the era of heroes and one of the few who hadn't suffered a tragedy at the hands of the gods.
Since he was the first, Waver firmly believed that Perseus would be powerful.
"Alright, it will be Perseus then."
Edmund took the small crystal box and showed him a simple metal bracelet. It was a piece of Perseus's armor.
He handed the bracelet to Waver with great care, and Waver held it in his hands.
"Be careful with the relic. I only have one of Perseus, and if it gets lost or broken, I won't be able to get another one anytime soon."
Waver nodded. Edmund sighed in relief, calming down immediately.
"Everything is ready. If you want to arrive on time, you'll have to leave tomorrow for Japan. I've heard that the slots for masters are almost full. If you want to participate, you'll need to travel early tomorrow."
Without further delay, Waver left with Edmund. He had to take him back to the clock tower and also repeat the process with Kayneth.
