Chapter 22: Ch 22 : Necklace and Armor
After hesitating slightly, Noel still chose to go through the door that Garlos had emerged from.
Based on the information revealed in the other party's words, whatever had originally been behind that door should have been the purpose of Garlos' visit.
Noel hoped to find some clues related to it in that room.
Stepping into the room, he quickly scanned his surroundings.
The only thing inside was a lone, empty throne at the center, while the floor was covered by a destroyed magic circle that had once encompassed the entire room.
(Was it destroyed by Garlos? Judging by the patterns on this magic circle, it seems to be a defensive one. Even though it has lost much of its power over the millennia, its current level of defense is still quite high. It looks like that Demonic Soul, Garlos, isn't just formidable in terms of mobility—his offensive power is definitely nothing to underestimate either.)
With a somewhat grave expression, Noel carefully studied the magic circle.
His final conclusion was that, despite its diminished power, its remaining defensive strength was still comparable to some of his own mid-to-high-level defensive techniques.
Judging by the extent of the damage, Garlos couldn't have attacked it more than three times—two times seemed even more likely.
What he didn't know was whether those attacks were made with full power or if Garlos had held back.
(Garlos' danger level needs to be reassessed. Based on all available information, his strength is at least on par with Erza. As for whether he has reached or even surpassed Mystogan or Laxus, there's not enough intelligence to determine.)
A trace of caution appeared on Noel's face.
Given his current physical condition, even if Garlos didn't flee, he estimated that he had only a forty percent chance of keeping him here.
After surveying the magic circle, Noel finally turned his attention to the throne in the center of the room.
Its soft silver-white hue, intricate patterns, and luxurious design made it a masterpiece of craftsmanship.
However, the empty seat gave it an eerie aura of lifelessness.
(It looks like whatever Garlos took was originally placed on this throne. What a pity—there's no information here to deduce what it was.)
After carefully inspecting the area and confirming there were no clues about the missing object, Noel shook his head.
He hesitated briefly before giving the throne a slight bow, then decisively turned to leave, closing the door behind him as he went.
(Next, I should check the room on the left. Maybe it has some connection to the one on the right.)
After leaving the right-side room, Noel thought for a moment before deciding to investigate the left-side room first.
To Noel's slight surprise, there were no defensive measures on the door—not even a lock.
It could be pushed open effortlessly.
As the door creaked open, ancient dust billowed into the air.
Noel frowned and enveloped himself in a thin layer of light, shielding himself from the dust.
He waited until the air settled before taking in the scene before him.
What caught Noel somewhat off guard was that this room turned out to be an armory.
Inside, several rows of shelves lined the space, filled with various weapons.
There were swords and blades meant for offense, as well as shields and armor designed for defense.
(If Erza saw this, she'd probably be overjoyed, wouldn't she?) Noel thought to himself.
However, after taking a closer look at the weapons inside, Noel couldn't help but let out a light sigh.
The vast majority of the weapons had already decayed, reduced to nothing more than remnants.
Forget using them in battle—even gripping them too tightly would likely cause them to crumble into dust.
(What a pity… If they were stored here, they must have been valuable treasures. Oh well, I might as well head straight to the innermost section. The best weapons should be kept at the very back, after all.)
Having made up his mind, Noel didn't bother searching through the ruined weapons for anything intact.
Instead, he walked directly toward the far end of the room.
As he maneuvered around the shelves and reached the innermost section, his gaze was immediately drawn to two objects: a blue crystal necklace and a set of purple armor.
Reaching out, he picked up the crystal necklace and held it in his hand.
"What is this necklace? Is it just an ornament?" he muttered curiously.
As if responding to his words, his ring emitted a faint blue light, and a screen of light materialized above the necklace.
When Noel saw what was written on it, the corner of his mouth twitched involuntarily—because at the very top of the screen, a bold words were displayed: [User Manual]
(Well… that's certainly unique. Heh.) Noel wiped away imaginary sweat from his forehead, amused, before turning his attention to the text.
After carefully reading through it, he was slightly surprised.
The necklace was actually a defensive accessory, and from the description, its defensive capabilities were nothing to scoff at.
(This would make a perfect gift for Mira.)
Thinking of Mira, who had lost most of her magic power, Noel felt that while she usually stayed within Fairy Tail and didn't seem to be in much danger, having a defensive artifact like this just in case would give him some peace of mind regarding her safety.
After placing the crystal necklace into his pocket, Noel finally turned his attention to the third item—a set of purple armor with massive wings on the back.
(Hmm… this looks like women's armor. Could it be the Moon Goddess's Armor?) he wondered suspiciously.
After observing it for a while, Noel eventually gave up on trying to find any clues.
(It's not like anyone would leave inscriptions on armor, let alone something like a "user manual." Oh well, since I found it in the Moon Goddess's Temple, I might as well call it the Moon Goddess Armor. I'll give it to Erza as a gift.)
(But… how am I supposed to carry it out? Am I really going to walk back to the guild with a full suit of armor on my back?)
The mere thought of himself carrying a bulky set of armor all the way back to the guild left Noel speechless.
As if sensing his thoughts, the armor suddenly emitted a soft purple glow.
When the light faded, the armor had shrunk to the size of a palm.
Noel blinked in surprise and tentatively spoke, "Enlarge?"
With another flash of light, the armor instantly returned to its original size.
"Well, this seems pretty interesting."
Amused, Noel watched the armor for a moment before shrinking it once more and slipping it into his pocket.
