Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Entering the Hall, Kidnapping the Child!
Owen Don dropped his sister and nephew home and then headed back to his studio, claiming he needed to rush his drafts and conveniently drove the car away. Violet Don took out the boxed meals from the fridge to give him, "Don't overexert yourself."
Owen said, "Supporting you is quite exhausting. I don't even have a wife yet."
Violet abruptly shut her brother out the door; behind her, Wayne Don laughed on the sofa, "Uncle is an old bachelor!"
Violet laughed too, "Did you have fun today?"
Wayne nodded enthusiastically, "Fun—!!"
"As long as you're happy, remember when you go back…"
"Go back and thank Uncle." Wayne said with open eyes, "I understand, Mommy."
Violet felt like giving birth to such a smart kid was like hitting a five million dollar lottery!
She had just cleaned up the house and was about to go to sleep when the doorbell rang.
Violet was still mopping the floor and called for Wayne to open the door. Wayne hopped off the sofa and toddled over, "Is it Uncle who forgot something…"
As soon as he opened the door and saw the face opposite, Wayne's expression instantly changed.
Noah Bates hadn't expected it would be his son who opened the door. He had imagined many scenarios for this meeting: after five years apart, perhaps Violet would be indifferent, maybe even unfamiliar, or possibly still hating him, but he never imagined his son would be the one to answer the door.
When Wayne saw Noah's face, his heart suddenly tightened, and the next second he realized and slammed the door shut.
Damn! It was Noah Bates's first time being shut out the door when visiting!
And it was by a damn kid!
But thinking about it, his son indeed had his own style, which stupidly reassured him, and he knocked again.
Then he heard Wayne's voice, "Mommy, there's no one outside, it might be a neighbor's prank!"
Noah was furious; where did the kid learn to lie with open eyes!!
Thus, he simply kicked the door, scaring Wayne. Holding the door, he looked back at Violet in the room, "Mommy… there's a bad man at the door…"
"What's wrong?" Violet went over and embraced Wayne, seeing the expression on the child's face. Thinking that their life alone might attract criminals, she stepped back with Wayne holding her tightly in her arms.
"Mommy, don't be scared, it's Young Master Bates."
Violet's heart suddenly chilled!
Why would Noah Bates come here? How did he know about her and Wayne? Was he here to take the child away?
The thought alone made her eyes redden. Violet gritted her teeth, "Baby, don't worry, Mommy won't hand you over to the bad man."
Hearing this, Wayne dropped to the floor and boldly went to open the door. Just as Noah was about to kick again, the door suddenly opened, and a kid who looked exactly like him stood there, frowning and warily asking him, "Do you need something?"
Wow, straight to the point! It seemed the kid knew everything!
Noah sneered, "What, you won't invite your dad inside?"
"I don't have a dad," Wayne quickly retorted. "For the last five years, it's just been my mom and me, I don't have a dad. And I don't need one either."
Hearing this, Violet's eyes reddened again; what a sensible child!
Noah stood at the door facing Wayne, "You don't need a dad?"
"Young Master Bates, my Mommy and I have always been peaceful and haven't done anything wrong. If you need something, please tell us now and then leave," Wayne responded, mimicking how others addressed him; Noah found it uncomfortable to listen to.
Was this kid taught by Violet? Teaching him to be outwardly respectful but secretly scornful.
Annoyed, Noah just stormed in, and upon seeing Violet standing in the living room, a flood of emotions from the past five years surged in his heart.
Violet Don's eyes held a deep-rooted fear and pain that made him clench his fists involuntarily.
"It's been a long time."
He said so.
Violet didn't answer, and Wayne Don, unable to stop him, simply ran to his mother's side, took her hand, and said, "Mommy, don't be scared, let's go to sleep."
The mother and son turned to leave, planning to completely ignore Noah Bates.
"Stop!"
An angry voice came from behind them, causing Violet to shudder, and even Wayne noticed her trembling hands.
Noah Bates, furious, laughed bitterly, "Aren't you going to explain this child's matter to me?"
"Explain what?"
Violet looked at Noah Bates, her voice trembling, "I've already served five years in prison, why can't you let me go?"
Five years in prison had destroyed all her love and expectations for him!
Noah Bates squinted, seemingly dissatisfied with her response, "You deserved your prison time, why play the victim?"
Violet's eyes reddened, she turned around, and said to Noah Bates, "Is that so? Well, why are you still clinging to me? What makes a woman with a criminal record like me worthy of stepping into your home?"
"Of course, you're not worthy." Noah Bates stepped forward and grabbed Wayne's hand, "But he is!"
Violet tried not to cry, but Wayne was unexpectedly calm as he looked at Noah Bates and gently said, "Young Master Bates, please let go."
The word "please" stung Noah Bates like a needle to his heart.
He said, "Call me Dad."
"I don't have a dad."
Wayne looked up, smiled, and said, "I only have a mom who has been in prison for five years."
At that moment, Noah Bates admitted that he'd been defeated by a child.
Violet didn't have to say a word, but just one sentence from Wayne was enough to break his heart.
Five years in prison and Violet had killed both his child and his lover, how dare she come now feigning innocence to question him?!
He suddenly remembered what Violet had said when she was taken away five years ago.
If you ever find out that what you did today was wrong...
A tightness clutched at Noah Bates's heart, and he subconsciously looked at Wayne, suddenly asking a very stupid question, "When were you born, kid?"
"Do you even need to ask? Of course in the prison."
Violet laughed until tears came out, "You only had eyes for Amy Andrews, how could you care if I was pregnant? Yes, maybe Wayne isn't even your child, in your eyes, aren't I just a slut?"
Noah Bates, furious, let go of Wayne and violently grabbed Violet by the neck, "Five years apart, and you're still so vile!"
Violet pushed Noah Bates with her left hand, and to his shock, he saw calluses on it.
Violet had always used her right hand, why...
Thinking of something, Noah Bates reached out to grab her right hand. Violet screamed, suddenly emotional, "Let me go!"
Wayne also had tears in his eyes, "Let go of my mommy!"
As the sleeve was lifted, it revealed a wrist so thin it seemed it could break with a single pinch. These hands were once Violet's pride, when she drew design drawings, the whole world sparkled in her eyes, but now—
The crisscrossing scars on her wrist struck him in the eye, and Noah Bates couldn't help but be shocked, his pupils sharply contracting!
