Elegy: Lost Shadow

Chapter 33: Chapter Extra: Calida At Home

Calida lay motionless on her bed. She was consumed by sheer boredom because she had nothing to do but stare at the white, slightly faded, ceiling. Her white bedsheets covered her, intensifying the heat she felt. It was sunny outside and as such, it was hot. Terrifyingly so.

She let out a sigh, "Something should just hurry and happen." She sat up before proceeding to open her curtains. She raised her shirt, uncovering her torso. Through the window, a torrent of flames surged toward her. Their searing heat was palpable even before it met her skin. They struck her, completely engulfing her.

They merged with her body as they became a part of her once more. The tips of her hair, as well as her eyes, which were once a bright shade of blue, returned to their reddened state. "That didn't take very long. Pray tell, how was it?"

A deep voice echoed across the room. Its tone was malicious. 'I accompanied then all the way to Seekers where they encountered a little trouble. Specifically, it was a clash with a Panthera Leo Krugeri Bystier. The beast had a high affinity for resonating with the flame belt under Redstar Forest. Naturally, it proved to be a formidable foe.'

"So what did you think about how they handled it?" she asked, eagerly awaiting a response.

'It was expertly done though I am displeased to inform you that your brother was caught between a massive cluster of flames and lightning. This led to a condition which could prove fatal.'

"Wait just a moment, should it not have been wind and fire? I could have sworn that Anemone is a wind type."

'They encountered someone along the way. I suspect that he might become their companion. Lady Anemone must have been the one to issue the invitation as I can't picture your brother being the one to do that.'

"I see….that only points to the fact that he is good company. She is a cautious girl after all." She lay on the bed once more after letting out a sigh of relief.

'If you don't mind my asking, Master, why do you seem to only be concerned with his company? Shouldn't his well-being matter more? You do realize that I just mentioned him being severely injured, right?'

"He is fine. It's nothing I need to concern myself with. If Asim's life was at all in any kind of danger, my body would have already reacted by now. After all, my life belongs to him."

She heard a loud knock at the door. Annoyed, she got up quickly to answer it. It was rare to receive guest so deep in the forest. She opened the door only to find Wave waiting at her doorstep.

As soon as she saw him, before he could even utter a word, she exclaimed, "Wait!" She shifted her gaze to look around the house before returning it to him.

"Sorry Wave….I didn't make any lunch."

He frowned at her gesture. A slight irritation tickled against his throat. "How on earth is that the first thing you assume when I just got here!" He exclaimed.

"Wave, please; you are my cousin. I feel as if there is enough similar blood between us for me to at least know what you are thinking." She replied fatuously, nodding her head as though to validate her claim.

"That has nothing to do with blood!" He exclaimed, raising his voice.

"But you always say that my brother and I are annoying."

"That's a different issue. Besides, I am adopted. So there!" He added hoping to end the stupidity that was transpiring.

"But that doesn't make you my cousin any less," she smiled before flashing him a smug expression.

He stood, dazed by what he had just heard. "Somehow, I feel as if you grow dumber by the day."

"Relax, I am just messing," she chuckled, "Anyway, what do you need?"

He took a deep breath. "Mr. Vito told me to spare with you again today. He says it is important for me to test myself."

She pointed at him, "You spare with," she pointed at herself, "me." She then broke out into a laugh.

"Why are you laughing?!" His voice rose once more. His eyes narrowed, filled with an unmistakable irritation.

"Sorry, I am still just messing. You should know that I have regained most of my power. As I am right now, even if I pull my punches, I will still have enough power to kill you."

"But you spare with me a lot. You've never killed me. You are being serious, right?"

"Deadly....unless you can use Crystalis, chances are, you might end up dead."

"If Crystalis is the only requirement, I will be fine. You act like you don't know I can use it."

"Can you though, I always forget that." She chuckled, "I will be with you then."

It is strange but Wave tells me that Mr. Vito sends him to spare with me. I highly doubt that is true though. That doesn't seem like what Mr. Vito would do. I mean, he is here probably once every three days.
