Eclipse of the Heart: The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Initial Interactions

Hearing Li Ge's question, the spirit mink tilted its head, waving its paws in the air and chirping.

Having spent three years with the spirit mink, Li Ge naturally understood its gestures. Following the direction of its small paws, Li Ge looked at the sky. It was cloudless, and the azure sky was dyed an indescribable color by the orange sunrise, a dazzling yet pleasant hue.

The spirit mink meant it had fallen from the sky. Li Ge blinked. Could it be that she had fallen from the sky like Xiao Hei when she lost consciousness?

Watching the harmonious interaction between the woman and the mink, a flash of astonishment crossed Ling Mo's eyes. If he wasn't mistaken, this was a spirit mink, a species thought to be extinct. It was said that these spirit minks were highly intelligent. Seeing the familiarity between the woman and the mink, Ling Mo felt his hand ache even more.

A barely audible intake of breath reached Li Ge's ears. She suddenly remembered Xiao Hei had just bitten someone, and this man was not one to suffer losses. Thinking of his ruthless nature, Li Ge hugged Xiao Hei tightly, fearing he would crush it with a single palm. She didn't forget to glance at the man's bitten hand.

As expected, his originally slender hand was now blackened and swollen, and the swelling was visibly spreading up his arm. Watching the man grit his teeth in pain, Li Ge felt no sympathy. If it hadn't been for Xiao Hei, she would have had her neck twisted. Even though Li Ge wasn't a heartless person, she had no intention of saving this man at the moment.

Ling Mo didn't expect the woman to offer him an antidote in this situation. He sucked on his uninjured hand, and the spirit mink was instantly flown into his palm. The same scene replayed, except this time, he was holding the spirit mink's neck.

Seeing Xiao Hei waving its small paws, Li Ge trembled and said, "Let go of Xiao Hei… or… or you'll die too."

Besides her master, Xiao Hei had been with her the longest. She had long considered it part of her family. Now, watching Xiao Hei on the verge of death, Li Ge's heart ached. She didn't doubt for a moment that this man would mercilessly kill Xiao Hei.

Ling Mo didn't look at Li Ge. A cold voice echoed, "Antidote."

"You let go of Xiao Hei, and I'll give you the antidote," Li Ge said, her eyes fixed on the spirit mink, her hands unconsciously clenching at her sides.

Ling Mo's grip didn't tighten. He seemed to be considering the credibility of Li Ge's words. After a moment, he flicked his wrist, and the spirit mink was thrown into Li Ge's arms.

As soon as it was free, the spirit mink trembled and burrowed into Li Ge's arms. It had never encountered such a dominant human. It had lived for so long and met many people, but it didn't know there were people with such a strong aura in this world.

Feeling Xiao Hei's fear, Li Ge empathized. After all, she had just experienced the same scene herself. She gently pulled Xiao Hei out, softly comforting it, "Xiao Hei, it's okay now."

Despite knowing Li Ge wouldn't lie to it, Xiao Hei's round eyes still glanced nervously in Ling Mo's direction, fearing he would suddenly break his promise and strangle its neck again.

"After I help you with the poison, can you promise me you won't kill Xiao Hei?" Li Ge continued to stroke Xiao Hei's back, asking the man whose eyes were clearly showing impatience.

Hearing Li Ge's condition, Ling Mo was surprised. He knew the selfishness of human nature, that people could betray anything for their own benefit. Looking at the sincerity in the woman's eyes, a ripple stirred in his heart. Watching her persistently staring at him, Ling Mo, who was usually decisive, silently nodded.

It was then that Li Ge had time to size up the man looking down at her. His clothes were tattered and torn, making it impossible to discern their original style. Except for sensitive areas, much of his skin was exposed, and despite his ragged appearance and numerous wounds, it didn't diminish his handsome face or his overwhelming aura.

Looking at the man's bare arms and the two rows of deep puncture wounds on his left arm, based on her years of knowledge of forest animals, Li Ge knew those were wolf bites. This reminded her of the proud wolf from last night, and her heart was filled with worry. This man was definitely not a kind soul. It seemed the wolf was doomed.

Li Ge stopped her movements and asked Ling Mo, "Where is the wolf from yesterday?"

"Do you regret not killing it yourself?" The man's sarcastic tone made Li Ge's hand tremble.

"You killed it?" Li Ge's heart sank.

Ling Mo didn't answer, but the cold aura around him grew stronger. Did she regret not killing the wolf herself? He had thought this woman was different, but now it seemed he had overestimated her.

And Ling Mo's silence, in Li Ge's eyes, was an admission of his actions. Her anger flared up, and tears welled up in her eyes, a sour feeling filling her heart. Thinking of the stubborn wolf, Li Ge choked back a sob and said, "Why did you kill it? It was just a wounded wolf, it wasn't a threat to you. How could you kill it?"

Li Ge's voice grew softer and softer, tears forming in her eyes, and she couldn't help but recall the deep green eyes filled with mockery.

Sensing the woman's low mood, the spirit mink jumped around in Li Ge's arms, its small paws tentatively scratching her palm, clumsily comforting its suddenly saddened owner.

Ling Mo's sarcastic smile cracked at the corner of his mouth, a dark glint flashing in his eyes. He lowered his head, looking at the woman lost in her own emotions. She wore clothes he had never seen before, different from the elaborate gowns of the noble ladies. It was a simple shirt and pants. The strange attire was simple, elegant, yet dignified on her.

And that slightly pale face, smudged with dust from last night's ordeal, didn't diminish her exquisite beauty.

He, Ling Mo, had seen countless women, many more beautiful than her, but none had left an impression on his heart. In his opinion, the beautiful appearances of those women only concealed their dirty and despicable natures. Therefore, he despised those pretentious noble ladies. However, this woman seemed different from the women he had previously imagined.

From her pleading for the spirit mink in her arms to her current reprimand, and those unpolluted eyes, Ling Mo even had a moment where he wanted to protect those eyes, not letting them be tainted by the dirty secular world.

Watching the tears welling up in Li Ge's eyes, Ling Mo blurted out before he was even aware of it, "I didn't kill it."
