Chapter 17: Chapter 18: The Wolf King Goes Berserk
"You… you agreed?" Several old men were so excited they didn't know what to do.
Looking at Ling Mo's still cold face, Li Ge smiled. "Mm, we'll stay. But whether we can help you overcome this calamity, we don't know."
"It doesn't matter, as long as you stay and get better. Quickly, go find Nong Yi and have him take the guests to rest." Wulun said incoherently, quickly ordering the clansmen who were peeking at the door.
Li Ge originally thought that in four days, Ling Mo's condition would be the same as every night. But she didn't expect that when she saw Ling Mo transform into a wolf again, Li Ge froze on the spot.
On the fourth day, the sunset hadn't completely faded, and the blood-red sunset shone on a circle of tree houses, like a draped shawl, beautiful but with a sense of bleak desolation.
Li Ge lay in Ling Mo's arms, closed her eyes, and her curled eyelashes trembled slightly. Her heart was slightly sinking. She had already prepared to accept everything that was coming, but when the time came, the bitterness in her heart was still with her.
Ling Mo gently smoothed her hair, his face as usual was calm, but the occasional tenderness in his eyes was something he didn't even notice.
Suddenly, Ling Mo's hand paused. He looked towards the door, and after a moment, there was a knock, knock, knock.
"Come in," Ling Mo said coldly.
Li Ge got up and looked over.
Wulun followed behind, along with the three elders from before, and Nong Yi.
As they approached, Li Ge noticed that Wulun was holding a fine five-colored glazed bowl, filled with blood-red liquid. And the elders behind him were carrying a steaming bowl, instantly filling the air with the smell of medicine.
"Guests, everything is ready. Now the sun is about to set, please drink these first."
Wulun finished speaking and handed the glazed bowl over. It was only when she was close to Ling Mo that Li Ge smelled the strong bloody smell in the bowl. She frowned and asked, "What is this?"
"This is a pill made from the blood of the previous wolf king, preserved by our clan for five hundred years, combined with the Luoshui, which is the wolf blood curse's favorite, and blood wolf grass. Drinking it together is a necessary step to lift the 'wolf blood curse.' And after drinking these two bowls, the guest will transform only when the moon reaches its zenith tonight." Wulun looked at the bowl held by the elder behind him and said.
Hearing this, Ling Mo directly took the bowls from the two men and drank them down in large gulps.
Wulun carefully observed Ling Mo for a while before cautiously asking, "How does the guest feel?"
Ling Mo raised his eyebrows and then said coldly, "It feels like there's fire burning in my blood, and my internal organs are itchy."
As soon as Ling Mo finished speaking, Wulun and the others visibly breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled, wrinkling his face. "That's right, that's how it feels. Guest, everything is ready now. Please come with us."
Ling Mo and Li Ge exchanged glances. Even though they had decided to help them, they hadn't asked about the method of lifting the curse. Now it seemed that it wasn't as simple as drinking medicine. The two didn't say anything and got up, following Wulun and the others out.
The few people passed through the neatly arranged wooden houses and along winding paths that the 'Dust' clansmen walked on. They crossed the clear spring where they drank water every day, and the ripples swayed with the wind, reflecting the slender figures of the few people.
After walking for nearly two hours, the moonlight tonight was indeed brighter than usual. The round disk hung in the night sky, casting down spots of silver gray. Finally, Wulun stopped and Ling Mo and the two found themselves standing on the edge of an open space. Looking around at the grass that was still steaming, they knew this place should have been cleared recently. The open space was square, and a funnel-shaped bronze container was placed at each of the four corners.
When Ling Mo saw the bronze container, his eyes flashed. He suddenly took something out of his pocket and handed it to Wulun.
"Guest, where did you get this?" When Wulun saw the small object, he stared in shock and asked.
"I picked it up in this forest."
"This… this… this is our clan's emblem. There is only one in the entire clan. We thought we would never see it again in our lifetime, but I didn't expect to find it in the guest's hands. It's truly a fate."
Ling Mo didn't have the same feeling as Wulun. This emblem was not far from where their clansmen lived, and there was no dust on it when they found it. This was enough to show that someone deliberately led him to find this thing. However, this didn't harm him.
"Alright, time is running out." One of the three elders interrupted Wulun's excitement.
Looking up, sure enough, the moon was already at its zenith. Wulun nodded and then bowed slightly and said, "Guests, please stand in the middle. We are about to begin."
When the four old men sat down at the positions corresponding to the four funnels, Li Ge looked at Ling Mo with worry. The little black spirit mink beside her chirped anxiously. Li Ge hugged Xiao Hei and softly said three words, "I'll wait for you."
Ling Mo's calm heart warmed. A few points of starlight flickered in his narrow phoenix eyes. He nodded and strode towards the middle of the open space.
Ling Mo stood firm and felt a more turbulent surge in his body than ever before. He slowly closed his eyes and breathed rhythmically, suppressing the increasingly heavy feeling of brutality.
Wulun and the others began to chant, and as they chanted, the black powder in the funnel-shaped containers in the four corners began to leak down, making a buzzing sound.
When the moon was at its fullest, Ling Mo's body, which had been relatively stable, began to tremble slightly. His eyes suddenly opened, and Li Ge's hand froze. She saw something she hadn't seen before.
In the past, whenever he transformed, Ling Mo's eyes would change from the original pale green to deep green, emitting a faint glow, as if they could completely absorb a person's soul. But this time, Li Ge saw a strange green with red light. It was more ferocious than the eyes of the wolf king on Wulun's painting. There was no trace of humanity in it, only a surging and rampant mood.
The voices of Wulun and the four people became louder, and the black powder in the funnels around them leaked faster.
Ah… Ling Mo, who hadn't made a sound during the previous transformations, finally couldn't bear it anymore. He raised his head high and howled towards the round disk.
The sound of bones growing and deforming covered the chanting of Wulun and the others. Li Ge's eyes turned red as she watched everything in front of her. She had already prepared to accept everything that was coming, but she hadn't expected it to be this scene. This wolf form was almost a level higher than before. Silver light shone on the wolf's body, not the gray fur of the past, but pure white wolf fur that dazzled the eye. The sharp teeth gleamed with a cold glow as he howled.
Awooo… awooo… The piercing howl shook the entire forest, and everyone could feel the rustling of the surrounding plants.
