Chapter 18: And I Lost Them
Dream's confidence did not fade when TommyInnit attacked the other Dream. In fact, it only grew. This was someone who needed to be protected. It was very likely that he would be sent back for this child, over anyone else. He didn't seem to be able to stay out of conflicts. In fact, he seemed to seek them out purposely. Like something inside him pushed him to fight.
After TommyInnit and Sapnap killed the other Dream, the fighting escalated even more. Soon, there was hardly a person around that wasn't fighting for one cause or other. TommyInnit and Sapnap were unstoppable, killing everyone in their way, like TNT tears through a landscape.
And the other Dream was going to put a stop to it. The Nightmare that Dream saw hovering over his head was not complete, but there were a few crucial pieces in place. And two of them were spinning around his finger.
TommyInnit's discs. His most precious possessions. He had spent hours upon hours getting them, and there was no way he was going to give them up so easily.
So, when the other Dream called him to meet up and discuss surrender, TommyInnit had no choice but to agree.
While the other Dream met with TommyInnit and talked about the discs, however, Sapnap snuck around behind the other Dream's back and searched out one of the discs. Dream saw him somehow, looking through stone and dirt. He didn't truly understand what his body could do after he had been...
After...
He had been...
Fused?
Dream physically shook his head, and the motion helped him to refocus on the present. Whatever that meant, he would deal with it later.
He glanced over at Sapnap, and saw him dashing past the other Dream, and he could imagine the look of surprise on the other Dream's face behind his mask as Sapnap ran past clutching the disc. Sapnap must have joined TommyInnit because he had been TommyInnit's ally since they had fought, and killed, Dream, along with almost everyone else.
Sapnap passed TommyInnit the disc as they were running, and TommyInnit darted off, like an eel put in water, straight to his own home. Dream followed above him, gliding smoothly through the air, somehow instinctively matching TommyInnit's speed. He quickly climbed down to his mine, then hid the disc in a chest underneath some granite.
Then, he ran to another part of his mine, as the other Dream followed him, and pretended to be hiding the disc there. When the other Dream attacked him, he was able to divert his attention from the disc's true hiding place.
TommyInnit fought the other Dream as best he could, but he had no chance. All he could do was escape. And escape he did. TommyInnit met back up with Sapnap, and they talked about ways to take care of the other Dream. They knew that the disc must be in the other Dream's inventory, and they needed to kill him to get it. Dream hovered above TommyInnit, listening in to their discussion. Clearly, neither of them could think of the best way to do it. The other Dream was a good fighter, and they knew it.
They both decided that they needed at least a third ally. If they were to have any chance at taking the other Dream down, they would want more people. And fortunately, TommyInnit had just the man in mind.
One who had long been friends with TommyInnit, who was willing to help with whatever he needed.
His name was Tubbo.
