Beast, Jean, and Storm gathered in Xavier's office, the room heavy with tension as they played the footage of Aiden's training session. The screen displayed the boy's remarkable abilities: his mastery of wind magic, his sudden and startling transformation into using iron-based powers, and most importantly, the moment he touched Rogue without any adverse effects.
The video froze on that moment, and Xavier leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled as he absorbed the information. "No mutant that we've tested has ever survived unscathed after physical contact with Rogue. Not even Logan," Xavier said gravely. "Yet Aiden… he was completely unaffected."
Storm crossed her arms, her brow furrowed in thought. "And what's more, he barely reacted to it. It's as if he didn't even notice what he had done until afterward."
Jean, visibly frustrated, chimed in, "I believe he's hiding something. He mocks us, Charles. He told me his powers are meant to kill dragons. Dragons! Isn't that absurd? A blatant lie to throw us off."
Beast interjected calmly, "I don't think he's lying, Jean. I believe he's simply not ready to reveal the truth about his abilities. He may be hiding out of fear or uncertainty, as many of us did when we were younger." His voice softened, as if recalling his own struggles as a child.
"That's a possibility," Xavier conceded, "but I'm not convinced it's the entire picture. Aiden has shown exceptional intelligence and proficiency in using his powers, far beyond what's typical for his age. These are not the actions of a scared child fumbling to control his abilities. He has a purpose, a drive… and I fear he will only grow stronger."
Storm frowned, confused. "Why is that something to fear, Charles? Shouldn't we encourage his growth? The stronger he is, the more good he can do. Isn't that what we strive for? To protect people? To be better at our jobs?"
Xavier regarded her with a grave expression. "That's true, Ororo, but strength without direction is dangerous. And the question remains: is Aiden on board with our mission? Does he share our vision to protect and serve? Or is his strength something he'll use for his own purposes?"
Beast adjusted his glasses thoughtfully. "Then it's our duty to guide him, to instill the values of heroism and selflessness in his heart. To show him the correct path. Isn't that what we do here?"
Jean and Storm nodded in agreement, but Xavier's expression darkened. "Yes… that is our goal. But what if he refuses to walk that path? Aiden is an enigma, and his abilities—whatever they truly are—could make him a major threat to the world if he chooses to misuse them."
The room fell silent at Xavier's ominous words. While the others focused on their commitment to mentor the boy, Xavier's mind wrestled with the potential dangers Aiden might bring—not just to their school, but to the fragile balance of power in the world.
....
The training session had ended, leaving the young X-Men to mingle and socialize in the training room. Aiden, who had already established a solid bond with Bobby, Kitty, and Jubilation, found his friend group unexpectedly expanding. Piotr, also known as Colossus, and Noriko, who went by Surge, had eagerly joined the conversation, their admiration for him evident.
"You were incredible out there, Aiden!" Noriko exclaimed, her electric-blue hair bouncing as she gestured enthusiastically. "You've got to show me more of your moves!"
"Yes, indeed!" Piotr agreed with a hearty laugh, his Russian accent thick but warm. "Even I haven't reached the level you displayed, and I've been training here much longer. Excellent work!"
Aiden gave them a small, polite smile. "Thanks, you two. But I'm not really in the mood to show off more right now. Feels like a waste, you know?"
It wasn't just an excuse—his powers were fueled by stored magical energy, and he wasn't inclined to burn through it unnecessarily. Besides, his current interests lay elsewhere, specifically with the stalker he had noticed earlier. Since the end of his fight, he'd felt a pair of eyes on him, unrelenting and intense.
"I'll be back in a second, guys," Aiden said, his tone casual as he turned to leave. "Gotta check on something."
Without waiting for a response, Aiden made his way toward the hallway, pretending to head to the bathroom. Instead, he veered into a quiet corner where he knew his observer had been hiding. Sure enough, the girl was still lingering, scanning the area with increasing confusion after losing sight of him.
"Looking for someone?" Aiden's voice cut through the silence like a blade.
The girl jumped, startled, and whirled around. It was Rogue. Her face turned crimson as she stammered, "Uh… no, I was just… um…"
"Staring at me?" Aiden asked, tilting his head, his tone teasing but not unkind.
"I-I wasn't! I mean… I was just… curious, is all," Rogue stammered, struggling to form a coherent sentence. "Since… you know…"
"Curious about how I was able to touch you?" Aiden finished for her, raising an eyebrow. "Honestly, me too. I played it cool, but deep down, I really thought I'd die. Glad that didn't happen, huh?"
Rogue looked away, her shoulders sinking as she muttered, "I see…"
Noticing her disappointment, Aiden softened his tone. "Hey, sorry if that came off a little harsh." He extended his hand toward her, his expression sincere. "Let's start over. I'm Aiden. Aiden Blake. And you?"
Rogue froze, staring at his outstretched hand as if it were a venomous snake. Her breathing quickened, and her hands trembled, but Aiden remained patient. "Take it," he urged. "Nothing will happen if you do. You've got to take the first step."
With a deep breath, Rogue nodded, closing her eyes tightly as she cautiously placed her hand in his. Her heart raced as she waited for the familiar surge of pain, the unbearable sensation of life being drained from another person. But nothing happened. Slowly, she opened her eyes, and all she saw was Aiden's warm smile.
"Well?" he asked gently.
"I… I'm Rogue. My real name's Anna. Anna Marie," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Nice to meet you, Anna," Aiden replied, his genuine smile making her cheeks flush.
The weight of the moment hit her like a tidal wave. It had been three long years since she'd been able to touch another person without the barrier of Beast's specially crafted gloves. Three years without the simple, human comfort of a hug—not from her parents, her friends, or her mentors. And now, here she was, touching Aiden like any other normal person. It was overwhelming.
Without thinking, Anna threw herself into Aiden's arms, wrapping him in a tight hug as she began to sob uncontrollably. "Thank you," she whispered between hiccups. "Thank you so much…"
Caught off guard but understanding, Aiden gently patted her back. "It's okay," he said softly. "Let it all out."
As he held the crying girl in his arms, Aiden felt a deep sense of pride bloom within him. This moment, this raw connection, was unlike anything he'd experienced before. Not even saving people at the park had felt this meaningful. For the first time, he truly understood the impact of being a hero—not just in grand gestures, but in small, deeply personal moments like this.
