Douluo: Soul-Breaking spear

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Consuming the Piercing Autumn Dew

Chapter 85: Consuming the Piercing Autumn Dew

During the following days, Yang Zhentian and Yang Potian stopped searching for soul beasts and instead took up temporary residence in an abandoned beast's den. To ensure that his son wouldn't be disturbed, Zhentian took multiple precautions around their hideout.

Potian spent this time completely focused on cultivating his soul power and adapting his body to the effects of the Strange Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum. The herb's primary effects were to promote the flow of energy through his limbs and meridians, potentially bestowing an indestructible body.

Potian increased his soul power circulation to fully absorb the herb's essence. Over time, his soul power circulated faster, making his muscles and skin considerably stronger. His limbs had grown visibly more muscular, resembling the results of long-term training. It seemed as though certain critical points in his body were opening up, aligning with what he understood as the Eight Extraordinary Meridians.

Whether in martial arts or cultivation, unblocked Extraordinary Meridians significantly increase efficiency and power. By the sixteenth day, Potian felt that he had reached a limit with his body's current capacity. The effects of the herb had fully permeated him, greatly enhancing his innate physical qualities. Tests conducted by his father showed that Potian's body could now withstand pressure equivalent to a peak-level Soul King, indicating that despite his current level of 40, his body's endurance was already around the level of a rank 60 or even higher soul master.

Potian then took out a seemingly simple herb. Its stem was deep green, but at the center of its leaves were three pristine white ones, each adorned with droplets that resembled fresh dew. This herb was the famed Piercing Autumn Dew, which, according to the original text, could grant "fiery golden eyes" capable of seeing through all things.

The herb's properties enhance spiritual power, specifically as it relates to the eyes, as eyes are often called "windows to the soul." Many spirit masters, especially those with mental abilities, rely on their eyes to amplify their spiritual power. In the world of Douluo, there are no known methods to strengthen spiritual power outside of head soul bones or the soul rings of spiritual-type soul beasts, making the Piercing Autumn Dew particularly valuable.

Potian gently placed the center of the herb in his mouth, drawing out the few crystal-clear droplets it contained. As the dew left the leaves, the herb in his hand withered completely, drained of its essence.

The moment the dew entered his mouth, Potian felt a profound change throughout his body, especially concentrated around his head and eyes. His mind entered a tranquil state, and his thoughts flowed with unparalleled clarity. The entire experience lasted about three hours.

When Potian opened his eyes, they shone with a silvery sheen. Even his irises and the skin around his eyes glimmered with a metallic luster. Everything around him appeared startlingly vivid, down to the smallest fluctuations of soul power in the air. He could see intricate details on every creature, as if he could observe the very essence of each thing around him.

Potian looked within and saw that his spirit projection, the massive figure holding the Soul Breaker Spear, had also changed. Its eyes were now pure silver, although the body retained only slight silver traces.

"This might be more complicated than I thought," Potian thought. "My martial soul's second awakening is only partially complete, limited to my eyes. A full awakening might be much harder, but thankfully, I don't seem to have developed any deformities in my martial soul or body."

Examining his martial soul closely, he noticed that while his body and eyes had become slightly mismatched in intensity, his limbs and torso had grown sturdier, likely thanks to the Strange Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum. Without it, the gap between his eyes and body might have been even more drastic.

Zhentian, noticing that Potian had finished absorbing the herb, breathed a sigh of relief. Simultaneously absorbing two celestial herbs was an unpredictable endeavor.

"Potian, how are you feeling now?"

"Father, I feel incredible. Everything seems sharper, clearer. My thought process and sensitivity to soul power are greatly enhanced. Do you know of any way to gauge my spiritual power's strength?"

Zhentian shook his head. "As I'm not a spirit-type master, I can't measure it accurately. But I sensed that your spiritual power is now likely above that of a Soul King."

"Then, if I could direct an attack at you with my spiritual power, would you be able to evaluate its strength?"

"I can give it a try, but keep in mind that spiritual attacks are very complex. Any slight misstep could easily cause you harm instead."

Zhentian silently sighed. My son barely finished absorbing the Piercing Autumn Dew, and he's already thinking of using it to attack me. Is he still holding a grudge about the money I took from him last time?

After a bit of discussion, they decided that Potian would try a mental attack, and Zhentian would gauge its effect.

"Father, are you ready?"

Zhentian chuckled. "Of course. A Soul King-level attack is hardly a threat. I'm a high-level Soul Douluo, after all."

Under normal circumstances, even after consuming the Piercing Autumn Dew, one couldn't immediately use their spiritual power for attacks. But Potian was an exception; he had previously absorbed the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass, giving him an extraordinary affinity for metallic and sword-type energies.

Potian closed his eyes and gathered his mental focus, channeling it until his entire body felt like a Soul Breaker Spear, reaching a seamless state of unity with the weapon.

Then, in one swift movement, he opened his eyes, releasing two rays of spear-like light from them. Unlike the usual spear energy of the Soul Breaker, these rays seemed intangible, a pure manifestation of his spiritual power in the form of spear energy.

Zhentian was initially taken aback. But as the beams approached him, they collided with an invisible barrier surrounding him, as if they'd struck a massive, immovable wall. Unable to break through, the rays gradually dissipated into thin air.

It was as though nothing had happened—both the attack and the defense were entirely without form. Only higher-level soul masters might have been able to perceive the true exchange.
