Chapter 120: Chapter 119: Nearing the Star Dou Forest — Lodging and Dining

The moment Su Ming finished speaking, Xiao Wu chimed in enthusiastically, "Exactly! Zhuqing is a nimble agility-type Spirit Master with solid strength. She's perfect for scouting ahead. Leaving her at the back makes no sense."

"My brother will be right behind her; he won't let anything happen to her. Besides, having Dai Mubai and Tang San bring up the rear is more than enough."

Zhao Wuji stood aside, silently observing. He didn't involve himself in their discussion since it was a decision they needed to make on their own. It was also a good opportunity to build teamwork and synergy.

Hearing Xiao Wu's words, Zhu Zhuqing didn't say anything. She simply moved from the back of the group to the front.

With Dai Mubai deciding the direction, the group started jogging in that direction, while Zhao Wuji casually walked a bit apart from them, keeping his distance from the team.

Not long after they set off, Su Ming activated his fourth spirit ability. A faint green glow enveloped Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong, enhancing their stamina and vitality.

Seeing this, Ma Hongjun couldn't help but grumble, "Su Ming, why are you only assisting those three? Look at me! I'm out of shape—can't you give me a hand too?"

Before Su Ming could respond, Xiao Wu glared at Ma Hongjun. "Fatty, are you looking for a fight? If you're tired, eat Oscar's sausages. You've eaten them before, haven't you? Besides, it's perfect for losing some weight!"

With Xiao Wu stepping in, Su Ming didn't bother saying more. He had no intention of helping anyway.

Thus, the group continued on their journey, trekking from morning until evening. Whenever the three girls were hungry, they ate the dry rations they'd brought. Despite the lack of flavor, they refused to touch Oscar's sausages.

The rest of the group, however, had no such qualms. Oscar's sausages were savory and filling, far better than their bland dry rations.

Even Dai Mubai and Tang San, who had decent stamina, began to feel the strain after hours of traveling. Thankfully, Oscar's sausages helped them recover quickly.

As for Su Ming, he hardly ate any of Oscar's sausages. His current physical condition was leagues ahead of the others. With a fourth spirit ring from a 50,000-year-old spirit beast and daily practice of a Spirit Power Tempering Technique, his body could likely withstand the strain of spirit rings from 60,000- to 70,000-year-old beasts.

In fact, his current physique was comparable to Zhao Wuji's. In a physical fight without spirit power enhancement, they'd likely be evenly matched. However, Su Ming preferred ranged attacks over close combat—it was less exhausting and far more efficient.

As for Xiao Wu, Su Ming estimated that her body was already capable of supporting a 10,000-year spirit ring for her fourth ring. Her growth was impressive.

By the time night fell, they were close to the Star Dou Forest. However, it was already late, and Zhao Wuji decided they should rest in a nearby town to recuperate and replenish their supplies.

Pointing to a modest-looking two-story inn, Zhao Wuji said, "We'll stay here tonight. Rest up and prepare for tomorrow. Everyone will cover their own lodging and meals."

The inn had a simple setup: a lobby on the first floor and rooms on the second. Zhao Wuji booked a room for himself and went upstairs immediately, his personal finances being far from robust.

The students, on the other hand, received monthly stipends from the Spirit Hall, which covered their expenses comfortably. Although Su Ming no longer qualified for a stipend as a Spirit Elder, he had no shortage of funds.

After some discussion, Dai Mubai, Tang San, and Oscar decided to share a three-person room, while Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Xiao Wu shared another. Su Ming opted for his own room—he wasn't short on money and had no interest in sharing, given the secrets he needed to guard during his cultivation.

Initially, Su Ming considered booking individual rooms for the three girls, but they insisted on staying together. Seeing their camaraderie, Su Ming couldn't help but reflect on how different their relationships were compared to the original story.

In the original timeline, Ning Rongrong had been ostracized from the group at this stage due to her arrogance and spoiled nature. It wasn't until after the Star Dou Forest expedition that she began to integrate with the team. But now, the three girls got along like sisters.

"Let's grab some proper food before heading upstairs," Ma Hongjun grumbled. "I've been eating sausages all day. No matter how tasty they are, my stomach can't take any more."

Su Ming shrugged. "You all go ahead and order. I'll check out the rooms first."

This was, of course, just an excuse. Su Ming had no intention of sticking around for the impending conflict with the teachers from Canghui Academy. He figured he'd let them have their scuffle, at least until Zhao Wuji came downstairs to intervene.

Besides, Su Ming was worried he might end up siding with the other group. Ma Hongjun's antics, combined with his rat-like features, were just too irritating. The animated version had been far too kind in its portrayal.

Seeing through Su Ming's intentions, Xiao Wu and the other girls quickly said, "We'll go upstairs with Su Ming to check the rooms first. You guys can order, and we'll join you later."

With that, Xiao Wu dragged Su Ming upstairs, the girls following behind.

Dai Mubai and the others didn't mind and turned their attention to the menu. Tang San asked, "Should we invite Teacher Zhao to join us?"

Dai Mubai shook his head. "No need. The dean made it clear that while teachers won't pay for our expenses, they also won't accept any handouts from us."

Ma Hongjun grinned mischievously. "Enough talk! Let's order some food. Oh, and Boss Dai, you're treating!"

Dai Mubai glared at him. "Why should I? You eat the most! I've treated you plenty of times already."

Laughing, Ma Hongjun replied, "Well, you're the boss, aren't you? Besides, your stipend is ten times mine. My measly allowance barely covers my trips to… you know."

Dai Mubai sighed, shaking his head. Thankfully, Su Ming and the girls were upstairs. Otherwise, Ma Hongjun would've surely angered them again.

Reluctantly, he said, "Fine, I'll treat this time. Consider it a welcome meal for Tang San and the others."

Tang San and Oscar exchanged a glance but said nothing. It was just a meal, after all. With plenty of opportunities ahead to treat each other, there was no need to fuss.
